Just In Case You Didn’T Know .....
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
Tamar (not to mention her devoted, dotty mum) says thank you for all the well wishes. She has been duly kissed and cuddles. I have so many lovely photographs of her and the others, thanks to Tdierikx. She has bounced back and, so far, doesn’t have the “tongue hanging out” look, but she is doing a lot of licking which I suppose is to do with the strangeness/discomfort. She looks a bit different because her fangs used to poke out. She ate normally last night and through the day had (dare I say it in case my cruelty is reported) a treat ........ roo jerky. In all seriousness, I don’t buy dog treats. Their treats are little piece of dried liver or roo jerky or chicken jerky. And, of course, from time to time bits of my vegemite toast. So long as it isn’t fat ridden, Danny gets whatever his little heart (and taste buds) wants. But I will definitely be looking in the supermarket shelves for froghurt. Icecream is a rarity simply because I am cannot be trusted and I am already too fat. -

They bring me to a sense of wonderment daily. Not all mine like yoghurt. Tamar thinks it is poison, LOL. -

Oh poor Arkey. What a lot of metal in a tiny leg. Heal well, Arkey. -

Yes   Everything is suspect - except the icecream. She hoed into that with barely an initial sniff let alone a suspicious one. Mmmmmmmm - yummy! I’ll look for those. -

Give it up, mate. You’ve said your lot. Don’t continue to spoil a fun thread paying tribute generally to the amazing creatures that dogs are and specifically to Tamar, a shy little thing who came through a big op safely and well. And for those who appreciate what this thread is all about, this is why I was amazed that Tamar wolfed down her brekkie this morning. She eats just to stay alive. This is a pic from a few years ago, but she is still the same. She will sit in front of a meal for ages and then walk away. -

That photo is from a while ago :) :) She has been a bit subdued today, but happily went for a walk this morning. She is a tiny thing - about 3.5kilos. -

:kissbetter: Read it again and you will see that I gave it to her as a treat and because of her dental. -
Yesterday my puppy, Tamar, went to the vets to have a dental. Now Tamar isn’t exactly a puppy as she is 12 years of age, but I call her my puppy because she is my only dog (apart from my first two from breeders) who was a puppy when I adopted her 11 and a half years ago  . She still looks like a puppy too. Poor girl drew the short straw and has always had dreadful teeth (Maltese x Shih Tsu) and eventually she had only her four canines and one or two at the back. Yesterday’s dental ended up with her losing those as well. So last night, I gave her couple of smalls bowls of icecream to cool down any pain and to give her a treat in any case. This morning, she ate a normal meal - wolfed it down in fact which in itself is a bit of coup but after having huge rotten teeth removed less than 24 hours ago is pretty impressive, I think. I well remember many years ago adopting a very elderly dog from a pound who had to have all his teeth removed. That afternoon, he was happily gumming chicken necks in the back yard. Amazing animals? I think so

So exciting. -
No advice, Isabel. I just wanted to add my sympathies. Huge burden of loss for you. I am sure when the time comes, you will find the strength necessary and I hope you are given a choice as to where your farewells are said. Sometimes it is taken out of our hands, though.

Little Red Man’S Roller Coaster Journey:
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in Palliative Care Forum
Funny old day, today . Was awakened at about 6.30am being my poor boy being violently ill. Put my elbow in it as I sat up to hold him . As he’d missed the protector I put under him at night, all the bedclothes needed washing, so decided it was pointless to go back to bed. Nice overcast day to get things done ..... after the clean up. Dumped all the soiled bedding on the deck to scrape off before putting into the washing machine and made sure Danny was comfortable. He just went back to sleep leaving me to it. (Came out later to find him munching !!) Threw on some clothes, quick coffee and Bunter and Tamar for a walk before taking them to the vet: Tamar for dental and Bunter for laser treatment. Back home and start of Danny’s medication regime. He is fine after his throw up, but very tired. So only two dogs until later this evening. Feels very strange. Oh - washing machine working overtime LOL. -
Scottie & Anxiety

Oh! How I can relate. I’ve been retired for some years now and I have drifted into terribly bad habits, like reading until 2am, etc etc. Sometimes, even through the night. Good luck with your new regime. You’ll do it  -
I’m loving reading these responses. Many years ago, a couple down the road from me in Summer Hill had a lovely boy. They weren’t very responsible owners and would go away for weekends leaving him to fend for himself. Late one night driving home, I saw a Keeshund wandering around the Summer Hill shopping centre car park. I drove in, opened my back door and in he hopped. He was the boy owned by the people down the road (he had something about one of his ears, I think - forgotten the details now) and so I kept him with my littlies with absolutely no problems until they came home. I do have a photograph, but stored on CD which I need to have transferred to a plug in thingy.

There are a couple living around here that I see being walked. One family has obviously had a couple of them over the years. They always seem pretty laid back when a couple of my pack have been doing their reactive stuff .

Scottie & Anxiety

This is always a worry. Would it be possible to gradually introduce some logs/bricks/something underneath the hedge that would not be seen but would be a barrier? -

When you posted the other day that she was carrying only two puppies but they were biggies, I started thinking about all the things that might make for bigger and healthier puppies. Just a lay person’s views of course and could be total rubbish. But look at the life Neko and her near forebears have led: the best of everything in terms of nutrition, veterinarian care, love, interesting lives, lots of fun and exercise, etc etc. Surely this must lead to bigger and better babies. It’s happened with humans - why not dogs, I wonder? -
What a truly wonderful keepsake for them, persephone. You are such an amazing photographer.

Don’t blame you. I’d be worried sick even if the babes were littlies. Such a lot for these little bodies to go through. Where is Marcus? Is he on hand? AS soon as she goes into labour I will ring him but Marcus isn't anymore experienced than I am so I'll also ring the vet. I was thinking more of a shoulder to lean on. I mean, I would be happy to lean on him while you are other wise engaged :D :D :D -

I expect this to be one of the most anticipated births in the history of DOL   (With that of a baby pineapple being a close second :lollipop: ) -
Oh, a lovely lovely Schippy. Wonderful photos recording such happy days.

Such a worry. I hope you have some answers soon and are able to guide Eva back to health.
