Little Red Man’S Roller Coaster Journey:
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in Palliative Care Forum
Thanks Stellnme. Yes, their fragility is sometimes very difficult to reconcile with how they were even just a couple of years previously. The vet is confident that Danny has plenty of life in him yet, but we have to take more bloods tomorrow morning as their machine went into fail mode :( . -
These sorts of trainers should be banished. I imagine he is okay with the basics, but all this leader and dominance business has caused so much harm to dogs and owners. So called Dr Cam by any chance?

Thank you, JayGee and Boronia. I am very emotional today as I have an appointment with the vet as he wants to run some more tests. I was so thrilled that Danny ate all his BARF, but last night he brought it all up at about 2am with those great heaving throws that are exhausting for anyone let alone a little old 17 year old. But this morning, apart from going straight to a bed in the lounge instead of prowling around the house, he is bright and “uptailed” and came up his ramp without any problems and straight into the house. As I’ve said before, Boronia, I love your sig, but it took me a while to realise you didn’t have six dogs   JayGee, I used to love posting the stories of my littlies and rescued ones, but it is a long time since I rescued and the most exciting thing that we do now is waddle around the block a couple of times a day. I have had had a couple of fosters, but the rescuer told me I wasn’t to post about them on DOL . Anyway, into the shower to get ready to take Danny to see Angus. Luckily none of my dogs worry about vet visits which says something good about the vets, I think. -

Thanks Westiemum. I know your loss is still raw. Your comments mean a lot to me and Danny will get lots of extra kisses and cuddles tonight. -

Go Benny  I think we need a pic. I noticed that I started this thread in November last year, so Danny keeps on surprising me too. I have to remind myself that he is very old and, like all oldies, has good days and bad days. I re-read all the comments in this thread and there seems to be concern that I “do the right thing” by Danny. There is no way in the world, I would allow an animal of mine to suffer because of MY feelings. In every action and every thought, my prime and only concern is for the welfare and happiness of my dogs. -

Thank you all. I had to collect some meds today, so I decided to see if BARF would tempt him. And, as usual, when I arrived home, although he was still asleep in the place where he’d been when I left, when he stirred, his lovely tail started wagging. Papillon Kisses, many years ago, I had a little Pap x Chihuahua who was 16 when he died. Still think of him every day. -
Hopefully this is the last setback and only improvement and complete healing from now on.

My dearest little boy is tottering on. I am very worried today, though. He has been losing weight steadily and not eating very well. Today he is not very well, but we do have an appointment with the vet tomorrow. His tail still wags madly when I return home from walking the other dogs and in the mornings, when he is ready to get up (off the bed) he barks and I go running. He will be standing there, tail wagging madly waiting for me to carry him downstairs. He has a little wander around the back yard and, when he is ready, he can still come up the ramp unaided. I often find myself in tears these days, wondering how on earth I am going to cope when he is gone. He has been with me now for over 14 years ....... a long time. -

My first close up encounters with Rotties was as a volunteer dog walker at a small Sydney pound. Everyone should have that experience. Such beautiful dogs .... I would love one when all my littlies have gone to God, but I will be too old Will become a foster carer, though. :) :) -
Deepest condolences, ricey. I enjoyed reading about Hobbes over the years and your love for him. He will be much missed and, as you say, a huge hole in your heart. Run free, Hobbes - special boy

Idea That.may Help With Rescues
Loving my Oldies replied to Isabel964's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
So glad you have added Lucy to your family and she has turned out so well.... a good match by the sounds of it. I’ve been out of rescue too long to comment on your idea, but the first thing that popped into my head is that people looking for a dog or people looking to rehome a dog don’t need even more places to look. On the other hand, I know if someone starts a thread on DOL looking for a dog for themselves or for someone else, they get lots of suggestions, so that might shoot my thought down in flames. :D :D If someone goes through a reputable rescue organisation that organisation will move heaven and earth to try to ensure the match of dog and person/family is the right one. -
Such a lovely family. Thank you for sharing and kudos for rescuing them.

I sure am SG. They are so amazing, really happy with how they are maturing and grasping life so far. 2 puppies left last night, 7 still here, with 5 going over the next week or so OMG!! You will be wandering around feeling lost. On the other hand, you know what an awesome time you have had with them and the love you have put into their introduction to the world and, hopefully, take enormous pride in that. -
