Please don’t be desperate. You will find your little love. If you are applying on line can you add that you are more than happy for/would expect a local rescue group to come and do a house check? Have you had a dog in the past? If you have had, perhaps the vet could write a reference? ETA: I haven’t found any difference between males and females when it comes to weeing in the house before they are used to the place and are taught to go outside. .

Feather is not ready to leave me just yet
Loving my Oldies replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
That is not being spoilt; that is being loved and understood. -
It sounds as though you are really looking at all possibilities, but can I suggest (not implying that you aren’t, but just reinforcing) that you actually visit pounds. Some pounds are wonderfully well run and have their listings right up to the minute, but some are incredibly lax and poorly run ..... and everything in between. How many people ring up pounds when their dogs are lost only to be told, “Nope nothing like that here,” only to find when they do visit that their dog is there. And worse, the dog has been euthanised.

Gosh, I am in tears reading that K. She sure isn’t ready to leave you yet, but being such a great age, she just took a long time to recover from the overheating. Such a darling girl, such a treasure. -
I’ve just had a thought. Chihuahua Rescue Queensland has a gorgeous little fluffy dog called Bear. They are looking for a home for him without other dogs because his past has not been good. Although they say he is not available for interstate adoption, I am sure they have contacts in Victoria who could do the home checks for them, etc etc. Bear is a Pomeranian mix and looks totally gorgeous. http://www.chihuahuarescueqld.com.au/adopt/dogs-for-adoption/

FOUND! Tibbie, Jaffa, just run off in Woden/Canberra
Loving my Oldies replied to mita's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thank god. Any dog, but particularly little dogs and freeways . . . . makes me feel sick in the stomach. Such a relief. -
Agreed - just beautiful. I think that “enabler” deserves a spank.

Deepest condolences, Scottsmum. You were both blessed with each other, so loved and cared for. Even when it could not be more obvious that the time has come to send our dogs to the “best sleep they’ll ever have” it is just so difficult and heartbreaking. Take care of yourself at this sad and bereft time. Scottie was a great little dog and could not have had a better mum.

I love that one too, Boronia.

How on earth did this thread get resurrected after 7 years? LOL. I have always had “toy” breeds and I certainly don’t look at them lying around and think my house is full of wolves. HOWEVER ......(LOL), my first dogs were two little Maltese and nothing made me more amazed (and amused) to see my 2 kilogram female Maltese tip her head back, snout to the heavens and howl when I listened to Opera.

Best wishes for a successful search. You might find exactly the right fit for your family and vice versa at your local pound or rescue group. I don’t know about St Bernards, but all the others have breed specific rescue groups and you will find these by a simple google search. Good luck.

1. I absolutely and 100% support rescue groups having such a policy. 2. You absolutely should not be visiting your dog once he has been rehomed. You have to accept the fact that you can’t look after him for whatever reason and let go. What would be cruel is going to visit him. Stop thinking of how YOU feel: think of the dog and the new owners.

Deepest sympathies, Ernie’s Mum. . Such a difficult, bereft and sad time for you. Ernie sounded like a real character: one who was loved and loved equally. These doggies of ours leave such an enormous hole in our hearts when it is their time to go. Take care
