I had first hand experience of a mix up in “labelling” from a pound and was alerted to it by a vigilant DOLer. Not Blacktown, but Sydney Dogs and Cats Home. A little dog had gone to a rescue group and I ended up fostering. SDCH labelled the dog as adopted which, I think, is really poor administration because it stops people from looking at the dog further. When this was pointed out to SDCH, they did amend. This thread was started a while ago and I can’t imagine a Tibbie would last long at a pound or in rescue before being adopted, but it is still worth pursuing @mita.

I recently adopted a little Pomeranian of nearly 15 from a pound. As he was limping quite badly (left front leg) and often just holding it up, I asked my vet to take a look at it. She said there is thickening evidence of arthritis and he is on a series of four Zydax injections. He is on daily Meloxicam and Tramadol if limping is bad. He has had two Zydaz injections and with those and the other two medications, he doesn’t seem to have improved in the slightest. I will be talking to my vet again tomorrow when she is back on duty, but in the meantime, I wondered about your comment. Many thanks. -

Just goes to show the power (and deliberately misleading) of a headline LOL. -

Oh my. The imagination and love some people have is just .... well amazing. Beautiful story. -
I have always been told nil food after midnight, but water is fine.

Sitting at the computer, pretty late and suddenly remembered I had the sprinkler on in the front garden . I generally put the alarm on so as not to forget but now I am even forgetting to do that. Anyway, Mezza came trotting after me, so I grabbed a lead, torch and a plastic bag and took him for a walk, just around the block. He loved it. I glanced behind me at one stage and there were two men walking a very small greyhound. She didn’t have a green collar, but I gave it a chance and she and Mezza had great little sniffies. Even though she was small he had to stretch his nose up to sniff her nether regions. Her tail was going a million miles an hour and she was so soft. Beautiful little dog from Greyhound Rescue . Note to self: When next to you take Mezza on late night walks take more than one baggie.

Mezza is doing really well and I was overjoyed last night when he trotted into the lounge and presented me with a tiny tennis ball !!! When he first arrived, I tried him with a few toys and balls, but no reaction at all. So I am glad he told me how he likes to play. He now sleeps all night through on the bed and loves a cuddle; Jeune and Tamar don't like being cuddled, just belly and ear scratches please. And Bunter rarely stays on the bed. So all good in Mooch City.

Generally they are all the same sort of bowl . I could not even hazard a guess as to what is going on in that brain of hers. I now have to sometimes shut her in the room where Bunter has had his meal. She will lick out the remains (generally nothing) of his bowl, I’ll tip her food into his bowl and most of the time she happily eats. So long as she eats, though.

I may be wrong, it has been known ....... but I think Nella is one happy little doggy -
Wow! I looked at this thread because I didn’t have a clue what “Long Quicks” meant. I thought it must have been some sort of agility action I have dogs (toy breeds) with really long nails and so difficult to clip them without drawing blood. Will definitely look more closely (have bookmarked the link thank you @Papillon Kisses)

I recall seeing a documentary set in [forgotten but in the snow covered climes]. There was a shot where you’d think there was nothing but a few tents and suddenly all the various “lumps” in the ground came alive as the Huskies stood up, shaking off the snow in which they’d buried themselves. It was such a great thing to see. -
Luckily I don’t have any sharing water bowls problems, but I do have one dog who rarely eats out of her own bowl. Despite being fed exactly the same, she waits until Tamar has finished and then (only sometimes) will finish Tamar’s. The other two, Bunter and Mezza, are shut in separate rooms because they would eat until they burst, so when Tamar and Jeune are let in from the deck, Jeune prowls around finishing up any leftovers. I regularly tip her untouched meal into one of the other bowls and she will eat it. Drives me INSANE !!!

Wow!! Wonder how he got that? Quick healing from now on . I would be inclined to snip away all that hair so no hairs get caught up as the wound closes.

Probably a mix between a lemur and a snow leopard.

Yes, I’ve been wondering too. Hope all is well and injury was easily taken care of and will heal very very quickly.

Even though we know this, it is still so damned hard and gut wrenching to have to make the decision. Deepest sympathies, WoofnHoof. Lulu was a beautiful girl and her passing will leave a huge hole in your heart and soul.

Yep. Hard to feel sorry for those who do DNA tests. So much publicity that shows they are ridiculous.

LOL. It is a funny business when a notification about a dog pops up in FB or other forums you might follow. You’ll see plenty and then, bang, something happens. Bit like how Mezza is now part of our family It can be not as easy or different with bigger dogs, but I have had a few here over the years. Telling you this just because he was a Shar Pei, but one I well recall was a gorgeous black Shar Pei called Kobe who stayed overnight and I took him to the airport the following day ( @westiemum might remember as she was the traveller who put Kobe on her airline ticket ). Here I was with a houseful of little dogs, but Kobe was a delight. I did have photos but can’t find them . You are going to be very busy with volunteering at the Commonwealth Games in a couple of months; lots of things to consider as you are doing.

Plenty of good compassionate advice here. I hope your friend will follow it. Also thanks to animallover99 for that extract. I was going to suggest googling kidney diets and finding one that Saffie will enjoy. Most of us who have dealt with the veterinary needs of older dogs will lean towards quality over quantity, sad as it may be for someone who was not expecting it.

Just beautiful. A photo to treasure down the years.

Happened to me once, many years ago. Woman sent her six year old son out to the footpath where their Rottweiler had attacked (and would not let go) an assistance dog. The Rottweiler had the GR assistance dog by the ear and was shaking it continuously. The owner of the GR (certified blind but with some sight) and her adult son were screaming for help and the woman did nothing. I’d just arrived home from work and could hear a noise from the front which I first put down to children playing. I then realised that it was coming from people in distress and went out to see what was happened. No one was helping and to my horror, I realised that it was on me. So out I went yelling to the little boy asking him where was his mother. He pointed to her just standing in her front yard. Luckily, I knew the dog’s name had spoken to him on many occasions (but always went on the opposite side of the road if I was walking mine). Once I’d gone out and taken the Rottweiler by the collar and got him away from the GR many neighbours appeared, but the owner of the Rottweiler still did not come to take him inside - she left it to the little boy. I was unspeakably disgusted with the woman who knew her dog was dangerous and with others who did nothing to help (although I do understand how they would have been frightened). She’d previously boasted laughing all the way about how he’d attacked other dogs in the park. They offered no help to the owner or the dog and I was the one who took them to the emergency vet hospital. The owner of the GR had been bitten on her hand and because of existing health issues suffered from that injury for many months not to mention the psychological trauma. She was a wreck and had to take the owner of the Rottweiler to court to get any recompense. The worst of it was that she was terrified her dog would be taken away from her. People can be just plain horrible. -
Having seen the difference it has made to dogs who are frightened by approaching storms, I am a believer in valium. Tiny doses turned really really frightened little doggies back to normal in 10-20 minutes. I know this poor girl is weeing when startled and similar, but it could help.

No advice, just hugs and understanding. As you would know from experience, it really does depend on the dog and, of course, we have to adjust a lot or a little bit the way we behave around the house, always keeping an eye on them and ensuring they are comfortable.

Kyojin has bitten someone - what would you do?

I hope you can be a little bit easier now, @minxy. Your DH neighbour is well named ...... even if it took me a couple of reads to get it
