  1. I got the “all men” part, but just trying to think outside the box and put forward ideas. It is a long time ago now, but I noticed when I was volunteer walker at a pound that a lot of dogs were anything from ambivalent to downright scared of men. As I figured that all of these dogs could not have been mistreated by men, I started to think that maybe there were other things, such as a male smell, a male attitude, whatever ....... I don’t know. We all know that something that might scare the daylights out of one person, doesn’t mean anything to another. Ditto for dogs. And I totally agree with your last sentence. Having other dogs around who are happy to get love and cuddles is immeasurable. What !!! She lived her life in a kennel? Utter bastards. That photo of her and Zelda takes on an even greater delight.
  2. Re the teenaged boy. Sometimes things happen without we humans being able to understand. A couple of things I thought about, though. Does your boy use any products - deodorant, hairspray/shampoo etc etc. I wonder if changing all of these would make any difference? Trying to think of things that may have unhappy and/or scary associations for Barbie? Is he tall or bulky? Barbie may think he is a male towering over her and, in her mind, inserting himself into her personal space. She is such a sweetheart and your lad probably is too, Juice. Would be so good if her fears could be turned around and they became friends.
  3. I forgot to watch it . But anyone who listens to the news and takes an interest in their health of their dogs and cats really should know of the horrors. Manufacturers of dried baby milk use dangerous and poisonous fillers for these products ..... do you really think they’d care about what goes into dog food?
  4. Grand Opera Duet. Juice, they are totally beautiful. You must be so happy.
  5. Convenience trumps all, westiemum. You only have to look at the ever growing incidence of obesity in dogs and humans. And I have to plead guilty too once upon a time for buying cans although I haven’t done that for years. I still envy those people who scoop a cup of dried food out of a bag and that’s feeding the dog done. I wouldn’t do it though now that I know better. @Thistle the dog ABC 21 after the 7pm news. The program is called The 7.30 Report.
  6. Don’t forget that she has just been separated from her litter mates and they would have spent just about every waking hour (if they lasted as long as an hour ) playing as you describe. She is a tiny baby - don’t be anxious around her as that will make her anxious too. She doesn’t speak English So beautiful.
  7. Tonight Tuesday 19 June ABC TV. I’ve seen only the previews, but doesn’t look too good The only prepared food I use these days is Royal Canin Renal. And the only treats I buy are certified to contain only product - no additives, artificial colourings etc - and only made in Australia. Labelling is often not only just misleading, but also downright criminal because there are so many ways to get around the so called “guidelines”.
  8. Wasn’t it Enzi who had a growth on his lip?
  9. Unless advised otherwise by the vet, dogs should always have access to water .... accidents are to be expected and dealt with with understanding and cheerfulness.
  10. Well done, @jwtfor recognising the difficulties of your situation. You tried, you asked for help and guidance and you have come to the correct decision for your family and for the dogs.
  11. I’m not doing anything as productive as writing a thesis , but when I go into the study and sit at the computer, I’m followed silently by four little dogs who settle on their beds and rarely make a sound ........ unless it is around dinner time and then Mezza might make his presence known.
  12. Is this buddy permanent or just visiting? So Beautiful. I love bullies
  13. No, @westiemum , the poster isn’t a troll. She also posted a pic of her backyard asking whether a greyhound would get out. @~Anne~. Meh, indeed. There are a lot more issues than shutting the dog away: child has to be taught not to hurt animals; poster doesn’t want to be disturbed while she is working; doesn’t want a dog who needs attention; dog would be rarely walked. We we don’t need to “lighten up” or be lectured by you. We are looking at the while situation as described by the poster. Read in full before you fasten on one area.
  14. Make an appointment with your vet. Before the visit, make a list of everything you can think of that you’d like advice on. It will be money well spent. Good luck and most of all, both of you have fun
  15. I’ve been biting my tongue, @juice, but you have said exactly what I have been thinking. Except I wouldn’t even suggest a cat as: "It took nearly a year to teach not to squish guinea pigs.” Cats can be gorgeously squishy, but they can scratch. Getting a dog should be like getting another family member. Unlike a new family member, a dog isn’t shut away to have a couple of hours afternoon snooze. @jwt, it is good that you have asked these questions and told us about your family situation, but I, too, am having difficulty understanding why you want a dog. You have to consider the dog’s needs as well and if you have doubts that you can meet those, put “having a dog” back on the list for a time when you feel more up to it.
  16. I would not risk it. Those trunks would have to go from my place. Even little dogs like JRs could use them to get out.
  17. "It is a very important case because had Ms Holborn being successful in getting her dogs back it would have set a very bad precedent for not just all dog rescue organisations but for people adopting dogs from dog rescue organisations." Frankly, I think it is a disgusting result. The dogs should have been returned to their rightful owner. I’ve not read the full story or followed the saga, but went quickly to their website. Everyone is congratulating them so I guess I have missed something ?? Council should have been sued for not doing their job in the first place.
  18. They’d be easy enough to make, I imagine. A couple of cheapie doonas and fabric of your choice.
  19. There is a breeder of Aust Shepherds who does a huge amount of showing and has a lovely time with her dogs. She is very careful to watch whether her dogs enjoy it or not and quite often talks about how some just love it, others do it but not particularly fussed and how she doesn’t show those who don’t enjoy it. Very interesting perspective, I would have thought. Mainstreet Shepherds is the name. She used to be A DOLer, but you will find her by googling and she is on FB.
  20. Bugger But, yes, we will hope that it doesn’t return and that Sniper stays happy and healthy.
  21. So lovely that they have each other, Rozzie. Dearest little things.
