Loving my Oldies

Well, I've joined Facebook, but I have no idea what to do next. I'm starting to get emails from Facebook telling me that so-and-so wants to "Be my friend", but I'm not sure who they are - LOL. Seeing that their photographs have dogs in them, I am assuming they are DOLers .

Because, apart from a few "boutique" manufacturers and suppliers (of ANYTHING). Australia shops in China.

I'm glad you have had so many responses telling you that vets will come to your home and organise the cremation and everything for you, so it is good to read such positive posts. I just wanted to add to be sure that the vet is accompanied by a vet nurse, so you don't have to do anything but concentrate on cuddling and comforting your girl. If your girl is nervous of vets, she may pick up the smell on the vet and things like that. Once when I had to take one of my dogs to the vets to go to god, I asked if we could go out in the courtyard and afterwards I just say there for ages, cuddling Gong Zhu. Pretty well 99% of vets are there for us and our pets. My sympathies for you at this difficult time.

It is such "heart in mouth" stuff. I rounded the corner of my street walking a few of the dogs and saw a little Maltese up the street near my driveway. It was Nilla and I have absolutely no idea how she got out. :D Happy New Year and don't worry about the grey hairs. :D ;)

They seem expensive, but if they work and you used them judicously, they would be great. I have sent an email requesting prices for shipping to Australia. I have tried so many things - the electrostatic brush works well, but cleaning my furniture is virtually a gym workout - LOL.

What a difficult situation. If chooks do get rid of the fleas, could you consider one of those rolling pens where the pen can be rolled all around the yard? I would start with a few inconspicuous gardens of lavender. Maybe the perfume will relax the landlord

Frankly, I'd be forgetting the landlord and be planting as much lavender as possible. It is supposed to be a natural flea repellant and all the others that Newfsie mentioned. 5 acres and no trees . I would have planted every tree native to the area . I would [almost] kill for 5 acres.

Agree with this. With regard to sudden onset reactions and cumulative aversion, I used to think people "with allergies" were putting it on . Truly! I couldn't believe people were allergic to "things". Have I been paid back in spades for not being sympathic and understanding. Guess what I've been doing most of the day? Coughing and sneezing and blowing and I have no idea why. And another. I do hope you can find some answers soon.

When she had a dog herself, he slept on her bed. I think it is the NUMBER of dogs I have that she can't cope with ;) - and I do understand, really. :D And to go back to the topic: I cannot imagine myself taking my dogs anywhere without asking first.

Luckily we live in different cities, but on the few occasions when my eldest sister has visited me, she asks me to shut the dogs out. She always says that it is because her husband doesn't really like to be jumped all over ;) , but I know she is the one who finds being in a household of several dogs stressful. They are dirty, you know. LOL

I often thought of doing that with the ashes of the first little dog I had cremated because I have a long swatch of her hair from her beautiful tail. Having had several more little dogs cremated since Calypso, I am convinced that I don't have her. The amount of ashes I have would probably be for the size of a Border Collie or similar and Calypso was a 2kg Maltese . I think the outfit at the time (RSPCA) was just putting any number of dogs into the Crematorium and sending off a random scoop. It no longer worries me (except for the fact that places are being so dishonest and playing fast and loose with people's emotions), because I have photographs and memories, but initially it is extremely upsetting.

That is another sad event, Kimzy. It is always confronting when you take delivery of a little urn (I have 8 ). I am very sad that Princess has gone to god, and that your experience has been mixed to say the least. She was obviously an extremely precious little soul and I hope having her home will be a comfort. When one of my little dogs was killed, a lovely person made a large candle with his image on it. This is in my study and some days the aroma is all through the room and I think of it as Tirra's aura. From time to time I pick up the candle to breathe in and relish the gorgeous perfume and think of how much I loved this little dog. It still cuts me up and breaks my heart that he has gone, but I can get comfort and pleasure now for having something beautiful and tangible to remember him by.

Huh? That's what you would expect.

Only thing I can think of is to call the local member. AND centre management. Poor little creatures.

That is good news. Your OH is probably a bit "sensitive" at the moment having had his working hours reduced and not having the income you were all relying on, so I guess it is understandable that he would feel uncomfortable able getting help from strangers. Remember, though, that there are many very very genuine people here on DOL who would go to any lengths to help people whose animals are in distress. Looking forward to hearing that Boots is once again a happy healthy pup and to seeing photos. Well done.
