  1. What a dreadful time you have all been having, disorder. Poor poor Snotty. Hope his recovery is swift and complete.
  2. This is crucial and applies to virtually all facets of the lives of us living in the 21st Century. Every time "something goes wrong", there are calls for government intervention and that is the last thing society needs. Governments everywhere seem to be unmitigated failures. How many times do you hear, "[XXXXX] should be taught in school." Whatever happened to individual responsibility? Anecdotally, I believe the majority of people do the right thing. However as an example: people are allowing their dogs to run off lead, escape their yards, and terrorise/frighten people and other animals. Instead of putting a few more rangers on the beat, councils enact laws to further restrict the rights of dogs owners across the board. I would have thought that putting a few more rangers on the beat would be much more cost effective (sadly government seems more about the bottom line than actually governing) and make for a happier society than enacting yet more laws. RSPCA guidelines for animal care seem to be: adequate food, water and shelter. Doesn't matter if the dog is tied up in the back yard all day with a bucket of water that is changed every couple of months, and thrown a bone from time to time and can crawl into a broken down kennel, this apparently constitutes an okay environment. However to the original question: To not repeat what others have said, I will add an understanding of the particular breed of dog you have. The needs of one dog can be very different from those of another. It would be nice if small dogs owners (of which I am one ) understood that what they have is still a dog and not a toy even if it isn't 15 or more kgs. Perhaps the breeding world needs to change "Toy Dog Breed" to something different .
  3. My foster dog, Silvie, a 4kg Silky Cross, likes to play with Kisho, a much heavier dog and if Caramel joins in (he is about 7.5kg) she is even happier.
  4. Totally OT ;) . I have a photograph of my mother and it could be one of my nieces done up in clothes and hairstyle of the times.
  5. From what I've read on DOL and other results I've seen, I would be inclined to see these sorts of tests as just a bit of fun if you have the spare cash.
  6. What a lot of brave people we have here . I know what I'd be doing if I was confronted with a nutcase brandishing a large piece of wood....... as fast as I could. I would be inclined to do what you were thinking about, bertandsally, and door knocking your area and asking people if they know of her and/or where she lives. It is important, however, that you the whole event in writing and send it to the police, council, and local state member of parliament. Use short sentences and not "stream of consciousness" style. This may happen to someone else who isn't as fast as you and Sally are and then when the police and council say they knew nothing about this worman . . . ........ Oh and take up Grumpette's offer if only to see her beautiful dogs in the flesh ;)
  7. I would seem so. Sure are some brilliant photographers around.
  8. Another foreign object up his btm - . Yes pretty scary for you particularly because he is so tiny. I remember years ago visiting my vet at the time and going down to the big dog runs. There was a beautiful, but very sick Dalmatian and as I was leaving his owner came to visit. I asked my vet what his chances were and he said it was touch and go (can't remember what was wrong), but he was hopeful he'd be able to pull him through. After his owner left, the dog vomited up a huge mound of peanuts. Despite strict instructions that she was not to feed her dog anthing and particularly not nuts (she had been caught doing this before) she still did so. I believe the dog died. Dogs do love nuts and I give mine little bits from time to time.
  9. Yes, it is a source of continuing entertainment trying to guess the breeds that are in our rescue ones. I'm calling Kisho a Pomeranian cross African Painted Dog - LOL.
  10. Need to have signs and ad hoc patrols by rangers. Patrols definitely, but I find it amusing that people always expect signs. The law is that dogs must be under effective control in a public place. That means when you leave private property and go out in public your dog should be leashed. Simple. We don't just pop our seat belt off because the road we are driving on does not have a sign on it saying 'wear your seatbelt'. Needs to be stated. Despite rules "all dogs on leads in public places" lots of dogs are off their leads anywhere and everywhere.
  11. Just bumping this to Page 1. Yes, I'm a busy body, but procrastinating on all the other things I have to do.
  12. I don't know how to do that. I think the moderators have to do it. I cross posted this thread yesterday to a warning of the heat thread started by Inspector Rex. Sounds absolutely ghastly in SA and Vic.
  13. Need to have signs and ad hoc patrols by rangers.
  14. OMG. I'm reporting this [don't know to whom - LOL ].
  15. 6 months . She's going to be a big gal. Beautiful though.
  16. The price seems very reasonable to me, actually. But if you are disappointed, you need to let the people know.
  17. Hmmm, sounds a bit lax to me. I would be inclined to write them a nice letter saying that you were disappointed and cite the reasons. Just be straight forward, unemotional and businesslike.
  18. Disclaimer: I haven't read the entire thread . I think we can be a bit precious about having our dogs labelled incorrectly. I know there are people in the community who think they know everything about dogs and quite often turn out to know very little except they generally have four legs, but in the scheme of things, does it really matter? Get a t-shirt that says: My dog is a XXXXXXX A while ago now, I saw a woman walking a gorgeous really big black dog and I asked her (after exclaiming how beautiful the dog was) if he was a Wolfhound or similar cross. No, he was a labrador X poodle . Another time (I have recounted this story in another thread), I was at the vets and a dog came out of the consulting room who I thought was a Bull Terrier x Jack Russell. Turned out he was a completely shaved (because of ticks) West Highland Terrier :D .
  19. All good wishes for Eddie . . . . . and for his mum .
  20. They are very funny photos, Kirty . Who/what is the brindle leggy dog? Can I have, please?
  21. Oh my . Is one of those dogs little Saffie? Edited because I can't even type 1/2 dozen words without typos
  22. Ooohhhh Lucky Leo will have a visit from the Toof Fairy
