Oh my, what a stunning girl, Dwynwen. Such a huge hole their leaving us makes in our lives. :nahnah: RIP Suki

Thank you everyone . Danny seems fine now and is keeping down all his food and water and keeping his tail up. I did ask about keeping up the electrolytes, but he hasn't needed supplementary hydration. So all is goody good good.

They are steep and the width of each individual step is quite narrow. I think your fear would be realised as although Myrtie and Tamar use them to come up, no one will use them to go down. My bed is 58cm from floor to top of mattress.

I bet when he started he never dreamed how big DOL would become :D
-
He is much better, I think. His tail was up virtually the whole day, they all had two walks and he happily went on both. Such a relief to see him almost back to normal. Has taken a while though, because he was sick for a little while before I realised he was sick and not just being woosey. Nothing like good healing DOL vibes :D

Meeting A Breeder- Gilbert Is Home!

Absolutely great news, Yellowgirl. It is to be said that even when there are disagreements from time to time, dogs seem to get used to "how things are", so maybe it is not so much missing her as being pleased that the status quo has been restored. In the last couple of days, I have observed Tamar trying to urge Myrtie to play. Beforehand, Myrtie used to pick pick pick on Tamar, stop her when she came running to me, blocking her and things like that, but in spite of this, Tamar the Timid seems to becoming much livelier and wanting to play with Myrtie. Who knows . So long as they are happy

A Scare On My Walk The Other Morning
Loving my Oldies replied to all that glitters's topic in General Dog Discussion
An opportunistic trawler. Probably thought his stare was a come on and for some women or men, who knows, combined with a distinctive car, it might have worked. As it happened in broad daylight, I wouldn't be too concerned, but keep to streets where there are places, like the milk bar, you can duck into. If it happens again, dial 000 and when it is answered, look directly at him and say "POLICE please" very very loudly. -

Dylan's Tongue Is Cut
Loving my Oldies replied to spottychick's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Oh what a naughty spottychick. . From what you tell us about Dylan, I have no doubt that next time he sees the clippers he will grab them and make them bite you ;) Poor boy, poor you . Yes it is dreadful when we unintentionally do something to our babies and I could tell you a dozen times not to beat yourself up, but you will. ;) ;) Myrtie lies on a bed underneath the study table, and I have lost count of the times I have given her a kick -
Chaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrlotttttttttte, come to mummy moocher. ;)

:p :p Happily ate a bowl of chicken and rice so in an hour, I'll give him another. All the good wishes are doing their good work ;)

Photos From 70 Years Ago
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Because of something my brother said to me recently, I googled my mother's name in Images and came up with photographs of her from the early 1900s (she was born in 1908) from a photographic studio. There were also photographs of other members of her family. How amazing is that !!! So give it a try and see what you come up with. -
Well it is a cold and wet day, so nothing much happening here except using that as an excuse to spend too much time on DOL, the computer generally and the dogs can laze around snuggling into warm beddies and Danny can rest and hopefully get his tummy better.
-
We all have a laugh and feel warm and fuzzy when we hear those words following an "unsuccessful" rehoming, but most of us know that it isn't all beer and skittles, but at least the dog or cat is happy and that is that main thing. ;)
-
Thank you for all your good wishes. They are certainly appreciated. Danny seems okay if still a little "different". He has kept his food and water down, and no diarrhoea. He just seems unhappy and I've spoken to my vet about this this morning. However, I will keep him under close observation and if he still seems down by Wednesday, back to the vet.

Had to update this as I was almost comatose with shock. TAMAR CAME UP THE STAIRS !!!! I was lying in bed reading and ignoring her pleas to be lifted onto the bed and eventually she used the stairs. Only the once, but hopefully it will become the norm. Don't forget to talk to Santa, Shmoo

Should I Or Shouldn't I? Any Thoughts Appreciated.
Loving my Oldies replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
Fascinating stuff, s/chick. Is there a book "Your Gifted Dog" . He does sound wonderful, frankly, and yes, def has a sense of humour. Edited to add this website: http://www.dogwise.com/ -
That was after the visit to my normal vet and prior to 12 hours of hydration. But yes I did pick up the bowls of water (it is difficult with 5 dogs to manage these sorts of things). He seems to have settled down, had a very small meal of chicken and rice and wanted more - I had to be strong . A little later I gave him a teaspoon of plain yoghurt which he loves, but refused a couple of nights ago, so he must be feeling a bit better even though his tail is down

You may just have found yourself that, up until now, elusive creature, THE PERFECT DOG . My thoughts come from an extremely low base of knowledge with regard to training dogs to DO things, but at this stage, I wouldn't go down the pathway of, OMG he is too good for me and needs someone to teach him a thousand and one circus tricks. The main thing for now is that Dylan is one happy happy boy with two playmates and a loving caring owner. I would imagine those walks you go on with all the dogs would make him far happier that spending time in a ring weaving in and out of poles or any of the other tricks. -
What a handsome boy Harrison is. Big and Beautiful.

He's home ;) , but I think he isn't 100%. He didn't eat anything at the hospital which didn't surprise me as my dogs rarely take food from other people outside the house. Mind you, had I let him he would have raced into the garage when we arrived home and scoffed down Gussy Cat's food . He had a huge drink of water, some of which came up, but that didn't surprise me. So, it is a watching brief now as the cause is not evident . He isn't on any medication and he is to be fed just small meals of chicken.

Where Do You Bath Your Dog?
Loving my Oldies replied to lanabanana's topic in General Dog Discussion
Mine get bathed in the laundry tub and irregular intervals. I also take the long haired ones to the groomer. I think this thread calls for that wonderful photograph of Cazstaff's with one of her rescues in the tub with her daughter - one of the best pix ever. -
Well the vet rang me and it sounds as though it is non specific gastro problem. There has been no occurrence of vomiting or diarhhoea, but of course that could be result of cerenia injection given yesterday afternoon at my normal vet. She was going to try him on some little cooked chicken breast meat and if he keeps that down, he can come home. Having dogs who believe their main purpose in life is to not let their mother out of their sight, I like to leave them in hospital a little longer than is perhaps necessary, so I'll give him a little longer to stay settled and call to see if he has kept his lunch down; although the vet said if he brought it up she would call me and he would def be staying. No phone call from her so I am hoping that is a positive. Thank you for all your well wishes to what was a blatant call for sympathy
