  1. Exactly. But maybe scruffy n flea has been sitting outside these houses for 24 hours otherwise how else could she make such an assertion? :D :D
  2. I have received mine too. Just lovely and such excellent quality. You sure are a mover and shaker, Ams!! Do you think on the strength of having his photo on my Christmas cards, Roan's family will sign him over to me?  I am in love.
  3. And you've had how many rare breeds? Does it matter? What's with the theory that a general member of the public who adopts a dog from the pound can't be a kind and decent pet owner? Just because the dog in question is a relatively rare breed, doesn't mean that the first person on the list to adopt it is less likely to give it a good home. T. It does to me. To those guardians of rare breeds it is of vital importance where one of their number ends up rather than thinking that as long as a dog has a home that's okay rather than having the right home for that breed. You think someone in rescue would care about that but your :D would indicate you just don't give a shit or just don't have any understanding of what it's like to have one of the rare breeds. Well that is drawing a pretty long bow, Sheridan. It isn't as though the dog in question is a 70kg guardian dog. If it matters so much to you, perhaps put your money where your mouth is and set up a breed specific rescue. Or have you already done that?
  4. Sounds like it to me Well the dog isn't at DOL. If you wanted to get the dog, you could have gone directly to the pound yourself and not rely on a thread on a forum.
  5. You will always miss your Molly Dog, Sheenat. I have 10 urns on my bookshelf and I still think of just about every one of them just about every day. There does come a time, when, if they have lived to a good age like Molly, you start to remember with a smile instead of tears. And even when there are tears, there will be smiles because you will see Harry hooning around like a likely lad should. :)
  6. That's a lovely offer, KHM. Piperspal's puppy could recuperate under Earl's ears. Thinking of you and your puppy, Piperspal.
  7. OMG, Ams and Maverick's Mission!!! Too too much
  8. You mean pure breds? Or were they all surrendered with pedigree papers? Whats with the nit picking? They were purebred dogs, how would I know what they were surrended with. I'm just a member of the public making an observation. It's what some people live for, sadly, Michelleva. Some years ago, I worked in a pound and, again sadly, I understand what you are saying.
  9. What a lovely/sad, lovely/happy thread. Your Molly was indeed a beautiful girl, Sheenat, and young Harry the Lad is a very lucky boy to be joining your household. There is another thread about getting a Cocker at Christmas, so we lucky DOLers are in for lots and lots of Cocker Puppy photographs.
  10. OMG! Cocker puppies are really something special. I don't actually know much about the breed, but I've seen a couple of puppies over the years and they are so gorgeous and funny. I'm excited :D :D
  11. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/173944-weimaraner/
  12. Shelties are wonderful dogs. I suggested a sheltie! My siblings concern is that it will require alot of grooming. Sheesh!! The things people worry about. One dog - take it to a groomer every few weeks.
  13. Crikey Seems to me that CHA knows 100% what she is doing: asking for advice, experimenting with what works for her dog and taking her dog to training. Full marks from me, CHA. ETA: Congratulations on the break through this morning.
  14. Start trawling the PetRescue website. If you mum is retired and lives alone and has plenty of free time, I don't see much wrong with getting a puppy. She'd have the time and energy to put into getting it trained and enjoying all the variety :D :D that goes with a puppy I'm a few years older than your mum and have 5 small dogs - have had up to 8 at one time which included foster/rescue dogs. For what it is worth, the only consideration here is the breed, which is why I suggest having a look at the PetRescue website where you will see a vast array of dogs of all breeds, mixes and ages. Unless someone is absolutely fixated on a particular breed, in the final analysis they will love whatever dog they get.
  15. In my latest book, a copper, lady private detective and woman who hired the private detective are sitting in a park. A fellow walking his dogs allows it to poop and walks on without picking it up. Lady detective tells him to pick it up, he tells her to f**k off, copper gets up and heavy with fellow, fellow gets aggressive, copper flashes his warrant card - LOL. I am off to apply to be a copper so I can get a warrant card. Sorry, MUP - bit off topic.
  16. This would be my suggestion, too. Why have a little dog in a crate when he should be running around? He can do that in a play pen. For the car, when he is big enough, a harness and an attachment that clips into the seat belt clip. In the meantime, an old fashioned cat carrier which is solid on the base and wire on sides and top so he can see you and look around.
  17. When the groomer can fit my dogs in. When I walk onto the deck and it is clean of wees. When I walk onto the deck and the food bowls have been licked clean. When I finally found the perfect food bowls for my dogs.
  18. Poor you. I rescued a ferret once. I was in my lounge and saw something move beneath the piano stool. Did a double take - that's not one of my dogs!!  Without even giving a thought to how "horrible nasty animal" it was, I grabbed it and put it in the bathroom. Luckily I knew a couple who did Ferrett Rescue and they came and collected him the following day. I did put posters up around the place because the little girl/boy had been seen around the place in case someone was looking for him. The remarkable thing was that he'd safely negotiated Old Canterbury Road. I have to admit though, it took a lot of scrubbing to get the smell out of my bathroom and I had to replace the shower curtain.which was shredded. But I still consider that my fault because I should have put him in a crate. He was probably terrified.
  19. We aren't going to be lodgers or house guests, we are moving in permanently - LOL. Those pix of Huckleberry pretending to be a tree stump and among the roses
  20. Umm, that's a bit extreme . Maybe re-read what the OP did say to the man... Now there's a thought -  .
