How awful for you, Cougar, and poor cat. I agree with leaving a note, keep it brief, and perhaps put in something (gently) about "despite previous warnings"...... I hope he/she is not seriously injured and comes home for treatment. IMO, I think you need to reiterate that you have warned her because she might try to make you pay for the cat's injuries if they require treatment. Bit different but: My cat is "free range" but rarely leaves the yard. People used to walk their dog off leash passed my place, dog had no recall and they used to think it funny that he would run into my yard and chase Gussy Cat. They were very politely told to control their dog and that Gussy was old and didn't need that sort of aggrevation. However, if Gussy was wandering into a yard where there were dogs who could possible harm her and I had been warned about and I allowed this to happen, then I would be responsible for any damage and irresponsible as to the needs and welfare of my cat.

As above. Mine (all ten of them) are on top of the bookshelf in the study, where I don't see them every time I walk in, but where I can look at them when I feel the need to "talk" to them all. I have photographs scattered around the house as well.

I have Calypso's Pedigree Papers from 1993. Unfortunately, I doubt you'd come across her even in by looking into her cremation urn. She was cremated using the "services" of the RSPCA and judging from the amount of ashes returned to me, I'd say all the cremations they did were just jumbled in together and ashes just scooped up willy nilly without any thought to the size of the dog.

I don't know of any organisations, but try contacting Rescued with Love - they may have some idea.

The Urgent Pound Dogs

Which is probably a much better solution to getting a wider exposure. And if the information and photographs are already on the particular pound's website/FB, why reinvent the wheel, as it were. -
The Urgent Pound Dogs
Loving my Oldies replied to Greylvr's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
There is a sub forum for Urgents, Greylvr. See Urgent Rescues and Requests. :) I think that the forum has too many sub forums and so lots of these topics aren't even looked at anymore. Which is fair enough, of course. People are entitled to read only what they want to, but it does decrease the exposure to not only the urgency of dogs' needs, but also to a wider range of information. -
Myrtie's latest "demand" is that she is picked up so can lie on the desk and have her tummy tickled. As I am but a slave to several dogs and one cat, I cannot refuse.

Stunning, Rachel, and wonderful that Alaska has another mate to share her enclosure. His coat is very very glossy, so although he was overweight, your mother obviously looked after him. A much loved Bear Boy

Well that sure is worthy of breaking most rules, Ams. Congratulations P_S . Except for Bunter, my dogs eat to stay alive so unless I am uforgivably late with breakfast or dinner, there aren't any performances. Even Bunter doesn't create; just lies in the hallway in view of the kitchen keeping an eye on me in readiness - LOL.

Much nicer, but will eventually become Lucy - LOL. And nothing wrong with that. Nice name.

Omg He Is So Handsome
Loving my Oldies replied to Greylvr's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I've been thinking about this a bit and wondering why people find it necessary to find fault because someone thinks differently from them. It reminds me of the question that has been asked many time over the years on this forum and that is: why do some rescuers rescue old dogs. Surely the young are more worthy. And also reminds me of the question that I am sure every rescuer has been asked at some stage in their life as a rescuer: why do you help animals, surely children are more worthy. We are all different, we all focus on the things that we think we can do and the areas in which we feel we can help or have some sort of expertise. Thoughts at random . . . . . . -
Cruelty Charges Against Underbelly Character
Loving my Oldies replied to Curlybert's topic in In The News
And because of what appears to be irreconcilable animosity (to say the least), the animals suffer yet again and the hands of humans. And at the hands of those who profess to be their saviours .... individuals and RSPCA alike. -
Omg He Is So Handsome

Well said. Not okay to have an opinion anymore with someone finding something to object about Exactly and so you should be able to without someone getting their knickers in a knot. I know what you're getting at but is it not okay for someone to share their appreciation for a dog, regardless of how long it has left to live? There is an urgent rescue section for dogs who are nearing their date. Someone sees a dog on a website who takes their fancy and posts its photo. How can that reek of PR? The dog is beautiful, Greylvr. If his temperament is as great as his looks, let us hope that he is given a beautiful home. -
yes, she was... but that injury would have changed all that .. it is similar to a very elderly and frail human breaking a hip ..like my Mum .the surgery was just too much for her old body to cope with... Chicken, persephone is right. And despite knowing we have done "the right thing" by one of our old, sick, injured, damaged animals and pets, we many many times have out doubts and wonder whether we could have done more (and sometimes less). Be kind to yourself as you would be to someone else in your situation.

Pounds are not advertising themselves as Rescue Groups.

I would hope, but have very little expectation, that those people you are so generous towards would extend that same generosity to you, Alkhe. If a person believes they are right and someone else is wrong, it behoves them to explain this in a polite and non-argumentative manner. DOL is not a shining example of such practices. I believe there are enough polite and interested DOLers whose knowledge is widespread and worthwhile, not to give truck to those who are rude and overbearing. Greylvr, the Pound Rounds thread maybe long and repetitive and distressing, but look at it like you would an application form for the dogs you want to rehome to the best possible homes available. And with that in mind, it won't hopefully be such a trial to plough through. :) :)

Precious eyes - all opening. I pray to St Francis they will see only beauty in their worlds.

I think little Charlie might be the helper/healer here. And, in time, Abby may play with your Amstaff. I hope so.

That's a tough call, gwp4me, but one I certainly understand and, with recognising that it is up to the griever, one I endorse. Many years ago, when I brought home another dog to a home which comprised me and Nammu, Nammu was almost instantly healed from a little dog who couldn't be left alone, who cried and whimpered whenever anybody came to the house, who jumped in the car looking for Calypso whenever I came home. Whilst he and the dog I adopted didn't become soul mates, he had the company of another dog and that was what seemed to matter. I hope you and Abby find a way through the grief, Chicken.
-
This is a very distressing time for you and Abby made worse for you because you have to also witness Abby's distress and confusion. Comfort her and give her time. Persephone's idea of massage is spot one. Google Tellington TTouch. Condolences and hugs to you both.

Lots of dogs laying eggs. Photo in #7 Kirislin - very evocative a dog being a dog and loving a dog's life.

Sammy The Anti-gardener And His Big Weekend
Loving my Oldies replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Why? Poster is a new DOLer, she is only trying to be helpful and worried about a puppy going to his new home at Christmas. She obviously doesn't know KatDogs. I wish I was KatDogs new puppy. The attention would probably overwhelm me though -
For a first time mummy, she is obviously a natural. Although in some photos she looks as though she wondering what the hell happened, she is still being so loving and caring for the pups.

I am getting quite concerned actually. I fear that many DOLers' screens are going to explode when Fat Sammy appears -
My dogs can please themselves, I'm in with air con going LOL. Jeune tends to go out and lie on the deck in the full sun, but she can have it on her own.
