  1. Yes, some dogs definitely smell more than others. As cricket says. You need to look at your furnishings and investigate where smells can be trapped. What Not even the smell of hot buttered toast and vegemite?? Back to doggy smells: Get rid of carpet - LOL. Have only mats that can be washed in the washing machine or hosed down and left in sun to dry. Have lots of dog bedding and change every couple of days, look at the sort of bedding you buy to ensure it can be washed in washing machine. No point in having a clean dog if he or she is going to lie on not as clean bedding. As someone else has said, try to dry bedding in the sun - the sun is a great disinfectant. Look at areas where smells can be trapped: curtains that touch the floor, corners where hair can be trapped, empty the vacuum cleaner regularly or use an essential oil like lavender in the filter, change cushion covers and put cushions out in the sun to air. Anything that the dogs can brush up against regularly such as doorways. And don't forget collars, leads, harnesses. These need to be washed regularly as well. I put mine in washing bags so the metal fasteners aren't banging against the washing machine barrel. Candles and essential oils are all very well (I have recently weakened and have been using Febreze even though I have a horror of all the chemicals that we are putting into the atmosphere), but nothing beats a bit of elbow grease, something I have to tell myself on a very regular basis. BTW, what breed is your puppy?
  2. Whew!! Well I'm pleased it has turned out well for you, but I can't help feeling sorry for the little dog. What did the woman have to say about the dog's fear of everything?
  3. My thoughts too. I'd want them where I could see them and have them ready to protect me LOL.
  4. All of the above LOL. For all the house sitters I have used, I made a list of everything they had to do daily and picking up dog poo was definitely on the list. Even the things you would expect to be a given and/or automatic like ensuring waters bowls cleaned and filled need to be on the list. I typed out a list in diary form of everything that had to be done on each day that I was away because some meds were daily and some every second day. In my opinion, you cannot give too much information. Make a note of everyone you do through the day and add it to the list and then put it in an easy to follow form.
  5. Obviously one likes to give the benefit of the doubt, but the breeder's lack of response to your concerns sounds very suspicious to me. Even if something has cropped up in her personal life to prevent her getting back to you, there are surely other people in her business she could get to return your calls ? Most ethical people who adopt out dogs whether they be breeders or rescuers are in contact that evening and then after a couple of days to check that all is going well or to discuss any problems .... Just to give support. This person's lack of interest if it be that, makes me very concerned about al dogs in her care I have two timid dogs and although they are light years away from what you are experiencing, it can be very depressing and disheartening to see their behaviours.
  6. Jules, I am so happy for you all. Miah looks totally scrumptious and I am sure she will soon have Joey and Renae wrapped around her precious paws
  7. LOL - she sure is gorgeous. I think I'll have to get me one of those pools - for me that is, I can't see my dogs using one. :D :D
  8. LOL, I was surprised to find them together like that, so I had to record it for posterity.  Sometime later, I found Bunter had gathered all the chewed bones for himself:
  9. Isn't she beautiful . . . . . . Hussy !!!
  10. They are truly very beautiful dogs. They do make me feel a bit hot though  not exactly fur coat weather.
  11. You are absolutely right Erny and I should have quoted the whole post to show those words in context which would then have put my negative judgement in context. :) :)
  12. Obviously, I can't vouch for individuals, but I used the Happy Housesitters website in 2008. I had very specific demands such as preferring a couple one of whom was home most of the time, etc etc and I found exactly what I was looking for. Long time ago, though. I also did a google search on the people who applied. I also met the couple beforehand.
  13. All those gorgeous puppies and now we can follow all ten Rachel I am sorry to be disloyal   , but ......... Epic and Stealth
  14.  OT: but why anyone needs to assert their authority over their dogs is quite beyond me.
  15. I hope I don't jinx myself by participating in this thread . I haven't had any accidents on the bed for years. Rover ( ) was occasionally incontinent because he was really old, but belly bands took care of that. They were just the best best thing. Every so often, I think I'd like the bed to myself (or at least dog free :D ), but then I miss them. I usually have one draped around my head or as close to as she can possibly get, and the other three at various points around the bed. Bunter has to sleep on the floor as he starts growling and wanting to fight the others so as much as I feel for him, he knows his place in a very soft bed and happily curls up there once I given him a pat and a scratch.
  16. LOL, I popped in here to see where "we" were with this delivery and TODAY IS THE DAY I had a little laugh about your nervousness ---- at my expense. When I first had two little puppies, I was a wreck. I'd not had a pet for decades, knew nothing about puppies and was sooooooo nervous. A friend came to visit and I remember crying on her shoulder, I was so worried that I'd do the wrong thing. I even asked my vet if puppies could die of cot death. Anyway, I am very very excited for you and can't wait to see pix and and learn about your third Cav and how Jules and Renae are adjusting to a new family member.
  17. It is understandable that you are reluctant to contact the person who recommended the breeder to you. However, if the breeder is not returning any of your contact methods, you really are absolutely entitled to do this. You have been handed a very unhappy situation which for the sake of both you and the little dog, needs to be resolved. For someone who cares about dogs, to see a dog scared and unhappy is vey very distressing, so I wish you and the little dog a happy outcome eventually.
  18. 5 dogs all at once - aren't you a glutton for punishment. And thank goodness you are Those little dogs are going to have the best introduction to the big outside world. They are all gorgeous Rachel and so are you and your Best Boys !!
  19. He hasn't been gone long from his real mummy, remember. I am sure other multi-dog households could comment as well, but it seems to me that, despite all dogs getting on well, there are always a couple more attached to each other than to the others. Like so - look at Tamar trying to squeeze into a tiny bed with Jeune LOL.
