I'm not  , but I'm curious as to how big they grow. Pigs are amazing creatures, but not known for their house keeping skills. LOL.

I have also heard that police are trained to shoot to kill. Police are trained to aim at the largest mass, (ie, centre of the body) giving the greatest chance of actually hitting a target. To hit just an arm or leg is incredibly skilled shooting and in the circumstances that most shootings occur in, the chances of making the hit are very slim. They're not trained to "shoot to kill" but if they are on target, the results are likely to be death as there are so many organs that can be hit. This is what I have believed going on only what I have read in the media about police shootings. Very sad and horrible for the dog, without question, but also very sad for the people involved. There are no longer institutions for the people who have mental problems. They are just left to their own devices and families are simply not able nor in a position to be able to control, manage or deal.

What an extraordinary thing to say! How on earth do you "know" that is how most of the people on DOL would react? I must have missed that poll. I rather feel that most people on DOL, seeing a dog on the loose, would immediately think: OMG loose dog, what can I do to get it to safety.
-
I agree with both these posts. I also wonder what will happen to the thief? The article only said he was being interviewed.

I certainly understand what you are saying, Stari, but I can't agree that the best place for him is the RSPCA. The best place would be a loving caring home. Espinay2, that is a teensy bit hard. Poster has already said she knows the options, but each comes with a downside. Sadly that's the way of the world. Keisha09, is there any possibily that the owners would let you take on the dog? He sounds very easy going and the poor thing isn't having much of a life at the moment. I understand they are scary people, but if you think hard about how you could appreach them without making them sound responsible for the dog's wandering etc etc.

Ha ha ha - I had to laugh at this. My car has carried so many dogs over the years, so many "accidents", so much car sickness, etc etc. Whenever I have a passenger (human that is) I cover the seat with a towel as dog hair is almost impossible to get out of cars. New seat covers are on my shopping list.

That is a very heart warming story, Crickets, and I really understand how you feel about not being able to make them all feel special. Dee Dee sounds like one VERY special girl and I am sure she and Bobby both feel that way every waking moment. It takes a special person, too, to recognise the importance of other creatures' needs and to act on that recognition

All fixed and computer man and I looked at your videos, Crickets. Just lovely. Seeing them racing around together must make you feel very happy for them. Do you think having a mate has changed Dee Dee?

Ilka From West Wyalong: An Update.
Loving my Oldies replied to Aphra's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
She is beautiful, Aphra, and her new family sounds lovely. They won't be able to forget they have a new family member   -
OMG, how can you defame such a glorious creature. Any odour given off by her could only remind one of roses.  Oil of cloves for mould - I was given this tip by a chap at Woolies as I was looking for something to give my washing machine a clean as all around the rubber rim had gone mouldy and the smell was awful and pervasive. I now shake a few drops of Oil of Cloves onto a damp cloth and wipe around the rim. Smell gone.

That photo of Miah half in half out of the Weetbix box --- totally hilarious. -
Dreams Do Come True ! :)

She is a super model with brains as well as beauty and knows to look forward to the time when a younger version is on the catwalk and she can be the one behind the camera. It is always good to have contingency plans. Miah is obviously a very smart young gal. I have to admit that in my mind, I am calling her Moonbeam - LOL. -
That is truly awful. Only good thing is she probably won't be in business for long. No one would be going back to her and she wouldn't be getting references. I hope your cat is okay now.

I could see only bits of these clips. Luckily I have a computer guy coming this afternoon, so hopefully he will get it sorted. But the bits I saw . Great to see the DeeBob show in action, as it were   .

Even if your pets are on medications, it doesn't have to be all that long. I'll PM you the document I made for my last house sitter.

Yes, some dogs definitely smell more than others. As cricket says. You need to look at your furnishings and investigate where smells can be trapped. What Not even the smell of hot buttered toast and vegemite?? Back to doggy smells: Get rid of carpet - LOL. Have only mats that can be washed in the washing machine or hosed down and left in sun to dry. Have lots of dog bedding and change every couple of days, look at the sort of bedding you buy to ensure it can be washed in washing machine. No point in having a clean dog if he or she is going to lie on not as clean bedding. As someone else has said, try to dry bedding in the sun - the sun is a great disinfectant. Look at areas where smells can be trapped: curtains that touch the floor, corners where hair can be trapped, empty the vacuum cleaner regularly or use an essential oil like lavender in the filter, change cushion covers and put cushions out in the sun to air. Anything that the dogs can brush up against regularly such as doorways. And don't forget collars, leads, harnesses. These need to be washed regularly as well. I put mine in washing bags so the metal fasteners aren't banging against the washing machine barrel. Candles and essential oils are all very well (I have recently weakened and have been using Febreze even though I have a horror of all the chemicals that we are putting into the atmosphere), but nothing beats a bit of elbow grease, something I have to tell myself on a very regular basis. BTW, what breed is your puppy?

New Dog From Breeder.. Something Not Right......
Loving my Oldies replied to mel121's topic in General Dog Discussion
Whew!! Well I'm pleased it has turned out well for you, but I can't help feeling sorry for the little dog. What did the woman have to say about the dog's fear of everything? -
My thoughts too. I'd want them where I could see them and have them ready to protect me LOL.
-
All of the above LOL. For all the house sitters I have used, I made a list of everything they had to do daily and picking up dog poo was definitely on the list. Even the things you would expect to be a given and/or automatic like ensuring waters bowls cleaned and filled need to be on the list. I typed out a list in diary form of everything that had to be done on each day that I was away because some meds were daily and some every second day. In my opinion, you cannot give too much information. Make a note of everyone you do through the day and add it to the list and then put it in an easy to follow form.

New Dog From Breeder.. Something Not Right......
Loving my Oldies replied to mel121's topic in General Dog Discussion
Obviously one likes to give the benefit of the doubt, but the breeder's lack of response to your concerns sounds very suspicious to me. Even if something has cropped up in her personal life to prevent her getting back to you, there are surely other people in her business she could get to return your calls ? Most ethical people who adopt out dogs whether they be breeders or rescuers are in contact that evening and then after a couple of days to check that all is going well or to discuss any problems .... Just to give support. This person's lack of interest if it be that, makes me very concerned about al dogs in her care I have two timid dogs and although they are light years away from what you are experiencing, it can be very depressing and disheartening to see their behaviours. -

Jules, I am so happy for you all. Miah looks totally scrumptious and I am sure she will soon have Joey and Renae wrapped around her precious paws  -
Lizzie Relaxing In Her Pool
Loving my Oldies replied to BoStoNmAdNeSs's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
LOL - she sure is gorgeous. I think I'll have to get me one of those pools - for me that is, I can't see my dogs using one. :D :D
