Okay, I'm A Weakling -
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
Okay, an update. Melza, you are right and it is a welfare issue, so the Council referred me to the RSPCA. As it is not illegal to leave your dog in the car in NSW, there is nothing the RSPCA can or will do. RSPCA person just told me that if you see a dog in a locked car and it is in distress, call the police. So not a great result really, but maybe my note under the windscreen wipers will be enough. For anyone finding themselves in this situation, the RSPCA number in Sydney is 9770 7555. -

What a great shot. Those photos are such a wonderful record and I am sure you will all look at them many times over the years. -

True, but dogs aren't humans and the general doesn't always suit the specific. :) -

I think we just have to recognise that we are not going to agree, BoxerB - and I have to yet again point out that you did not bother to read and take in my Opening Post in which I said I was going to call the police when I saw a man come out of the shopping centre and go to the car. -

A mixture of raw (beef, chicken, roo) and steamed pureed vegetables - the vegetables have to be pureed or they won't eat them. Sometimes a bit of rice mixed in, sometimes egg beaten into it. I get my food from Aussie Pet Supplies in Marrickville including the treats of roo jerky, dried chicken necks, dried roo bones all Sydney produced. I don't feed them cans, or any of those strip imported foods. I read in Urban Animal a long time ago what was done to produce those rawhide knots and never bought them again. However it is such a long trip that I am trying another supplier and should have the first supplies this Tuesday. If I'm not happy with their food, I'll continue to make the trek to Marrickville (Sydenham actually). http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/246581-quality-pet-food-supplier/ -

LOL! Bunter would eat all day and every day if he could, but the others just eat to stay alive. With regard to the raw meat being so filling - that had never occurred to me. Most of their diet is raw meat. I had long ago stopped worrying as they aren't exactly fading away :D ; it was just annoying to see them sniffing and prancing and backing away as though I was trying to make them eat nasties - LOL - and then pick up the full or just picked at bowls. -
I've finally stopped waiting 15 minutes and then picking up ignored food bowls. I'm feeding them once a day - LOL. Actually I do give them a bit of jerky or a chicken neck mid morning and then give them a big feed at night and it seems to be working. Every little morsel licked up in record times.

At least a visit from authorities may make this person think to not do it again. Discouraging such actions is what is it all about, and I think this person should be reported, he did the wrong thing, the outcome was ok but he still did the wrong thing. This morning a lady at the local Milk Bar left her car running with 2 kids inside while she ran into the shop, I watched until she came out, as nothing happened this time do you think she should be encouraged to keep leaving the kids in a running car? That's how I feel, BigDaz. Excellent examples, thank you. -
Rehoming Rescue Dogs - How To Enforce Desexing ?
Loving my Oldies replied to brutus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Apart from my having answered that just a couple of posts ago, this has been answered a squillion times over the years: it means that that particular dog will not produce any more dogs. Simple as. You say there is no evidence that desexing dogs reduces the numbers in the pound. Well where is your evidence against it? Numbers alone will not prove anything except there are greater or lesser numbers. As with humans, there are probably more dogs in the world than 100 years ago, ergo there are likely to be more dogs, numerically, in pounds. And there would be a damned sight more if dogs were not desexed. -
Rehoming Rescue Dogs - How To Enforce Desexing ?
Loving my Oldies replied to brutus's topic in General Dog Discussion
LOL Anne. So because the vast majority of us believes totally in desexing before rehoming means we are not thinking independently.  However, if we go along with you, giving up our beliefs, that would be independence?? Too cute. -

Isn't that just great . Dog in a car in Brisbane heat = recipe for disaster and terrible suffering. -

Rehoming Rescue Dogs - How To Enforce Desexing ?
Loving my Oldies replied to brutus's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think you are being a bit cute here, Anne. You know very well that the argument for desexing before rehoming is meant to prevent any unplanned (or planned ) litters with the possibility that they will be fodder for pounds. -

I hope the meet and greet goes well, too. Please let us know. -
This is good advice, but I think sometimes we just have to share our fears and sorrows, before we square our shoulders and get on with it :)

This is exactly the sort of thing that can happen. Glad you had an example dogmad -
Have to echo this . W Sibs' commitment to Charlie over the years has been total, and giving him siblings has been wonderful for him.

You obviously didn't read my opening post :) . Yes, there is need for further action, because next time, the dog might be left in the car for longer and on a much hotter day. And who is to know that someone, thinking: well I'll only be gone a few minutes while I rush into a shop, isn't going to meet with some sort of delay - maybe an accident, maybe meeting a friend and just forgetting. A lot can happen in the space of a few minutes. -
