Does She Really Need An Elizabethan Collar?
Loving my Oldies replied to WExtremeG's topic in General Dog Discussion
None - LOL. All rescues from pounds. -
I didn't realise that about the white bully, juice, but I didn't particularly like it. Love coloured properly proportioned minis. I'm so glad others feel the same way as I do about the GSD. I wonder if judges will start to have some guts and throw the "deformed" ones out of the show ring ??
-
Yes, but why? Aren't there enough breeders of German Shepherds for whom the dog is more important to be able to take a stand? As these deformed creatures are winning at shows, I guess not. There are breeders who take a stand, they just don't win in the showring. I would rather a healthy dog who has never seen a showring. (Pic is not mine, its a stock image) Wow, a GSD that doesn't look like its arse is hanging around its ankles. But one of its elbows is almost touching the ground.

Obviously, I knew about coconuts and drinking the juice, but I didn't know about its rehydration properties. Can/would the dogs drink it, that is when they are on the way to Sally's condition?
-
Thanks for that, WoofnHoof. It is definitely something to be aware of, particularly over summer. I was also interested in Sheena's post about coconut water.
-
Well, no wonder I was confused :D :D I agree. It is illogical, but sometimes these things happen despite all efforts to the contrary. The lack of logic with regards to foxes doing what they have evolved to do is what I have been trying to point out .

So why are these dogs winning, for goodness sake. Wasn't there one recently who despite being unable to walk properly won either BIS or BOB somewhere?? Why are German Shepherd Breeders breeding dogs who, seemingly, will win in the show ring, but not be sound?

I couldn't look at my cat when he killed 6 day-old chickens. I'm not as fond of him as I was and I don't trust him at all. I despise the GSD who visits next door and killed one of my chooks. Its even easier to hate foxes. Yes, I totally understand and would feel the same, but do you think your cat is evil or the GSD evil? Judging by the horns sticking out from the sides of their heads they are! Don't get you

I don't think I'm in any danger of continued imbalance because the need to "top up" isn't constant. I've never been one for soft drinks of any kind, really, and there is so much negative press about all kinds of manufactured drinks these days. I like an occasional lemonade (as part of a shandy) and dry ginger ale (as part of a whisky and dry)  .

Doesn't worry me. A good dog is like art . . . . . I know what I like.
-
LOL and I am happy to make it ..... on looks alone. I have never shown, never likely, and am happy to know that a dog is happy and healthy. That GSD is plain sad. Look at the difference between the younger and older photographs in terms of the back legs. Elbow is heading to the ground.

Best wishes for Sally and thank goodness your vet finally got to the cause and knew how to treat. I perspire very very heavily and when I was doing bootcamp last year, asked the instructor as to whether or not I should take any electrolytic drinks. I am not in favour of so called replacement drinks. He suggested just some pure sea salt, a pinch in a litre of water. I've found the link, but it is PDF document. Anyone know how to load, please?

I think you've done your best, Cleveland. Perhaps bring the food closer and closer to the house and you may find they are quite approachable. The problem is, of course, whether or not they've been desexed. The woman who abandoned them doesn't seem like the person to have taken that into consideration. Try not to stress too much.

Look after yourself. And def take dogs where they are well loved.

Happy Birthday Jaz Xxx

Lucky Jaz - doted on and much loved by a special family. Happy Birthday -
LOL. I'd love to have that Chutzpah, HugL.

Is it a Pug thing? I watched Best In Show recently and reading this thread brought to mind the humping pug in the final minutes of that movie - LOL.
-
That is such an awful look and if a dog needs that done to it to stand still, in my opinion the owner and judges need to have further training .
-
I haven't read the whole thread, but I was so pleased to see these posts because I was quite shocked and was hoping I wasn't the only one. I thought some of the photographs were simply awful and in some the dogs looked almost deformed !! When I saw the Whippet, my immediate thought was that Kirislin's dogs would beat that one hands down. Same for some of the other breeds I've seen represented on DOL. Juice, I thought the while Bully looked "not so good", but really liked Yum Yum the coloured one - LOL. The photo of the GSD made me just feel sad. ETA: I watched a video of Best In Show a couple of days ago - LOL.

A very unhappy day for you RiverStar and I am so sorry the transfer has fallen though. Commuting like that doesn't add up to a good lifestyle. Were you given any reasonable explanation? As for your dogs being called "evil", I agree with what Aidan2 says, frankly. Not that that is any help to you at the moment, sadly. I wonder if it might be worth your while (and when you are feeling more upbeat and positive) to pay a visit to those people and explain to them more of what was going and the dangers of teaching children that other creatures are evil? I do appreciate that this would be an extremely difficult and emotional task for you and if you decided along these lines, you'd have to be prepared for it to not turn out well. Sometimes things done with the best intentions turn around and bite us on the bum - Hard.

Dogs Not Restrained In Moving Vehicles
Loving my Oldies replied to Mystiqview's topic in General Dog Discussion
LOL, where's the fun in that? I'm joking of course. Dogs unrestrained in vehicle = potential trouble. I am guilty, too. Unfortunately, we are becoming more and more legalistic because people don't think and thoughtlessness can cause us all a lot a damage, financially and emotionally, in terms of the costs brought to bear by all sorts of accidents. When "things go wrong" people scream that the government "should do something" ...... and then of course scream again when the government puts up taxes to pay for more and more of what society as a whole won't take care of. -
Quality Pet Food Supplier Hornsby, Hills Area
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
My first delivery from Swaggerbout arrived this morning and the dogs have been chewing on the roo jerky ever since. They will be trying some of the beef tonight. One good thing so far is that the roo jerky is in much smaller pieces than from my usual supplier and I don't have to break my hand and scissors trying to cut the pieces to suit little dogs.
