  1. Congratulations! Bit confronting having your dog act in a Rainbow Bridge segment
  2. If you do go down the breeding route, there is a DOLer called Wazzat Xolo who imported and starting breeding the Xoloitzcuintli (yep had to look it up to get it correct  ). I imagine her experience would be invaluable for a first time importer and breeder.
  3. I have to go an google too while we wait for photos of your dog
  4. I love a gal who is a bit OTT with colour . She is gorgeous and reminds me of the Christmas Card that Shar Pei Rescue Queensland put out last year. But they forgot the Tiara - LOL.
  5. Oh that's very kind of you! She's a smaller girl but definitely a handful, loves other dogs a little too much! We are still working on her doggy manners :) My "babies" are all in the elderly or geriatric category, with the youngest being 9. While some dogs are puppies all their lives, mine wouldn't be nearly enough fun for her - LOL. From what I've read posted by the Frenchie people on DOL, they are bundles of energy and real characters.
  6. I didn't answer the poll, because it can't be answered one or the other. The answer is that it depends on the dog and you know Jasper best. :) :) I also agree with giving consideration to all of Persephone's variables and add one other: how long is Jasper alone each day. Personally, I think that most dogs (and I agree there are definitely the exceptions) like to have another dog around.
  7. Thanks, LittleMiss. I was going to offer to look after her if she was a smaller breed. Frankly, Just Like Home, sounds wonderful and definitely worth checking out.
  8. I understand your point, Rosetta, but it is something I wouldn't be making a point of until an adoption was pretty well a fait accompli. Of course, if the rescuer's antennae are well developed, a time waster would have been pretty quickly sussed, but I would be a wee bit concerned that an adopter might go in first instead of last with the idea that, well we'll give it a try and if it doesn't work out we can always take "it" back. To have doubts is normal, but to have uppermost in one's mind that the dog can always be returned, doesn't strike me as a healthy attitude. A bit like saying to the marriage celebrant: if the marriage doesn't work we can always get divorced. :) :)
  9. Rosetta, any ethical rescue should have that as part of their adoption procedure. When I was rehoming, I always stressed that I didn't care how many years had passed, that if the people ever found themselves in a difficult situation, to ALWAYS let me know. Anyway, most of SOS dogs are in kennels and not in a home situation. Even tiny little dogs . . . . . .
  10. Go on Donatella. Although saved from the pound, this little girl is living in a kennel.
  11. Just switched on the iPad while I have a coffee and I saw W Sibs had started this thread. Truth be told, I cannot read it yet, because I know I will be reduced to tears. Charlie has left a lot of sorrowing people behind, but he has left a legacy too. A memory for many of us as to what love and dedication can do. Against all odds, Charlie reached and celebrated his 4th birthday. Very few dogs with his disease would have managed that. He was one in a million with wonderful owners, Vi and Richard. Skeeter and Emmy have a lot to live up to, with a lot of loving to give and get. God speed Charlie
  12. I have since bought small but heavy bowls for the dogs, but in the past I would do this for a couple of the littlies who would be chasing the bowl all around the floor. I have others who put their feet in the bowls. I have some photos somewhere ... will have to scroll through the "few" photos I have :D :D
  13. As much as I love them, mine would be useless. They'd stare at me with their tails down and expect me to summon something out of the air. On the other hand, I remember once when Danny found a dead new born possum and he was not going to let that prize go come what may. For survival? I guess a couple of Wolfhounds for catching prey and they sure would keep me warm at night. I just hope our hypothetical is a tropical island with coconut palms and bananas.
  14. OOh, I'll have to find my thread about Rover and his Belly Bands.  Wovey (as the little girl around the corner used to call him) has long since gone to god, but Belly Bands meant he could still sleep on the bed with me and the others.
  15. Good to get an update. He'll probably be strutting his stuff like a youngster in the hands of his new "Mummy".
  16. LOL. At least his back is straight. Thanks for the clarifcation, Diva. I used "elbow" in a previous post too. Funnily enough, I love looking at all the charts at the vet, but once I'm out the door, it is also out of my head. Kind of explains why you bagged the BOB Whippet, you had no idea what you were looking at, aren't familiar with anatomy or a breed standard LOL. Your bagging doesn't worry me - there have been plenty of other posts that express lack of support for several of the dogs. To my eyes, the dog was not attractive and as I have said, I was going on looks alone when I said Kirislins dogs would beat it hands down. A woman can have a perfect figure, but if she has a face like Syvester Stallone she isn't going to win Miss Universe is she?
  17. Oh, Persephone - We undertstand your pain.
  18. LOL. At least his back is straight. Thanks for the clarifcation, Diva. I used "elbow" in a previous post too. Funnily enough, I love looking at all the charts at the vet, but once I'm out the door, it is also out of my head.
  19. Oh Vi!! My deepest sympathies. You and Charlie fought so hard. Sleep well, Charlie. You were the best. Must add that the last photo is wonderful. To see you both together and Charlie looking like the spunky little fellow he was through to his very soul - well you couldn't want for anything better.
  20. But one of its elbows is almost touching the ground. what you call an elbow must be different to what I call an elbow. Probably, but this is what I mean.
