  1. I told Danny that he has two male siblings. He is thrilled that his good common sense in knowing that the couch is better than the exercise track is shared by others.
  2. Hmm, I think Stan and Dan were separated at birth. To get Danny to go further than around the block, I have to bribe him with treats. Didn't work today, though. The brakes went on and that was that.
  3. Yes, but they were already called that. They and their puppy had been surrendered to the pound. For some unaccountable reason, their puppy was called Bear. Another rescue took him. Vanilla became Nilla and Caramel remains Caramel. One of my big disappointments with regards to name is that I rescued a little Pomeranian a couple of years ago and called her Oona. Always loved that name and had waited years for the right dog to come along. Her new owners called her Frou Frou . It's their prerogative
  4. Do you want the whole 15 (10 who have crossed The 'Bridge) and the 5 who are still here? Lots of fosters too, most of whom kept the names I gave them - LOL.
  5. That is very funny. Stan obviously has influence with THAT council.
  6. With regard to the situation where Maltese and crosses thereof, became the most dumped dogs, one of the things that is never talked about with regard to SWF, particularly Maltese, is the necessity for constant grooming. I believe that Maltese (and other breeds) should come with that warning. Some of the SWF that end up in pounds and shelters are unbelievably matted and, consequently, would be in awful pain due to urine burns, twisted hair pulling is like being burned, terrible ulcers under the eyes where the hair is matted with eye discharge. OMG it is just awful. With that off my chest . . . . . . YvonneM and Jules, I was 48, single and working long hours when I adopted my first dogs never having owned a puppy or even had a pet since the age of 13. LOL. Because I worked long hours, there was no way in the world that I was going to have a puppy and leave him or her alone through the day. How did I solve that: well I adopted two of course   . I took two weeks holiday from the day they came to live with me and when I had to go back to work, I employed a dog walker/minder to visit them in the middle of the day and she would have her lunch while she played with them or just let them crawl all over her or nap or whatever it was they wanted to do. She would leave me little notes (which I still have nearly 20 years later) telling me what they did. Nammu and Calypso came from different breeders because I wanted a girl and a boy. Yes, I was a nervous wreck, terrified I would do the wrong thing - they were so small and precious. Sadly it turned out that Calypso had a malformed heart and she died at the age of 3 and a half. Broke my heart as I loved her to distraction. So there is your solution, YvonneM! Get two! Don't be put off by people who say you "shouldn't" have two puppies at the same time as you can't devote the time to them. I used to take my two to training together, and I will admit that I wasn't very successful, but then I was really only doing it for socialisation and fun. I loved having two dogs together and, let's face it, there are two of you. Walking them was a cinch and I used to take them to off leash parks (watching like an eagle of course) where they were as happy as you could want little dogs to be. ETA: One of the things that really surprised me was the amount of attention my dogs received when I was out an about with them. They were very lovely, but the first time I was stopped and asked if I would sell them, I was rended speechless . I became used to it and once was offered a couple of thousand for Calyspo. I also learned that they were in the top 5 of stolen breeds, so I was paranoid about that. Had bolts on back fence gates, side gate and even front gate until I started getting huge electricity bills because my metre couldn't be read   .
  7. LOL. Some of the dogs are so relaxed. What that you there with "The Spotted Devil"?
  8. OMG   Had to have another look at the pix of this lovely boy and just noticed the tongue peeking out in his first "now" photograph.
  9. Myrtie used to leave the room with her tail down looking extremely offended if anyone, ahem, passed wind.  She gets quite upset if I have a coughing fit and if I'm on the couch or in bed, she jumps down and leaves the room.
  10. Yes, the Black Hawke kibble is tiny. And, yes, I'm going to place an order first thing Monday (deliveries to my area are Tuesdays) and will ask him about smaller packs. Just thawing out the first of the beef mince so I will be interested to see how they all like that. To be honest, it looks a better quality than I usually get.
  11. Have read the product sheet more carefully, now, and see that it is a dry food; I was incorrectly reading it as a supplement. I wonder if he would give me a sample sized pack as I do like them to have a bit of dry. I will ask. (I tried Black Hawke, but found it gave the dogs very sloppy poos and even diarrhoea. . Poor Bunter had to go under the hose one day this week after a walk, at least his rear end did. He was not a happy sausage . ) Regarding the chicken: They don't appear to have just the plain minced chicken frames - it is either Chicken Complete or Chicken & Spinach Mince. This latter comes in 12 x 1kg carton which is much too much for me so I will put Chicken Complete in my order.
  12. Kenz Danny is a digger but not on a hard surface. As they sleep on mybed, I generally toss around a few throws so they have something to arrange to their liking and I can keep my bedclothes the way I like them   In my last house where for a garden I had lots of pot plants, he'd come in with dirt on his nose and I'd know he'd been trying to bury something in a pot.
  13. "Did someone say Quirky?" she wonders as she watches Danny madly hump his bed . This is becoming an after dinner ritual. Jeune gets very excited too, jumping around him, examining his penis, jumping back with some little squeals. Oh god, I should have a video camera. Can only larf.
  14. Update: I will be putting in another order, Stans Mum, and trying the chicken this time. I will be adventurous and order for a few weeks. Even Gussy is enjoying the Kangaroo Mince and if you have ventured into Cat Chat you will know how concerned I am about trying to keep her weight up. As K'roo Mince is low in calories, I will be trying her with the beef. The dogs seems to be enjoying it. Just so easy to have it delivered to my doorstep and even with the delivery charge, it is not as expensive as the other place. Not that that is really a consideration: all I want is good quality that my dogs and Gussy enjoy. Have you ever tried their Rice Complete High Protein as I'm tempted to give that a try as well. All the Moochers are senior and geriatric.
  15. Go Teddy . Little cotton sock gone and ribs nicely coved Does he know that Aldi and Struppie are dogs, do y' think ?  Well done, rescue team.
  16. Roo jerky ?? Cut his normal meal in half and make up with vegetables.
  17. Dinner time is getting a bit better now that there isn't a breakfast time - LOL. Just a snack so the are very ready for their dinner. Working so far, couple of hiccups, but generally seems to have worked well. As for going to the potty standing on her front legs, she has started doing that with #2 as well when we are out walking. Because she prefers to walk behind me (feet are VERY scary things you know), I quite often don't know she is going until there is a bit of a pull back on her lead . All my dogs have their extremely idiosyncratic walking behaviours and positions ..... poor things need a saint for a mother and I sure ain't that. :D I liken their positions to the positions on a clock: Danny and Bunter walk at 3o'clock but jockying for position to be closest to me. They are walked on short leads, because if they are longer, they get tangled because they have to be close to me. If Bunter's legs, touch the lead, he stops dead and won't walk on until I have removed the offending lead. Myrtie doesn't know the clock exists and strides out ahead leading the way. Should have called her Scout - LOL. Tamar walks at 7o'clock hour hand Jeune walks a 7o'clock minute hand. Jeune always has to be as far out as the lead will allow and beyond any of the other dogs as they move around sniffing and peeing. I have tried all different lengths of lead with Jeune and if I try to bring her closer and make her walk faster, I end up dragging her. Nothing and no amount of cajoling or treats have ever made her change her walking habit. The longest I went once, in terms of shorter lead and walking at a natural pace, was 20 minutes, virtually dragging her the whole way. As the walk is for their enjoyment (they don't need the exercise, get enough at home), I have given in - LOL.
  18. Oh lordy, I think of starting a thread like this just about everyday. So many dogs, so many quirks. I think I'll just read others for the time being, otherwise I wouldn't know where to stop. I had to laugh at the dogs who "flea" their human. I don't have that. I think the funniest "quirky" at the moment is Myrtie. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/198210-miss-myrtie-has-joined-the-moochers-as-a-foster-baby/page__p__4600077__fromsearch__1#entry4600077
  19. I think we all to warm to a dog or a person who just gets on with it, despite the odds. Charlie was this sort of little dude ( :) thanks Sarasmum). He was supported by a wonderful couple who ensured he could make the most of his short, previous life. Vi, I hope you continue to regale us with updates of Em and Skeeter. Much love.
  20. I have 5. I have had up to eight, but that was when I was rescuing and rehoming. It doesn't happen overnight, LOL, creeps up!! I also understand what Rusty&biscuit is saying, but all the different dogs have their own little quirks and needs and you try to satisfy them all. Sometimes, I might walk just one or two together and it feels really strange . . . . . AND EASY !!
  21. It must have been such a fascinating experience not just seeing a movie being shot, but also actually participating.
