The Flood Dog That Miraculously Came Back To Life
Loving my Oldies replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
I agree. The dog isn't bloated and if you look just behind and to the right, there are stakes around a bush. I reckon he is in his own yard and has been having lots of fun in the mud.  -
Hence this thread about electric fences. Electric fences are not an option, unless you want the RSPCA on your door step Hence this thread about electric fences.

Makes me sick to think of it. They had rolls and rolls of it when I was at Bunnings today. Should be outlawed - LOL. Sorry KHM :).

This seems to be the most likely candidate at this stage.

Hence this thread about electric fences.

She did when she was younger. This is the neighbour's cat and post #4 will give you some idea why I won't be talking to them or the Council about him. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/246439-can-you-see-what-i-see/

1. Yes, I am aware of the roller tops for high walls and fences. 2. As T. says - such a system would not work in my place. 3. Considering most of the neighbourhood has seen me in the past walking the block with my cat following along behind, I have no right to nor intention of reporting any wandering cat to the Council. 4. Since becoming a venerable old lady, Gussy cat rarely leaves the front yard although she did join me on the footpath this evening while I was weeding. :D 5. Yes, I am well aware of the danger to our wildlife and believe that any new kitten should be brought up inside. Unfortunately, hell will freeze over and our wildlife will probably have disappeared by the time that happens. 6. That is not to say that change should not be attempted and legislated for. Microchipping was legislated in 1999. Nearly 14 years later, does anyone know the percentage of dogs and cats who end up in pounds are microchipped.

Thanks for that. I have discussed this in the Cat Forum, tried all sorts of different foods and strategies, hence now considering what appears to be the final option and that is how to keep Tippy out while maintaining good relations with neighbours and not harming any one or anything. :) :)

Please practice tolerance by noting that this thread was started for the purpose of asking people's advice and experience. :)

Aussie3, this thread is not about ranting, rather one for reasoned and polite advice. If you want to rant, do so by all means, but not here. Thank you .

Yes, that's what I was thinking of.

Just Loving Our Puppy To Bits ! :)
Loving my Oldies replied to julesluvscavs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have an indulgent chuckle at this  Lil Moonbeam is gorgeous, Jules, so striking and 'tis wonderful that she is giving you such joy. -
My replies in Bold Italics (hopefully - LOL) Thank you for your input, informative and helpful. :)

Thank you - this was the sort of input I was looking for :)

Yeah right! What a way to keep neighbourly relationships on an even keel. The woman just about went apeshit when I suggested Tippy might be the cause of several large throw-ups I found near my garage. (I knew the cat wasn't Gussy by the sort of "ingredients" in them . ) I will talk to the Council tomorrow about rules and regulations.

Not dog related, but thought there would be more experience of electric fencing in this forum. Across the street, down a few houses live people with a young cat who has been allowed to wander ever since he was a new kitten. My elderly cat lives mostly outside, through choice, and Tippy (the neighbour's cat) has been a regular visitor all his life and because my cat likes his company, I have never discouraged this. The problem is that Tippy eats all my cat's food. My cat is old and loses condition very easily. She is not a picky eater, but doesn't eat much at one sitting. I think a lot (maybe most ??) cats are like this. I have tried all sorts of strategies, feeding her small meals several times a day and I have tried keeping her in my bedroom (she has a cat flap so she can come and go) to ensure that she eats enough, but I have even found Tippy in the bedroom. I was thinking about putting an electric fencing system along the front of my house (I have just a small brick fence) and I think a few shocks would have Tippy well and truly educated to stay away. Are they legal in Sydney and do you think an electric fence would work in a case such as this?

After Making A Report To The Rspca...
Loving my Oldies replied to BlackJaq's topic in General Dog Discussion
I made a report some years ago. It was obvious that the RSPCA had done something because the dog I saw regularly was in better condition, but I wasn't kept UTD by the RSPCA. -
I'm glad to learn that, Panto. I worked for a large Sydney pound some years ago and all the coats that were made especially for the dogs, knitted and sewn and some really beautiful, were put up for sale in the veterinary hospital attached and rarely made it onto the bodies of the pound dogs . Luckily that place has had new management since then, so I don't know what happens these days.

In my experience (for myself and one of the dogs), you have to experiment with antihistamines to find the one which suits. For myself, I was recommended (after not much of a result from other brands) Aerius which I take because I have a very very itchy skin and can take one in the morning and another in the evening if I need it. For the dog who scratched a lot, I found that antihistamines didn't really help so I give him 1/2 cortisone every third day and that seems to have worked. Are you in a position at home to have a little pool. Lots of talk on DOL about clam shells. You'd need a shady spot of course because it would heat up through the day, or maybe use ice to keep it cool. Your poor baby, if must be awful for him and for you seeing him suffering. I hope you find a solution.

Oh she is absolutely gorgeous.

Board And Train Recommendation
Loving my Oldies replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Agree with this. Sad for the dogs really. What people like those you are dealing with, SSM, is that they are unwilling to accept that in most cases the person needs more training than the dog. They probably have the attitude that, if they see the dogs fighting, they let them go saying, "They'll sort it out." It must be very hard for you, but if you want to continue to try to help, maybe you will just have to start lecturing. Difficult I know. The only time I have seen B&T with my own eyes (an elderly neighbour being given as a retirement present a GSD puppy ) was an exercise in futility and the dog ended up be given to a car yard ETA: Nothing wrong with the dog, it was all the owner and the stupid people who gave him the poor dog. -
Oh dear - you can only laugh !!!  Sorry Pollywaffle. I've taken it all a bit off topic , but looking forward to hearing how Basil goes at the vets.

I just did a search on DOL Forums for valium, Jules. Lots of references. Might be worth your while to do a search. I was also thinking about your question as to mini fits. Valium is basically a muscle relaxant, so it could very well work.
