I thought it was a compliment, but then I gave up reading any Tralee's posts over one line, as generally it hurts my head to try to work out what he is saying, so I may be wrong and he may be indulging himself again. I hope not because not many people would have handled the situation Alyoscha was in as well as she did.

I think the OP is just trying to find ways to help make her dog comfortable. Saggy bellies can be very uncomfortable. :)

Congratulations, Alyosha. I certainly hope the older girl can follow through. The rangers seem pretty switched on as well. Hopefully everyone and the dog will start to have better lives, thanks to you. You have paid though in stress and fear, but shone through.

My biggest regret when I bought this house was that I didn't stick with my desire to have a family/rumpus style room which would be the main "hang out" room. I didn't want a dog room specifically, just a place where we could all be together. Mainly I wanted the dining and lounge room areas to be tidy, styled and with with minimum dog hair decorations. :laugh: I've tried to wean Jeune off the couch and recently went for 3 days, but she was so miserable, hanging around with her tail tucked in and looking totally lost and forlorn. Evently I gave in, covered the couch with a large blanket and she is happy again. Talk about a Prima Donna. Now who can I blame :D :D

No advice as my move was with several animals who didn't particularly care as long as I was around. However, I do feel for you because the needs and welfare of our animals is so important to us. Just give Casper lots of love and cuddles, which I am sure you will do as a matter of course :D . I hope the moved goes as smoothly as possible. Keep us informed.

As Haredown has said: highly dangerous and possibly lethal to leave these sorts of collars on. I don't like leaving collars of any sort on my dogs, but I bought those breakaway ones with their name and my phone number embroidered on them. I went through Personalised Pet. The collars were very reasonable with a huge range of colours.

Thanks for that. Mine are 17.5cm so there wouldn't be any point in trying the ones you have bought. I guess I'll have to get a lower bed :laugh: :laugh: Actually, I was thinking of having a ramp made, but it would have to fold like the stairs so I could push it under the bed through the day. I have a ramp outside for the dogs which works well so maybe they would transition easily to one in the bedroom. I just want to stop them jumping off which of course they do if they have to toilet through the night ...... or chase some imaginery beast in the back yard.

The whole situation is just so tragic and to apportion blame on fences seems a bit OTT to me, but as I have small dogs, I would never have them in the front yard without supervision. If I had a large dog, maybe I'd think differently, but the dog would have to be totally non-reactive to people or other dogs passing by as I would never allow a dog to,rush at fences and frighten walkers by. ETA: if I had a dog who was allowed into the front yard, the gate would have a lock on it during the times the dog was there ... for the dog's safety.

What a terrifying experience, Alyosha. I hope you are feeling a little less shaken this morning, but these sorts of events can take a bit of getting over. I am with the others who say the attack should be reported, but feel the people need to be advised that this is going to happen - a highly uncomfortable situation for you to be in Agree, Diva. Poor dogs are not immune from the stresses that some families inflict on themselves.

Horrible and frightening for everyone involved - even the witnesses. Hugs to you. I hope everyone is alright. So sad.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread, but I've said it before: I think there are too many subforums on DOL. So many informative and intelligent threads get missed.

I hope you have had a second opinion. Luxating patellas are the most over operated on "condition". A vet can just snap the knee caps out and in on small and young dogs and the owner is told: OH luxating patellas, the dog will be crippled, he needs an operation !!! Please don't operate unless it is absolutely needed ETA: Then of course if the operate IS needed, go to a specialist. I would recommend SASH at North Ryde or ARH at Homebush.

I have a set of stairs similar to those, but the width of the stairs compared with angle (steepness) stops the dogs from going down them and so they are still jumping down from the bed which is far from ideal at their advanced ages I wonder if you would be kind enough to measure the width of the stairs please, kiwigirl?

I've never heard of them, but wish every road and traveller had them. Our road kill tally is horrendous

Biker girl, google Amanda de Warren. She is based in Queensland but does quite a bit of interstate travel. I had a phone "consultation" a couple of years ago and found her very intuitive and empathetic. Whatever it is, I hope you find answers and solutions.
