  1. Oh dear, please have a look at the thread called "Basket of Puppies".
  2. Agree. Particularly the point made about the DOL bubble. The reality is that the show is a representation of public opinion. Why not take an opportunity to influence that opinion? I hope a rescue or breeder grabs the opportunity and that the producer works a way in for some subtle promotion. Let me stress that I am not bagging Lorem in the slightest; on the contrary, I am very glad this issue has been raised. However, I am stating very strongly that I think the idea stinks LOL and I think the above posts are the naive ones :). Of course, I understand what you are saying, but the thing is to try to influence or educate you have to pick your arena. A show which cares only for ratings and has a presenter who doesn't seem to have much control over herself and just plays everything for laughs is not the place. Caveat: I am basing this on having seen but one short snippet of one show. But because I watch The Biggest Loser which is on before Can of Worms, I do see advertisements so there may have been a more considered approach to some issues, but going on some of the posts here from people who have seen more of it than it have, it doesn't seem so. The DOL Bubble?? I have stated before in regards to Rescue that some people think everything that is happening in Rescue is on DOL when nothing can be further from the truth. However, this forum has thousands of members, many of whom register and are never seen again. But there are many who read and never post. I don't think DOL is a bubble.
  3. Fingers crossed indeed. I'll keep watching the other thread. (Still worthwhile to have a look at TTouch :D )
  4. All the jeep ads are strange LOL.
  5. That's right, Kirislin. I was thinking of the photo you posted last night as I lay in bed scratching and stroking my cat, Gussy. My thoughts then wandered to Tellington Touch in general and a recalled reading that Linda started out on horses. And then I thought about your Pagan and wondered whether TTouch might help with that dreadful abscess. If your friend is not in your area any more, just google to find a horse practitioner.
  6. What a cutie. Good ole RSPCA. "All creatures great and small" ..... providing they come with a donation. No authority! What a load of shite.
  7. I just hope the whole idea is thrown out. She should not be around animals of any sort. I don't even know her name LOL.
  8. OMG! What a tool. She needs counselling.
  9. Did you read my post? The presenter was cracking up at the thought of a woman having her guide dog killed and joining her in her coffin. She was leading the audience and team in thinking it was hilarious.
  10. There are so many wonderful and uplifting stories in this thread. I really salute all the people and their dogs who do this vital "work".
  11. Having seen but a snippet of one show, there is no way in the world that I would be letting that woman, her audience or her guests within a 100 yards of any puppies (or dogs) I had responsibility for. Perhaps you can ask your producer friend to call me - LOL. Funnily enough, I haven't been able to get it out of my mind and was considering writing to the producers, but I figured I would be ignored or fobbed off as some dour old spoil sport. I can still see clear as day, the audience literally rocking back and forth in their chairs laughing their heads off. What chance do we have for a more caring and decent society when these are the sorts of programs that are being pushed.
  12. If I was a friend of the producer I would be hitting her around the ears with a very large stick preferably studded with nails. Because it followed on from The Biggest Loser, I decided to watch it one night and hey, guess what, they were asking questions about what to do with animals when you don't want them any more or die. Gosh, what a funny topic, everyone was laughing hysterically before the first question was asked. The story from the UK of the Guide Dog who was killed because the owner requested that in her will came up. [see thread in the "in the news" forum.] Well, I didn't know until I watched this program, but that a really really funny story. Ha ha ha Guide Dog killed because owner asked for it in her will. Ho ho ho, ha ha ha. Well it must have been because the ghastly presenter was laughing her head off and the audience was rocking. Disgusting.
  13. PAWS has a page on its website for private rehomings. I haven't looked at it for a long time, but I think it is just a place for people to expose their dogs, PAWS doesn't get involved. Could have changed; don't know without checking.
  14. K, have a google for Tellington T Touch.
  15. Allerzeit, who is the dog with the tennis ball.
  16. Oh I simply have to respond to this post with a story of my own. I used to walk my dogs in a park in Leichhardt ( can't recall the name unless I go to the street directory, but a lot of people will know it - the one along the canal). Lots and lots of off leash dogs and, luckily, at least when I went there, there weren't any fights or attacks. One day, I was walking towards the exit with my five (all off leash - gosh how great it was) and there were lots and lots of little dogs all milling around and having a wonderful time. Up strolled this huge black and tan dog and wandered right into the middle of all these little dogs. No one one batted an eyelid or ran in panic to scoop up their little ones. And why? I believe it was because this huge black and tan female Rotty had the most glorious tail which was wagging happily and because her body language was so much more readable, we could all see that she was happy, relaxed and friendly.
  17. Yeah for Rotties. LOL. Mita about a thousand years ago, I worked for the Commonwealth Games Foundation when they were held in Brisbane in 1982. My boss was the Marketing Manager and our department was responsible for all the Concessions, Games Souvenirs, Sponsors, Product, Media concessions, etc etc etc --- huge job. Many sponsors of product acknowledged that they weren't involved necessarily to make money, but rather they were there for exposure and as such they edged out their competition. Important lesson.
  18. I used to write heaps of letters and submissions to Councils and private businesses. Never got anywhere. Just had to continue the mounting of stalls at council days and the like. Exhausting work and very little money made, but I used to rationalise that these sorts of activities were more for exposure than fund raising. The explosion of social media has certainly helped in awareness, but it has its downside too in that the efforts of people are spread thinly instead of organisations pooling their resources, knowledge and passion. Too many people doing a bit here and a bit there instead of working together for impact and results.
  19. You are a cruel woman, Panto. Posting a photo of Pepper, who would be a perfect addition to my household. Coats look great. Hard and exhausting work volunteering time and effort for the poundies, but supremely rewarding. Well done.
  20. Pardon me while I try to stop laughing before I start crying. Nice thought, Loreley, but it has taken decades of hard work by dedicated people to get some pounds to desex their dogs and cats prior to adoption. Just think of the money and lives that would have been saved had that been brought in years ago. I saw a great car sticker the other day: Dogs can't vote Dog lovers can.
  21. Isn't RADAR down that way? Have a look on the PetRescue site; there is a list of all the rescuers and rescue groups. If you foster for an ethical and reputable group all legalities should be taken care of by them.
  22. Dropped in to Sew Make Create with a couple of bags of towels and trackies. Met Pepper - even more gorgeous than her poster. Unfortunately, she was on a lead and being very closely monitored. I did offer to take her for a walk and that kind kind offer was declined. Why, I ask. Do I look like a dognapper   Both lovely Pantos were there: two legged one and four legged one. A large contingent of trackie cutters was hard at it when I left, so there are going to be some very warm and happy pound pets before too long. Didn't meet any DOLers, but K9Angel had obviously worked very hard to get supplies of her delicious hand made doggy treats available.
  23. In the case of May you mentioned in your post, Mita, Hawkesbury pound allowed a rescuer come in to assess her. If other shelters worked with rescuers and volunteers like Nic, they'd all be better places. The dog in Logan Pound may have had health issues that to allow her to continue would have been cruel. However, if this article is totally correct, they are simply parroting policy without any consideration for the people who really care and are entitled to a bit more than spiel. These organisations are paid out of our taxes and I believe we need better explanations of why actions are taken instead of what has appeared in this article.
  24. I am not commenting on this case specifically, Mita, and unless one was there, I don't believe one can. However, as I mentioned in another thread, sometimes people whom we trust to be doing so are not acting in an animal's best interest. More so they are sometimes acting in their own interests and motivated sometimes out of spite and self promotion. Sad but true. I think a lot of people who have been involved with pounds and rescue organisations would, if they were being honest, agree with that. I have had experiences with pounds such as Renbury who will let dogs go to people they know will do everything in their power to ensure the dog's best interests are met. Most of these dogs would never ever pass muster or be given a chance at other places. But because Renbury people know the rescuers and care about the dogs who come into their facility, these dogs are given a chance to live out their lives in comfort, vet treated, full tummies and lots of love. Sadly, I have seen decisions made by vets working for shelters which horrify me. One such is that a vet assessed a little Pomeranian as having "the worse case of luxating patella" she'd ever seen and would only pass her for rescue if she was operated on immediately. That dog not have luxating patella, but worse in terms of a veterinary diagnosis, the dog's knees were fused, probably from birth. She was as happy a dog you'd want to find, no pain, no problem, just a funny walk. I'm afraid my experiences over the years have made me very cynical.
  25. Here we go. Media beat up. Frankly, I find it hard to not get passionate about someone being bailed up by several large dogs. Hard to imagine a much more terrifying situation. What a shame the man wasn't mauled to death, then maybe it would be worth getting a bit heated and passionate about it, hey? Why don't you try it and see how you fare. Good point but not admissible in Court based on the evidence presented here. It could have been set up. Maybe he hurt his arm somewhere else, knew the dogs, and is stiching someone up to pay the costs. Huh
