Jack Russell Boy Needs A New Home...
Loving my Oldies replied to iggy mum's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Devastated to learn that little Bobbie's good life was so short. Deepest condolences to you and your family, Rascal. Such a hard decision for you to have had to made when all you wanted to do was to give this darling little dog a better life. It is shattering when this sort of things happens and you do need to give yourself some time to heal your hurting heart. Iggymum, don't give yourself a hard time, either. Anyone in rescue knows the odds are that tragedy will strike at some time and it is bloody terrible when it does. I am sure that all Rascal feels towards you is gratitude that between the two of you Bobbie's last weeks were earthly heaven before he crossed the bridge. Rest well, dear little dog. -
When Are You Too Sick To Have Dogs?

And you are an exemplary example of recognising that your health considerations dictate what you can provide for your pet. Well done. And you have family help which Puddles' lady doesn't have. -
Anyone Every Used A Dog Poo Composter?
Loving my Oldies replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was thinking about this thread as I walked my dogs and picked up other dogs' poos left by people who seem to think they are above picking up after their dogs . If you don't have enough soil, perhaps just buy a bag of the cheapest mulch you can find any gardening centre and sprinkle a bit of that on top. The only creatures digging holes in my yard and then only out the front where the dogs aren't on the lose are bandicoots  . Hippo, I wish you lived next door to me: I have so much garden waste that I could have 1/2 dozen compost heaps on the go at once I finally gave in recently and ordered another council green bin. -

Soil. If the dogs dig, a brick. Put the holes near the fence so you can't trip in them. -
how frightening. I hope he leaves you alone now. OMG a LITTLE violent???? You guys hadn't been seeing each other very long, if he does that that soon into a realtionship what the hell is he prepared to down the track???? Thank goodness you got away this early. ANd I do now hope he leaves you alone and I really hope he realises exactly what he did - although experience tells me he won't. There is no need for you to feel embaressed how on earth were you to know until he did that? bloddy arse!!! OOOhh I am cross now. Having said that I am very glad youa re safe and you have your lovely little girl to cuddle. I'm gobsmacked that you think someone who threw you across the room is "a little violent". God knows what will happen to the next woman he dates. He should have been reported immediately. That is assault.

When Are You Too Sick To Have Dogs?

And therein lies the biggest problem. She is very sick at a very young age and maybe feels a sense of entitlement because of it and just assumes that people should and will help . Who knows? Sad for her and sad for the dogs. -

I doubt it :) . You'd have to have an awful lot of poo and a very little bit of soil. -

If Bunter poos on the deck, I sometimes do that because I'm not feeling energetic enough to walk downstairs, get the poo pan and trowel and take it down the back to the compost heap. I do feel guilty when I do that because it is sheer laziness on my part. You wouldn't want to do that with dogs much bigger than mine though and if you had several dogs. Best dug into the soil. -

Whenever the subject comes up, I say more or less the same thing. Unfortunately, it is too easy. Only something difficult works LOL LOL. It seems that people are so removed from the earth these days that they don't understanding how waste just breaks down. Someone even suggested once that, because I just dig my dogs' waste into the garden, that my place must stink. -

Yet another stupid, money wasting, polluting product to fool people into thinking they are helping the planet Doesn't matter how small your garden is, dig the poo into it. It breaks down so quickly, you'll never run out of space unless you have about 10 dogs in a 2sq.m. back yard and never take them walking. A bucket with soil in it would work as well. -
When Are You Too Sick To Have Dogs?

It certainly does, and the ones who are going to suffer most are the animals. Naturally we all feel compassion for a young woman who has such dire health problems, but somehow she has to wake up to the fact that the best thing she can do for her animals is to rehome them. How can you not have time for a cat. She is obviously in deep deep denial. -
Gnarla's Story

To the DOLers who are offering assistance for Bazza. Very heartwarming and it would be so good if "nasties" could be ruled out for the little fella. -
Quality Pet Food Supplier Hornsby, Hills Area
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
God know what was happening in Sydney today, but stupidly, I decided to drive down to Sydenham for dog meat supplies. Took me 2 hours . At one stage, seeing the traffic crawling on Parramatta Road, I nearly turned around to go home, but I'm glad I didn't. When I got there, the shelves were practically empty and my heart sank. Yep, closing down and today was their last day I am so sad for them: they were trying to provide a quality product, no additives, no fillers, etc etc all processed on the spot, but can't compete with processed products on the supermarkets shelves or the cheap imports from China with god knows what in them. These are my words, by the way, the owner of the business didn't say that. The man was just so despondent, I was nearly in tears myself. Because I was in the area, I dropped into the Castle Hill PetBarn the other day looking for VAN Complete and nearly fell off my feet when I saw it. I haven't been there for years and it is about 4 times the size it used to be. Just a little bit of fresh food in the freezers up the back - really sad to see. -

Plenty in Sydney, but Chezal is back of beyond west of Wagga Wagga. -
I used to have that when I was doing a lot of fostering. Didn't do anything to stop the dogs lifting their legs, but nearly killed me

Can't help you. Yesterday, I watched (fascinated and curious admittedly) while Bunter raced downstairs to wee and then raced upstairs to poop on the deck I have cheap mats from Bunnings on the deck at the doorways and once they have been pee'd on, no matter how much I wash/hose/tea tree spray/other spray/leave in baking sunshine, one of the dogs will continually pee on that mat. I don't bother to clean them now on the few occasions it happens. They just get binned. Bit different with a wool run though. You may end up getting the smell out in terms of the human nose, but I doubt you'll ever succeed in disguising it from the doggy nose.

When Are You Too Sick To Have Dogs?
Loving my Oldies replied to puddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
Persephone said it all so much better than I. I cannot imagine life without my dogs, but if I can't give a life to my dogs, then I shouldn't have them. Cats can give so much love and comfort - not much beats a soft and squishy cat wrapped around your head at night purring to bring the roof down. This poor lady thought of the lab as becoming an assistance dog, but apparently without any understanding of the huge amount of training that goes into that. Doctors or social workers or the RSPCA need to be brought in to assist in resolving a very sad situation. -
Do a search on DOL member Ambervale and then search for her posts. Quite a few years ago, now, but the threads are still there.

I think the woman's situation is very sad. I can also totally understand Puddles' situation as well. The woman needs to take responsibility for herself and for those creatures who have no say in the matter. Any course of action depends on whether the woman is going to get well or whether her health issues are incurable and she is just going to deteriorate until she needs to go into care. As she already has a pacemaker, it would appear that the second scenario is what is going to eventually happen. Although I understand the difficulties of living in a small town, but in your position, Puddles, I would be having a chat to her doctor. Obviously you want to help and you already have, but you can only do much for people who won't recognise their limitations and/or expect others to pick up the slack. -
Leo and his amazing family often are in my thoughts - the desperate rush to save him and then save his life. Still have shivers up my spine. Ambervale!! What a woman. And her son going through that radical operation on his back. Talk about everyday, unsung heros. They are the epitome of that.
