My Human Family
Loving my Oldies replied to gwp4me's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I had a look at their FB page and from that looked up the website of an organisation called Starfish Animal Resue in Baulkham Hills. Under "Our Partners" are all USA centres. I was trying to find out who started/runs the organisation Anyone know anything about them? -

Could You Be Your Dog's 'heart Person'?
Loving my Oldies replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
I believe the same about my dogs. I have always said that provided they were given the same love and attention they get from me they would be happy. But that doesn't mean they don't feel love or are incapable of feeling it. Sure, they don't lie down at night with a big sigh and think, "Gee I love my mummy," because they "speak" dog not English or whatever the language of the person is. Their love (and lots of other emotions .... virtually all you could think of) is expressed in ways other than words and often, I think, so much better than humans do. And that is the way it should be  -

Really? Get over it and stop picking a fight. So asking for where the scientific data is and wanting to clarify a point is picking a fight? Frankly, I find quite laughable (in a sad sort of way) the statements that some people make and most of the time couldn't care less. But when they profess to have it on scientific evidence and then can't produce that evidence, well sure you have to wonder? And when they say dogs are incapable of love and then say "Boof loves....." But, if that is picking a fight, well so be it. -

I think we know what Anthropomorphism is, Anne. As I said, it is long time since saying someone is "guilty" of anthropomorphism is a put down. If human beings consider themselves a higher intelligence, they should have the intelligence to know that there are more things they don't understand than they do. -

I don't see why you should be confused. You said that it is a scientific fact that dogs don't have complex emotions. If you are going to state something categorically, you shouldn't get tetchy because someone asks you to show you where those scientific reports are. -

Hang on. I thought you just said dogs weren't capable of feeling love. I think just about any one who had worked with dogs with an open mind would disagree with you. It is a long time since labelling someone anthropomorphic has been seen as a put down. -
Yes, they were all pretty well just very tired and sleepy dogs and cats..... the last one wasn't very nice at all, poor dog.

Whilst I don't believe it is necessarily a recipe for disaster, management of a "situation" can be extremely stressful. It requires constant vigilance 24/7 and this in itself can be exhausting. Being on the alert all the time ...... too difficult. You are aleady in a stressful situation, you are planning on bringing in a stranger to your settled and ordered life. That in itself is enough to handle. Keep looking for a housemate who will blend in with you. There is going to have to be many adjustments on all sides, the last thing you need to be worried about is whether dogs will get along. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.

So you don't believe dogs have an ability to love their people? They are just being pragmatic and self serving? -

Loving my Oldies replied to Kirislin's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Kirislin is absolutely the best Have you set up a camp bed alongside Widget yet, K? They are totally gorgeous and in those last photos of Widget before the births, she looks like a bronze statue. What a stunner of a girl. I'm very sad the second little girl didn't make it. Hard to believe that huge bulge contained just 4 puppies. -

That has been in my head all day. The horror of being in the centre of a dog attack resulting in the death of a tiny child. In space of a few minutes, so many lives changed and damaged forever. -
Full story please,
-
I reckon Miss Porky should stay with your mum and her dog and become Slimmer of the Year.

These are points that are so often glossed over or not even considered when attacks are spoken of. The ongoing consequences can be life altering ..... for the worse. In this case, what if the man has a trade? It will be a long time before (if ever) he has proper use of his hand again.
-
Haven't got a clue who this fellow is, but those with plenty of money, whether educated or not, often think they are above the law.

Sadly I don't find this a funny story at all and all the "balls" references pretty banal. Why did the little dog have to be killed?
