  1. Good find . I don't usually look at kennel sites because I don't use them, but as with you Persephone, soothie's problem interests and concerns me so I did look and was interested to read this: Special care to geriatric guests or guests with special medical needs such as diabetes, advanced arthritis, epilepsy etc. In soothie's situation, I would definitely be checking it out.
  2.  It has been ages since I've requested a doggie bag, because a lot of places won't do it anymore. However, when my friend put in her order, she said to the waitress that it would probably be too much and it was the waitress who suggeted a doggy bag. So when I saw all the chicken left . . . . . . . well my dogs just loved it.
  3. I haven't checked prices at Oveds, but I will. I've been using Priceless Pets for years and have generally found them to be the cheapest. Always worth rechecking. Order is shipped immediately - very good service. www.pricelesspets.com.au
  4. I've just thought of someone who may be able to help you. Contact Rae at Rescued with Love. Her organision specialises in rescuing old and sick dogs and she may have someone who could take your little one for 4 weeks, or she may be able to recommend someone. Whatever you do, if you organise someone a fair way in advance of when you have to go away, make sure you have a back up plan as well. Arrangements can fall over at the last minute.
  5. Some rescuers used to send around emails letting others know of people they thought (and knew) were dodgy.
  6. Totally understandable. You've been through so much and need to consider your own health and well being.
  7. I think when we are rehoming animals, we have to assume that the targeted consumer doesn't know and I think we have recognise that most people don't know that they don't know - and this is absolutely not a criticism of anyone, just a recognition of the state of affairs. In the past decade and more, there have been huge changes to legislation and attitudes of pounds; added to that, the rescue world has burgeoned. So unless someone is involved in a fairly significant way, they really wouldn't have a clue as to all the requirements.
  8. Wow! Cream girl is a really lovely looking dog and, from what you say, the beauty goes right through her.
  9. Hope you are well supplied with tissues, Staffluv. Can't see Zip being around much longer.
  10. Little Gifts. Your mum thought she was doing the right thing. We humans do a lot of harm even with the best intentions.
  11. Wouldn't your pound be the RSPCA, LG? My niece is a foster carer of kittens for the RSPCA. Well, she used to be, but haven't heard in the past couple of years whether she still does it. But as they were caught before they became feral or contracted cat flue, I would imagine their prospects would be fairly good. I hope so. In your situation, wanting the best for Irish and her kittens, I'd be visiting the pound in person.
  12. It is a great poster, Staffyluv, and really shows how much you care for Zip. I'd just add a bit in the certificate para about Ziggy wasn't go to let her have all the limelight ..... or something along those lines. Beautiful dogs.
  13.  It was Hankdog. Luckily I had my iPad and could show the waitress photographs to prove that it was for doggies and not me - I'm a vegetarian.
  14. I had to go into the city today and when that happens I always have lunch with one of my buddies from work (ex work). My friend ordered a Chicken Caesar salad which was huge. She ate all the salad and left the croutons and chicken. My guilt (silly I know) at leaving the dogs for about 7 hours has been considerably assauged by being able to give them heaps of chicken and crouton treats.
  15. I checked the Hawkesbury website and the little Pom is available for adoption from today. Hopefully she will be adopted by a someone who can give her all the love and care she needs.
  16. Sure does look easy. Check you oil spray though for nasties. :D
  17. Yes, I am follower too and then I can walk away from the computer with a big smile on my face and dreams of visiting SA one day
  18. If the only treats available when you are shopping are made overseas, why give them at all? A few years ago, Urban Animal magazine had an article on treats and the bit I particularly recall was about rawhide chews. The amount and types of chemicals used to produce those was horrifying. The dogs I had at the time loved them, but after I read that article, they sure as hell didn't get them again. Walking through the pet food aisles at my local supermarket and seeing all the crap that is on sale is enough to give me heart failure, god knows what those products are doing to our animals. They are also putting the small producers out of business. I was so happy over the years to be able to source fresh meat and dried products produced here in Sydney. But guess what's happened to them? Yep, had to fold as just could not compete with the big supermarkets which import huge quantities of highly questionable and downright dangerous products from overseas.
  19. Only a little bit of your post quoted, Mita, because the rose coloured glasses bit is spot on and the other? Well I'm glad you said "generally" because there were huge problems in society that were hidden and not discussed. Definitely better times for dogs though.
  20. No way would I feed my dogs treats or chews or jerky or anything like that made in China. FFS: so many factories don't give a ratz about what they give to human beings. You think they are going to care about animals?
  21. Agree with this. Most dogs that have lunged at me have been on lead. I'd rather come across an in control dog off lead than an on lead out of control dog. They are probably just desperate to be a dog and say hello and constantly being pulled back makes them think there is something very wrong going on and they need to do something about it. Because of the way we live, people think a dog on a lead is a natural thing. It isn't, so the dogs pay for it in terms of lack of training and, hence, understanding. How many times has anyone here heard, "My dog is hopeless on a lead."? People again. We can't blame the dogs all the time. And then, of course, there are those who have been very evident in this thread who think laws don't apply to them because they and their dogs are perfect
