  1. OMG. I agree. The woman is a nut case and the police need to visit her and give her a good talking to.
  2. I've been stewing over this and was reluctant to respond while angry, however I still am :D . What a load of BSH. How many Shiba Inus can one vet have on their books who have had eye surgery - FFS? How difficult would it be to take a few more details from you and look up their records. Privacy be damned. A dog's life is at stake and they don't need to pass on any details to you in any case. I totally get that veterinary surgies can be very very busy places, but their reaction is ridiculous and pompous. I hope the photo proves helpful. ETA: I note the dog is now safe with ABR thank goodness.
  3. This is a problem, of course. Others see you with your dogs and think: Wow, aren't you lucky! Such happy and beautifully behaved dogs. They think the dogs were born that way and, as you say, cannot see or understand that you have put in all the groundwork to make the dogs that way. In terms of trying to steer her away from an unsuitable (for her) breed, I guess you just have to go on ad nauseum about how dogs become like Gus only through training training training ..... and an understanding by the owner of their own capabilities and commitment to their dog and an understanding of the breed.
  4. If you mean the woman making the complaints, then I agree. Thats a bit extreme isnt it? What if its not the OPs dog being the issue? What's extreme about it? Huh - are you serious. Any operation is extreme even if even if necessary. The woman is a nutter and people are seriously suggesting debarking of an innocent dog. So many lives are ruined by nutcases. We all live too close together. I cannot believe this post is serious.
  5. Hmmm - wonder how Aunty Margaret is going to part with that one :) :)
  6. What a beautiful little dog, Steph M. I didn't see the original title - d'ya reckon she has a bit of cattle dog there? She'll keep you on your toes that's for sure.
  7. The photo in Post #1 is just extraordinary. All the different lumps and bumbs and wrinkles on the G !! Above his eyes looks like ripples in the sand dunes. What amazing creatures they are.
  8. That dog has seriously strange ears, but I like the bow.
  9. I have to agree with this. If you don't have to take the 5 weeks off, I'd be inclined to cut it down to a maximum of two and do as you previously intended, go out for a few hours at a time at irregular times and intervals. I hope the split was not too painful, but I am sure pup will be a big comfort. Pups are not interested in splitting - they will love you whether or not you put the garbage out.
  10. She has Puggie eyes - or maybe that is just shock at finding herself in a pound. She sure is gorgeous and, as you say, somneone has themselves a beauty.
  11. Exactly this....I couldn't have said it better Gosh, as those above have said. . A devastating decision to have arrived at. There are posters in this thread who understand totally. Sometimes, our loved ones are just too damaged and have too many demons for whatever reasons we don't know and, in all conscience and love, we have to release them. My heart goes out to you, Jelly. One of the very top photos.
  12. Hoping that Lily is much better today and that your dad can get some more information from the usual vet when he returns. He has a lot on his plate caring for your mum too. So heaps of cyber best wishes for you and your family.
  13. It depends on the size of the organisation, of course, but frankly having seen and used some systems, I often feel that a simple excel document does the trick. By using the simple mail merge system, you can generate all sorts of specific information required and instead of having to move from screen to screen, you have all the information in front of you from one document.
  14. She ordered them so I could have them for my dogs . . . . . . . hence the title of the post. Oh dear.
  15. All dogs should have a backyard like that one . The only thing missing was another dog.
  16. I was really only joking. I am home with them virtually all day and every day and they generally get two walks a day. My post was simply along the lines of just having a chat to other dog people .
  17. Good find . I don't usually look at kennel sites because I don't use them, but as with you Persephone, soothie's problem interests and concerns me so I did look and was interested to read this: Special care to geriatric guests or guests with special medical needs such as diabetes, advanced arthritis, epilepsy etc. In soothie's situation, I would definitely be checking it out.
  18.  It has been ages since I've requested a doggie bag, because a lot of places won't do it anymore. However, when my friend put in her order, she said to the waitress that it would probably be too much and it was the waitress who suggeted a doggy bag. So when I saw all the chicken left . . . . . . . well my dogs just loved it.
  19. I haven't checked prices at Oveds, but I will. I've been using Priceless Pets for years and have generally found them to be the cheapest. Always worth rechecking. Order is shipped immediately - very good service. www.pricelesspets.com.au
  20. I've just thought of someone who may be able to help you. Contact Rae at Rescued with Love. Her organision specialises in rescuing old and sick dogs and she may have someone who could take your little one for 4 weeks, or she may be able to recommend someone. Whatever you do, if you organise someone a fair way in advance of when you have to go away, make sure you have a back up plan as well. Arrangements can fall over at the last minute.
  21. Some rescuers used to send around emails letting others know of people they thought (and knew) were dodgy.
  22. Totally understandable. You've been through so much and need to consider your own health and well being.
