  1. I don't disagree with this, Santo66. You asked what a Vet Chain offered anyone -- I was merely listing a few of the things that some people would find attractive. Personally, I wouldn't touch a francise with a 40ft pole, but there are those who would see it as an answer to having their own business and, of course, there would be those who are blown away by the sales spiel and don't have the desire or ability to look at the "small print" very very carefully.
  2. Lots .... on paper. Why does any franchising organisation exist? Not everyone is cut out to be a business man or woman, but they might want to, ostensibly, run their own business and be self-employed. Of course, it depends on the franchise operation, but they generally provide advertising, sometimes an existing clientele, business training, commercial support, backup, etc etc etc. Just because someone trains to be a vet, it doesn't necessarily follow that they are good with people, staff, animals even.
  3. Oh goody. More for over worked and under paid teachers to do because another "problem" has reared its head in society.
  4. how can you determine this? I think if you see people often enough, you can get the vibes from the people as well.
  5. Millions of years of evolution and these dogs still think they need to bully others, not to mention the owners also thinking that's OK behaviour. Sounds like the whole family needs a few more years of evolution to catch up to the rest of us :p Right on. Those sorts of F***wits make my blood boil. One of those occasions with a report is definitely called for. Particularly as one of the dogs is a puppy. Being taught really really really bad habits and will end up a danger. Don't forget the chocolate biscuit. But, if you don't want it, I'll take it. :) Ha ha ha - you beat me to it, mita.
  6. Trust you If someone stops to talk to me, I ALWAYS stress that mine are all adopted from pounds. And people will quite often ask me how I ended up with so many (well I don't think that, but others do   ), so it gives me the opportunity, like you Alkhe, to talk about rescuing, fostering, pounds, etc etc.
  7. Thank god. These sorts of threads are just awful - poor dogs and people. I'm so pleased he has been found and can now go on to live the good life. Well done, Maree.
  8. What is going on here? Someone goes for a couple of days grooming instruction at a council organised class and hangs out their shingle?? Just too horrible Poor people, poor little dog. I, too, hope these people and their like are put out of business.
  9. I've never seen Jeune play with another dog Sometimes she gets a rush of blood and will race around the back yard barking madly, but not for long. And that is the only playing I have ever seen her do in the 9 years she has lived with me. Strange little dog - timid, yet very very stubborn. Even after all these years, walking with her is a battle of wills.
  10. If I had a dog who'd been sick for a week, I would not be waiting another 20 hours or more to take him to a vet.
  11. Your friend probably left it too long before he took his dog to the vet and you are in danger of doing the same. If you post your suburb, people on this forum will be able to recommend good vets in your area.
  12. Totally agree. The internet is for AFTER you've been to the vet, if at all - and then only to read up a bit more on what the vet has told you.
  13. But he has being like that for a week, I left plenty of fresh water for him A week . If he is drinking and them vomitting, he is not being properly hydrated. Dehydration can cause death.
  14. Your dog is probably dehydrated and as he is so small together with today's heat, I think probably not a good idea to wait until tomorrow. And don't give him ANYTHING no prescribed by the vet.
  15. Depending where you are, emergency vet this afternoon. Homebush 9758 8666 Baulkham Hills 9639 7744 North Ryde 9889 0289
  16. Poor Bestie must be wondering, "What the heck!!!" Luma has body slamming down to a fine art. Great find, SM.
  17. I agree that a lot of the time people have no idea what they have on the end of a leash. Agree. Any dog owner who walks his/her dogs regularly and with half a brain knows the the sounds of wheels (skates, skateboards, trolleys, bicycles) can be a real trigger for reaction for dogs. Fancy being lunged at and bitten when you have to use a walker. That poor woman. I hope the owner is fined big time.
  18. As my walks take me past a council playground, I often have little children looking at the dogs and me half smiling half wistful. If I feel like stopping, I will ask them if they want to say hello to the dogs and if I don't feel like stopping, I'll just smile and keep walking. It isn't hard. But I don't like people to just charge up and start patting because I generally have 3 to 5 dogs, a couple of whom are somewhat timid and need to be able to approach people in their own time.
  19. Hank looks a really lovely dog. And you sound a lovely owner as well .... all those trips to the beach. Just what a dog needs
  20. Agree totally. Whether or not the owner's stayed with the dog while she was euthanised is beside the point. According to the owner's story, she was billed for the procedure. Aside from the fact that the dog wasn't euthanised, what astounded me in the vet's story was: "He said the dog was then treated by a new owner and later rehomed multiple times but transfer of ownership details were never completed, leaving Ms Wainwright as Sasha's registered owner." (My underlining.)
  21. Oh, that deserves a write up and pix in the local rag.
  22. What a great dog, Lhok. I met an Akita just this afternoon when he and his family were walking past my house. Naturally, I couldn't resist getting an introduction and a cuddle and a smooch and a sniff and a push with the head when I dared stop playing with his ears ......... Huge cream boy called Zeus and very very laid back.
  23. I had to resurrect this thread because of an experience this afternoon. I met the biggest beautifulest cuddly friendly cream dog. His breed? Akita . A few weeks ago, I'd seen him from a distance and at first could really just make out the largest dog I'd seen in the neighbourhood, but on watching for a while, I was fairly certain he was an Akita. I was in the front yard this afternoon and he and his family were walking past; they stopped to talk and to give me cuddles - with the dog that is :D . OMG, he is so big and it made me realise that I'd not seen an Akita in the flesh and had no idea they were so big.
