  1. These excerpts from your posts really touched my heart, kiwioz Charlie looks totally and 100% adorable. He will be ruling the roost in no time at all
  2. Glad you mentioned that. Saves me a trip to Bunnings to investigate.
  3. Ah - didn't realise that. Hopefully you can ride it all out safely, Westiemum (and all those in heatwaves); in the meantime, concentrate on the industrial strength air con in the future. ABC News 24 is currently broadcasting regarding the heatwave to come.
  4. Hopefully there will be lots of "Talk" about this article and more people will get on board. (Sorry, I just couldn't resist .)
  5. Devastated to read you have lost one of your loved ones . Deepest sympathies.
  6. Hey Westiemum, I've found your doggy buggy   http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wrought-Iron-dog-cat-house-desk-Tea-table-bookcase-shelf-rack-sitting-room-stand-/171201858318?pt=AU_OutdoorFurniture&hash=item27dc6d0b0e#ht_942wt_684
  7. I've never heard of this before. Wouldn't towels/sheets/blankets/tinted glass work as well? It probably sounds prohibitive, but in your situation, I think I'd be looking at installing air conditioning, Westiemum. I feel the heat terribly and even on supposedly cooler days (26-27) sometimes feel as though I am about to auto combust I spend most of my time indoors because I can hardly move without being saturated with perspiration . I also have an evaporative cooler which is useless unless trained directly on me. Does not cool the room down, but I move it around the areas where the air conditioning doesn't reach, eg study and bathroom. I also have fully lined curtains in bedrooms and study and louvres in the loungeroom and keep all these closed on the really hot days. This certainly makes a difference. On the rare occasions I leave the house through the middle of the day, everything gets turned off. No way would I knowlingly leave any applicance switched on when I am not in the house. However, if I have had the air conditioning on, the house is still quite cool when I get home. I'm rarely gone for more than a few hours, but I understand the difficulty and worries for those who are gone for the whole working day. I wish I could help out, but SA a bit far away. My dogs (all elderly) are like heat seeking missiles .... I'll find them lying in the sun when it is over 30.
  8. Loving the Chronicles of Jonah. I hope they continue to be posted here. What a gorgeous boy
  9. Could a foster look more at home :D :D The ones with two legs look pretty damned cute as well.
  10. Of course you must feel devastated. A lot of people here can relate to the situation as to why you had to rehome one of your dogs and to the way you feel now. Rusty has gone to an experienced cattle dog owner who wants him to be included in his day to day activities which seems to bode well for a life of love and care for him. Best of luck. ETA: Just realised that you posted this on 30 December nearly two weeks ago. Have you any update as to how Rusty is settling in? I am sure your BC is much happier now.
  11. Ha ha, that's what I thought. The people would think they'd been burgled or something and the dog would be snoozing innocently on a couch somewhere. Dogs ain't just pretty faces !!
  12. Couldn't say it better. Totally scrumptious, CC.
  13. Gorgeous Little Gifts. I bought a new wheelbarrow recently and thought it might be of interest to those who are a bit DIYish. I'm certainly not, but I can see its potential as a doggy buggy  . It is very manouvreable and easy to either push or pull. It is 64x68cms and with padding and shade could be very comfortable. The only thing wrong is that the handle is a bit short. I am a shorty, but still have to bend slightly.
  14. Thanks cowanbree - I think you're right. Its just that I'm having a little difficulty coming to terms with the fact that my darling old boy really is slowing down… I'll have to try leaving him at home with the house-mate so I can see how he reacts… to be honest I think I'll probably have more difficulty with it than Mac will... Yes, it comes as a shock to discover that your once bundle of energy with whom you could walk for over an hour puts the brakes on My youngest is now 10 and because I have had so many really old dogs, I still think of her as a puppy   . Whereas I used to walk twice a day for up to an hour each time, I'm our for less than 3/4 hour and that long only because we walk at a snail's pace. Myrtie, at 11 and a half, is still the most sprightly, and if I take her out on her own, we have a pretty racey walk. Beautiful photo, Westiemum, and one to treasure. The photo that Marion 01 posted is gorgeous as are the links Piper posted. The only issue I would have with them is that they are so far off the ground that the dogs wouldn't get all the smells that they love. On the other hand, maybe that is a good thing so they wouldn't be trying to jump out. Just wondering really.
  15. That does put a different slant on it. Ongoing vet bills are something you really don't need. I do hope that somewhere another dog is putting out vibes that he/she wants to join your family and to help your boy strut his stuff
  16. Oh - that is such a blow! You've been waiting ages for this girl.
  17. LOL - I thought of this thread last night (or early this morning rather). I had to get up to go to the bathroom and when I climbed back into bed, Jeune had disappeared under the sheet. She came tunneling up to be cuddled, but, as usual, when I tried to settle down with her head on my shoulder, she struggled to get into the position she prefers which further down the bed, back against me and face away. If that had been Danny or Myrtie, they would have happily stayed in cuddle position.
  18. All my dogs except from the first two as puppies have been from pounds or from people rehoming. None has ever suffered separation anxiety and they have all settled in amazingly quickly. While some dogs are a one-person dogs and if separated will miss that person forever, most will adapt if given plenty of love and have their specific needs recognised and met.
  19. Individual preference. I have five little dogs sleeping on my bed and one cat. They lie in all sorts of positions, but each has his or her preferred place on the bed.
  20. Agree. What does it matter where the dog comes from providing he/she is the dog you want to join you and Finn :) :)
  21. Our dogs certainly put us through the wringer Jazz seems to be progressing remarkably well. You and your wife should be very proud of yourselves
  22. And when you think about the meeting and how Bonnie behaved you can push out your chest and say: I did that. Congratulations. And, as Tikira has said, enjoy the next two weeks and we want to see more photos. Oh, and there are lots of threads here that finish up along the lines of: and she just jumped into the car and didn't even look back
