  1. This doesn't seem right. Just because the dogs were on lead doesn't mean it's ok to let them attack people. If the man lost control of his car and ran over some people - he'd still be liable. I can't believe such a response. Those police should be given a good kick up the posterior. I makes me sick to the stomach to think what that poor woman must have been going through, knowing her eye was injured, and no one coming near her to help. God some people are disgusting. I don't have words for the owner of the dogs to just go an leave her to cope alone - bad enough being injured let alone in the eye and suffering from impaired vision as a result. I hope he is found and prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident/incident caused by his dogs.
  2. Tamar is the one in my family who gets more confused than upset if someone else is in "her" place. Some time ago, I decided it was time for Gussy Cat to get reintegrated into the household and I figured the only way this was going to happen was to get a crate so she couldn't escape. I would put the crate next to my pillow so Gussy Cat was as close to me as possible, but this was Tamar's place . She'd spend most of the night standing up moving from place to place and totally unable to settle. Luckily, I didn't need the crate for all that long and she and Gussy Cat have come to an undestanding LOL.
  3. The question is a bit like "how long is a piece of string". You could probably find any number of dogs of all breeds who would suit. It is finding them. First of all compile a list of pros and cons. Then look in PetRescue and make a list of the dogs who take the lady's fancy, and contact the rescuer for more information. Keep to the dogs in foster care as then you will have a better understanding of the personality of the dog ...... as much as you can . Dogs can change when they change homes.
  4. Sometimes, particularly when Bunter lies at my feet, I feel like tossing them all off, but then I would miss them . On the rare occasions I have anyone to stay, they do get excited and jump on the person in the second bedroom when that person is going to bed (luckily I know only dog lovers), but eventually all come back to my bed. I know what you mean... Grover used to sleep under the doona, snuggled into my tummy, but he would get too hot and crawl out and come back in again all night! And to get back in again he head butted my face until I lifted up the doona for him! I ended up making a rule about 'no dogs in beds!' because it was driving me so crazy. Of course I miss it like anything now. With 5 dogs, I could rabbit on forever about their idosyncrasies while out walking, on the bed, eating, house rules   , but at the risk of being a bore, I'll try to restrain myself. My loving sister told me that I used to bore them stupid talking about dogs

  6. He sure is and those blankets were chosen just to match him. He was a much loved and adored little chap and you will feel bereft for such a long time. It is your entitlement to feel that way. I was interested in what Tikira said, too. When my first little dog died when she was only 3 and a half, I was totally totally devastated, finding it so hard to accept that a being I'd loved so much could be taken from me. It was pretty well a year before I could talk about her with tearing up.
  7. If you would like her on your bed and she wants to get on your bed, but the problem is doggy smelling bedclothes and hair, then have a supply of sheets and easy wash blankets that you put on the bed before going to bed and take off in the morning when you make your bed. Change them every couple of days. You'll have a heap of washing, but you'll both be happy. (Have a look at my thread called Going to Bed in the Photos section - LOL. I have throws and dog beds all over the bed for my dogs and Gussy Cat.) DOLer Steve sells organic washes and fresheners for dogs. Her website is www.shalarm.com.au. I really detest all those artificial room fresheners and scents and things you plug into power points, but I do have one room spray I've used very sparingly over the years from Crabtree & Evelyn called Summer Hill.
  8. Oh Ams  you should see me trying to get into bed. As soon as I sit on the edge of the bed to apply lip cream and handcream, the movement gets underway. Jeune is desperate to sit on me, Myrtie starts her Madam Lash girations (see old, X-rated thread about this ), Bunter likes to move to where my feet are supposed to be, Danny starts his old man growling and snapping because everyone is disturbing him, Tamar is confused as to what is expected of her and, generally speaking, I have to consider all their wants, but they have no consideration for mine . I should have a video camera in the ceiling to record it all - quite ridiculous really :D :D
  9. Poor Gussy Cat. I'll have to keep it quiet that Queen Maeby thinks she looks like a wombat. If you go into the Cat forum, you'll see lots of thread I've started about her. She is quite old now, 15+. My fault; I should have lightened it a bit or tried to
  10. A couple had already made it without the stairs, but here is Bunter: Followed by Jeune: Jeune welcomes Myrtie: We've all made it:
  11. I should have been clearer in my meaning. I know about the kennel because on a couple of occasions, I've ducked over when I know everyone is out and peep through the slatted gate (which is kept locked - otherwise I might be tempted to be very naughty). The dog is on a narrow, roofed deck, but in one of my sneaky visits I could see that the rain had wet all the deck and the sail shade thing they've put up is useless at keeping the rain out. Luckily the dog's bed is raised. The grass hasn't been mown for weeks and there are a few toys dotted around. Poor little dog.
  12. Bruno . I had to look hard to work him out LOL. Maddie is something else.
  13. Why would she be fine if she were a toy breed ? If one of my toy poodles lived like this it would break their heart, they would get depressed & they are not couch potatoes either. I meant the size of the kennel ! Of course the situation is horrid for any dog; the description was meant to show the total lack of understanding of a dog's needs.
  14.   Little froggy legs
  15. That sounds a bit harsh, but maybe you didn't mean it the way it comes across in the written word :) Someone also said, "Evil happens while good men do nothing." Yes, one dog at a time louise6616, try not to let some posters get under your skin. You will never ever outsay them and some of them exist just to shoot others down :) . My heart is breaking too, as I listen to the 5 months old Labrador pup cry and bark in the tiny front courtyard over the road, high brick walls so she can't even see the outside world . . . and the people are home. She has a kennel which would be fine if she were a toy breed .
  16. What a beautiful dog . Best wishes for a wonderful new life, Sam
  17. Shocking story, Sheilaheel02. How lucky were those dogs!! I'm sure it happens more than we will ever know, hence I am always harping on the need to have it all in writing and spoken about.
  18. IMO - no, don't offer them any money at this stage. Just keep going the way you are, letting the dog in (forgetting to put her back :D :D ), wait until you think is the right moment and offer to buy her because your dogs and your baby love her so much. Little anecdote of my own :D . I used to see a tiny black Pomeranian sitting neglected on a front porch. The people used to go away camping at weekends, taking their much larger dog with them and leaving the little Pom alone. I considered stealing him (let the stones fly people   ) but realised I'd never be able to give him the life my dogs had (lots of walks and trips to the park) because the people lived just a couple of streets away from me. So I shillied and shallied, even took him to the vet once for treatment which they were more than happy for me to do and paid up well over $100 without a blink. When I finally offered to buy him, the women said that had I asked about 18 months ago, she would have said yes, but they had started to take him with them on the weekends away and he loved it. So, it is a fine line you will need to draw.
  19. Sheilaheel02, your post is just so so important for people to read. It is all very well for someone to say: oh, my family/friends/neighbours just love my dogs. I know they will be looked after if something happens to me. Different story if something does happen. Suddenly people are faced with the prospect of adding one or more dogs/cats/birds/other pet to an already settled household. I have five dogs and one cat. The youngest dog is 10 and the cat is 15+. Who would want to take on those unless I provided funds for someone to do so. No one that I can think of.
  20. I don't have any advice because it depends so much on the people. I am dealing with a similar issue at the moment. Morons across the road have a little pup who is confinded 24 hours a day seven days a week in a small front courtyard with no outlook to anywhere. Why people get dogs and treat them like this is incomprehensible to most people. It is just so heartbreaking. In your situation, where they have already let her visit you and your dogs, if you are able to take her and she gets on well with your dogs, I'd bite the bullet and ask if you can adopt her.
  21. I don't understand this logic... Well the first mistake is to assume that council determinations are logical ... don't know whether to laugh or cry.
  22. Please ensure those who are closest to her know this, so something doesn't happen to the dog before you are informed. As you say, hopefully she will have many more years with her dog yet.
