When To Take Dogs To Vet For Diarrhea?
Loving my Oldies replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I was scouring the shelves at Bunnings a couple of days ago looking for something to clean algae of cement and I came across Glitz Green Eucalyptus Oil. I had some cotton sheets that I used for the old lounge for the dogs to lie on and no matter what I used in terms of laundry liquid, hours on the line in the sun, nothing seemed to get the whiff of doggy out of them. I tried the GGEO (20mls to the washing) and it worked. I am also now mixing it in the watering can that I use to wash where a couple of the dogs wee on the deck when it is raining It is a lovely fresh smell. Hope Bon and Lucy and your bedspread are better soon. -
Deepest sympathies, j. Ginger Puss was a much loved member of your family. No companion could ask for more.

When To Take Dogs To Vet For Diarrhea?

Just my feelings, but I don't believe it is necessary for dogs to have something to graze on. My dogs are offered their meals twice a day - sometimes they eat it, sometimes they don't. If they don't, it comes up in about 10-15 minutes. For treats they get tiny bits of dried liver and for big treats (  ) they get roo jerky, but not little pieces that they can swallow outright, larger pieces that they can chew on for ages. I hope Bon and Lucy are better soon. Which is which in your avatar photo? -

We all should have a Whippet to match our outfits. How can this be arranged, please? -

Goodos and Schmackos ... sorry Donatello, but I'd be taking both of them off the menu. ETA: Not just for now, but permanently. -

Ah, that's a bummer. Any chance your mum could come to your place just to check on them? It is just that they are so small. But from what you are saying, they are probably okay, really. And agree with wuffles. Can't keep water down = visit to vet. -
How Far Does A Breeders Responsibility Extend?
Loving my Oldies replied to Edge's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think in some instances, yes. Not everyone sees a dog as a lovely creature to love - some may want to breed and make their fortune :D :D and others may want to take the show world by storm.  -
How Far Does A Breeders Responsibility Extend?
Loving my Oldies replied to Edge's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've just realised that I have a story to tell about buying from a breeder - it is over 20 years ago, so probably not really relevant as I think today people are a little more savvy and much more information on the internet ..... nothing when I was buying. I wanted two puppies and already had a male coming when he was old enough. I found a female Maltese at 4 weeks, bought her, named her, visited once and waited impatiently until she was 8 weeks old and I could bring her home. At that time, my knowledge as to what to expect was minus zero :D :D . So the wonderful day arrived, I collected my little pup from the breeder and took her straight to my vet (my brother, now retired, - I mention this as I was really only taking her for him to see). He gave her a very thorough examination and, BAM!!, diagnosed a problem with her heart. Because she was so very tiny, he couldn't be too sure what the problem was and we had to wait a few months for her to get a bit bigger before multitude of tests at the Sydney Uni Vet hospital. However, it never crossed my mind to take her back, ask for some sort of compensation from the breeder, absolutely nothing. She was my dog from the moment I laid eyes upon her. It transpired that she had congenital heart disease, I advised the breeders in case they were going to breed her parents again (they weren't) and they offered to take her back with full refund. I refused - she was my dog and I adored every little hair on her :D . She died at three and a half. Naturally, I was heart broken, but I totally loved that tiny little dog, just over 2kgs wringing wet. I guess it depends on what you want from a dog: a family pet, a companion, a show dog, breeding down the track. ETA: At 14 months, I think an owner is pushing it to expect something from the breeder. -

Depends on what they are like tomorrow morning, I would think. It is always a difficult call if vets aren't close by. Could you drop them off to someone you trust or to the vet in the morning, so they can be watched through the day? TSD posted at same time. I agree with her - no food or very lean chicken and rice. -

Oh - sorry. I didn't look that far . It was featured on one of your links, I think.

LOL, Rebanne. I'm sure most of us thought the same, but allow the poster some dignity. -
I like the look of the Ecoflex Lodge Style. I have a home made kennel that just sits on the deck for any of my dogs to go into if they want to - happens once in a blue moon. The roof lifts up and the floor (which has long since rotted away) would slide out. Maybe check if any of the kennels for sale have lift up rooves.

This is true, but sad. People suing doctors because their children are born with disabilities, etc etc. Be totally shattering if you are one of the statisically few, but life can be very unfair. -

I don't know what FTR means :) The difference between barky dogs and crying dogs is immense, in my opinion :) . They aren't annoying, but distressing. Well, yes, I guess it can be annoying, but the main feeling is distress on behalf of the dog. -
Do Vets Send Found Dogs Straight To A Shelter?
Loving my Oldies replied to tikira's topic in General Dog Discussion
It depends on the Council. I know that Hornsby council has a few "staging" vets where dogs can be taken and kept there for a couple of days. Hornsby Council's pound is the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home at Kogara so it would be pretty silly to be taking dogs/cat/animals whenever they were found down to Kogara. So, yes, in some places the animals can stay at the vets for a few days. And in some places, the pound is attached to a veterinary clinic. -
I bought them from Innovations, but they haven't been available for a couple of years. For anyone handy, they would be pretty simple to make. I also have a high bed so most of the ones available weren't tall enough. These are perfect.

My Greyhounds Were Attacked Today :(
Loving my Oldies replied to HazyWal's topic in General Dog Discussion
No one should have to go through this ever. Being scared while trying to enjoy a nice walk with your dogs is crap. Do the dogs seem nervous at all? Frankly it is disgusting that you have to feel like this. If the rangers would do their jobs properly the level of anxiety that you feel would probably descrease 50%. -

Good for her: dog gets exercise, teenager gets exercised, paid and taught, and owner gets to supervise. -

A totally unsatisfactory and downright dangerous response from the ranger. Too true. You are very generous. I'd be saying "uber lazy" and not even bothering to check the law.
