What Is Wrong With People?
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh, Staffyluv - that is worse than my rant. Poor poor dogs. At least "my" little dogs have each other and they have the run of the back yard, although I've no idea how big that is. -
A little dog has been barking non-stop for over two hours. She and her sister (Maltese Crosses) are owned by people who don't believe in having dogs in the house ... AT ALL, so I have been told. The dogs are occasionally walked and are basically just your nice average dogs. But they sure don't have much of a life. I don't want to cast aspersions, so I hopped in the car and drove around the block to check their house. Plenty of lights on, two of their cars are parked out the front, so someone must be home. Are they deaf, or don't they care? I guess it's the latter I first became aware of these dogs a few years ago: I actually went outside one day to call Tamar to stop barking only to see her snuggled and quiet on the lounge. It took me a while to work out where the barking was coming from. The household consists of parents, two adult children and the 3-4 year old daughter of the daughter, so no shortage of people who could take these little dogs for a whizz around the block. If someone told me my dogs were barking non-stop, I would be mortified, yet, I once asked the young woman which of her dogs was the barker? Deliberately of course. Could have wasted my breath. She wasn't sure . . . . . . . .

Have you looked at Furbabies - Can't remember full name - an advertiser on this forum? I bought belly bands from her; you may need a combination of belly bands and pants. Love my furbabies, I think. -
What Ever Happened To Kate & Gin
Loving my Oldies replied to sheena's topic in General Dog Discussion
Their routines were totally thrilling and entrancing. She was so modest and Gin obviously enjoyed every minute. Good to read an update, thank you. Funnily enough, I was thinking about them the other day. I wonder if Rupert could be persuaded to start a newspaper: Whatever happened to . . . . . -
Remind Me, What To Do If An Aggressive Dog Rushes Me

Do you mean the Weimeraner or the OH -
I used to mix ID, rice cooked in home made chicken stock and chicken, but seeing your dog developed an intolerance for the chicken, perhaps you need to stick to the ID and rice. With the chicken stock, I'd make is up as for normal stock but without any seasonings. Remove the chicken and let the stock sit o/night in frig. Skim off as much fat as possible and strain through material. I use a cotton tea towel. This gets pretty well all the fat out. I then cook rice by the absorption method to ensure all the flavour is retained. What does your vet say about the krill oil and Inner Health? Maybe they are a problem as well. Good luck. It is hard to see our loved ones struggling.

My Greyhounds Were Attacked Today :(

I agree with juice. The council obviously isn't going to act - unless they are scared into it. This whole thing (I am going through something similar but nowhere nearly as bad with an RE company) just makes me so mad. Council workers are paid out of our taxes, yet few seem to have any concept of honouring their obligations to their community. -

Wise words, Steve. But let's face it, the holier than thous always need to point out others' foibles whist forgetting their own  -
Deepest sympathies, Lokelani. Your Bosco was a beautiful beautiful boy. I'm glad you came back to talk about your loss. In my experiience, talking about our loved ones somehow keeps them alive and as that is all we have, that is what we do. Run free, Bosco - hope you find Loki.

So beatutiful. Look at that little black and white King of the Playing Pole

Is it just for cats and kittens, Casowner? I know pounds do it all the time and lots of rescue groups/people too, but I could never rehome a dog without looking at the prospective home or having someone I trusted do it for me.

That's it. Thank you. And for those who might like to see it again too: http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/253308-our-old-boy-ryan/page__p__6343068__fromsearch__1#entry6343068

A DOLer posted some truly beautiful photographs of her young daughter and her Collie dog recently. I don't know why, but memory of it popped into my head last night and I really wanted to feast my eyes on those photographs again. Naturally, my memory won't co-operate when trying to recall the poster. Help please :) :)

Kill List Frustrations

Really Dogmad, when Czzzy said "another rant", she was referring to her own story. -
Photographs of victims aren't often released and I guess this is from the point of privacy and, frankly, some would be just too horrific . I remember years ago when my sister's dog (mini Poodle) just put his paws up on the chair arm where dad's arm was resting - tore into his arm quite unintentionally and dad was pretty stoic, but the wound was pretty awful. I'm glad I'm not alone . I was wondering whether I was becoming a bit obsessive. In today's society we seem to be very unhelpfully focussed on finding a single point of blame, sadly, thus the focus on breed rather than education.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am finding it hard to get this lady out of my mind. Remember the other thread where the jogger was jumped on by two dogs and the photographs of her face afterwards? Those dogs were on a lead and, although I don't know the full story, probably made only the one contact before being pulled back, but that woman was really badly wounded. Can you imagine the state this elderly lady must be in. Because of injuries from dog bites, gardening, etc, my right arms looks as though I might have been indulging in some self harm over the years - the smallest scratch seems to leave a scar these days on my ageing flesh. I am not being a ghoul, but it crossed my mind yesterday that photographs of this lady might give some people a terrible shock and make them realise the damage dogs can do - whether by accident or intent. Of course action like that can backfire, but how on earth do you get people to understand the responsibility of owning dogs?

16 D Questions
Loving my Oldies replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
As I have never investigated the requirements or exemptions of aClause 16(d), I didn't know that. But I always believed in doing as much as the paperwork as possible to ensure it actually gets done. -
Kill List Frustrations

Yes, it is sad, strange, maybe fickle and flakey, but it all very well for those of us who have been involved in pounds and rescuing and fostering dogs for yonks to sit in judgement of the general public. They just don't know. And why or how should they? Not everyone goes in for hours/days/weeks of research before they buy something. ETA: It seems to me that for many people a dog is a dog is a dog. You want a dog? Go to the pound, pet shop, breeder. Yep, like the look of that one. Yes, many of us can see the perils and pitfalls, but for most people that is how it works. If you care, you just plod on trying to educate and make a difference, person by person.
