I Have Solved The Oodle Problem
Loving my Oldies replied to hankdog's topic in General Dog Discussion
You're right. I had to look twice. LOL. Deshonko def has a rival now. Probably best to start Christmas orders ASAP. -
I was wrong ... the new dog park is in the ACT. Article in "In the News" forum.

You've hit the nail on the head, poochiemama. We are all very different and all have very different levels of ability, creativity, pain (physical and mental) thresholds. A couple of places you might be interested in are Edgar's Mission in Victoria and Brightside Farm Sanctuary in Tasmania. These are places that do extraordinary things for animals of all kinds .... truly awe inspiring.

I never intentionally watch anything on television about animal cruelty. It is bad enough that horrifying images pop up on my news feed. In fact, a couple of nights ago, after being unwittingly exposed to some pretty awful examples, I had nightmares One of the things that makes me angry is that although a warning might be issued at the beginning of the actual program, there is no warning before advertisements for the show are aired. I also have absolutely no interest in travelling ANYWHERE in the orient or South America. I am not going to spend my money in countries where cruelty to animals, birds, fish - all living things - is a casual part of everyday life. How people volunteer at pounds which have weekly kill lists is beyond me and yet some people manage to do it for weeks, months, years and I am in total awe that their dedication is such that they can continue to do it. My first experience with a pound was a very small pound, Burwood Pound in Sydney which was a low kill as you could possible get in that only dogs who were very aggressive or horribly injured/sick were euthanised. However, I still remember the first time a dog I'd walked, played with, cuddled and valued was euthanised. I was a total blubbering wreck. I still remember her name, her breed and her article in the local paper. And that was 13-14 years ago. There are other things a person can do without having to be exposed to things they know they can't handle. :)

LOL, I thought the coat fitted a bit better this month. What a glorious dog she is, Terri S. You must be very happy.
-
Gosh, that is a lot of dog. Gorgeous pair.
-
Must be a different place then, Yonjuro. I don't really recall much, except I thought they said it was in WA and there had been consultation with the public as to where the park should be and there was a separate place for smaller dogs.
-
what did they say???? Just talking about the facilities and how they had separate areas for different sized dogs. Looked pretty good.
-
That park had a mention on the ABC today

They are fabulous, Piper. Love the little SWF going over the jumps What breed is the big fluffy red dog?

The fear and horror experienced by that young man are just unimaginable. The neighbour, too, must have been pretty desperate - he certainly saved the young man's life. As for the dogs and their owner: well the owner did everything he thought was necessary and to start blaming him, I think, is pointless and non productive. What needs to be understood, in my opinion and based on just a little bit of experience, is that we underestimate the power of "pack mentality". It exists in all animals including humans. In a pack, humans are capable of unspeakable savagery and humans are supposed to be civilised. I would say that that is far from the case. Any owner of multiple dogs will have the experience of "good" dogs learning bad behaviours from "bad" dogs. We will never know what set these dogs off when they'd seen the young man on his scooter countless times through their lives from puppyhood. The tension in just one of them could have been building and on this particular occasion, it reached breaking point and led the others to do what they did. We have all seen dogs who go mental at the sight of a skateboarder and, conversely, other who take not the slightest bit of notice. We need to learn what are the triggers in our dogs and do our best to neutralise them. I can go only on what I've read here, but I would say that the owner of the dogs never for a moment thought his dogs would have been capable of what they did. He is in as much shock as anyone. Blessing to the young man that he makes a full recovery and once again gains the courage to assert his independence.

Loving my Oldies replied to ka89's topic in General Dog Discussion
Very true. I put throws and donuts beds for the dogs on my bed of an evening. Takes as long to get the bed ready for the dogs as it does for me to get ready for bed. LOL. -
Gosh - as beautiful as Hamlet. Same mother or father?

Samoyed Rescue?
Loving my Oldies replied to carolineh1's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Poor boy, so glad he is with you now. A few years ago, I minded a little dog who was brain damaged and stressed to the max just about all the time. I used Rescue Remedy in her water and this did improve. With your boy, you might be able to put it in food or directly on his tongue. -

Me too. ka89's experience will no doubt be passed on to friends and acquaintances. Puppy is getting a good home and a good chance. Education is necessary to stop pet shops, but once the deed is done, the owner needs support not lectures. :) So glad that ka89 has sought help and has acted in pup's best interests. Ka89, your pup will probably use the dog house from time to time, but generally you will find that his house is where you are LOL. -
Two Dogs Attack A 10-year-old Boy In Bellambi
Loving my Oldies replied to Panto's topic in In The News
Somehow the message needs to get through to owners that they are responsible for the safety of their dog/s and this includes not putting them into situations that end in their being euthanised. That said, even people who recognise that responsibility and think they have all bases covered can be visited by tragedy. -
