Take Me Out And Shoot Me
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
All my dogs are small (toy really), Baby Pepper. As Danny hardly moves now once he goes to sleep, if his incontinence gets too bad and not able to be controlled by medication, I do have a soft crate that I could put on the bed. I woke up this morning (have to start early with Danny's medication regime) to find everyone dry, Danny's belly band was dry too, so I took him downstairs to wee and then gave him the first of his medications. Went back to bed and lying there thinking: thank goodness, no washing to do and with that poor Danny was violently ill and all his medication came up. Luckily (for me that is - god knows how Danny felt ) the throw up was confined to one of the throws which can just go into the wash once I've scraped it. -

That bond is something so special. And loved your story too, Simply Grand. Great that the two dogs found each other. Although she doesn't play, sometimes my Jeune gets all cutesy and decides to tease Danny by doing the play jump around flick the tail bit. -
And here is the original thread. As Myrtie crossed The 'Bridge earlier this year, I've had a few little http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/201346-this-is-more-for-me/page__p__4697055__fromsearch__1#entry4697055

Those steps look very solid, wide and being carpeted the dogs (and cats) would feel secure.

There is an old thread here started by me about doggy steps. My problem was that none of the ones I'd seen would reach the top of the bed. I eventually found the perfect fit at Innovations and up until now they have been great. Their drawback, though, is that the step itself is very narrow and as the dogs are getting older and shakier, they don't feel as secure as they used to. I am investigating having a set made to suit them, but it also has to collapse so I can push it under the bed during the day. I can visualise it, but don't have the tools or know how to make it. I actually think a ramp would be better as they are getting too old to jump off the bed and would never go down the steps. On the other hand, I could buy a new, very low bed :) :)

The trainers who don't adhere to the concept of different strokes for different folks are doing a lot of harm. Glad you have seen Jane and getting it sorted. I've heard nothing good about this man - one of the rigid ones it would seem to me and a self made celebrity LOL - and have had almost first hand experience :D via a niece of mine who went to him. She is one of those people who believes if you pay a lot the consultant must be good. All very sad for the dog involved. -
It is nearly the weekend, Donatella . Jane Harper will probably spot all sorts of subtle things going on which her expertise will be able to sort out. Ouch ouch ouch - those bruises . Years ago I had a tiny little dog who when he decided that he'd had enough walking or just wanted a cuddly would leap up behind me and bite the back of my thigh. Very painful - I know what little dogs can do, particularly if they are frightened and desperate to get your attention.
-
One of the problems with little dogs: so easy to pick them up to get them out of trouble . Between a rock and a hard place.
-
Bon is so tiny, Donatella and Lucy sure is being a bully. I will be very interested in what Jane Harper has to say. I don't know anything about her except for DOLers giving her lots of recommendations. As others have said: I didn't see that as being friendly at all. You know what I instantly thought of? Domestic violence - when one partner beats up the other and then comes bringing gifts and telling the other, you know you need me and see how I look after you. Very sad to see little Bon like that. See my post above about Domestic Violence. Afraid to let the other person out of their sight. At least then they might be able to see the punches coming and duck them.

Take Me Out And Shoot Me

Tamar is okay, Christina. She isn't one of those dogs who feels bad about toileting inside -LOL. And Danny doesn't seem to be upset at wetting the bed and he was totally unconcerned about the belly band. His other problems are a different matter. He does feel sick to varying degrees each day and I try to give him lots of cuddle time, because that is what he likes best of all. -

Thanks for the medication suggestions, Boronia. On my [constantly] growing list. LG, you and yours have been in the wars too. I am back from my shopping: stocking up at the vet with repeat of Danny's meds and Hills Prescription cans; and target for a new pillow and another mattress protector. I'd like to find some rubber mats which I can just wipe down if any of the leaky loves have accidents. M/protectors take too long to dry. -

Thanks everyone. Yes, K, I couldn't crate Danny, or any of them for that matter. Hopefully, increasing Tamar's medication will do the trick with her, Caz, and I'll keep up with the belly bands and extra matress protection with Danny and talk to the vet. I have so much to do and yet here I am reading DOL and FB and feeling sorry for myself. Get to, woman -

He's the one saying: And did you see that poorly bred Husky the other day? Such a tramp. -
Some of you will have seen my thread on Danny's problems. Well he has now developed incontinence, poor little boy. I haven't mentioned this to the vet as I just don't know how he can cope with more medication. Tamar (the youngest of the Moochers at nearly 11 - just a puppy) developed incontinence about a year ago and has been managed with Propalin. The night before last I spread a mattress protector (additional to the usual one I have on my bed) under the bedding where Danny sleeps on my bed. He did a wee in his sleep, but then I have all the additional wash and the problem of trying to get dry the m/protector. Last night I tried him with a belly band which I had had when my little toy poodle was a member of the pack. This worked . I woke up early, checked and removed the b/band and carried a half asleep Danny down to the yard for a wee and came back to bed. Big mistake as I had the most awful dreams - more like nightmares. Tamar decided to snuggle down into my side. Woke up a couple of hours later, sniffing and with a wet pyjama leg. Tamar had wet the bed. We may need to increase her dose of Propalin and will talk to vet about that. So what with the nightmares leaving me horribly distressed (so real and unrelenting) not a wonderful start to the day. Off to buy some more mattress protectors, while the washing machine works overtime. Will be breaking my rule and leaving it working hard while I go out.

How Can Such A Mark Up Be Justified

I think you have misread, sandgrubber. It wasn't the pharmacy, it was SASH (Small Animal Specialist Hospital) which was taking advantage of the love we have for our pets -

Oh SM, you are so sweet and kind. Is it the liquid? It might not be the correct strength for a 5.4kg little dog LOL. I am off to do some shopping, now, and will go to the chemist to ask about the combination as mentioned above by Westiemum. -
Does Anyone Leave Aircon On For Their Dogs?
Loving my Oldies replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't because having had a metre board explode into flames a few years ago and seeing in my mind's eye my house go up in flames, I am too worried. I don't leave any appliance on when I go out, not even washing machine, dryer or dishwasher. Ditto in winter: no heaters, electric or gas. -

Danny is on both Ranitidine and Cisapride liquid compounded meds, Westiemum. I can't use tablets because there is nothing I can disguise them in . The Cisapride has to be kept in the frig and the first supply of Ranitidine is still going. I was managing some of the time to give him Periactine in peanut butter, but I would regularly find that dumped on the floor somewhere. The Periactine was just a trial to see if it would increase his appetite, but as it made no difference, I have stopped that as of Sunday. The others are vital to trying to get him well again, so can't afford for them to be hit or miss. BUT, thanks to your post, I am going to ask if they can be combined. It would mean fewer syringes of meds for him. I will ask my chest today and also what they charge for Ranitidine. -
What Food Can Your Dog Not Resist?
Loving my Oldies replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not really, Coogie. I suggested that perhaps going back to meds 3 times a day and he agreed with that. So back to early mornings to fit everything in as one of the meds that he is to have 3 times needs to be clear of others by an hour each way. I thought of you and Ronin this afternoon, Yonjuro. I passed a fast food shop and a husky was lying just inside the door while his owner broke up a couple of sausages - dog was beautifully behaved and waited until chap said he could eat. -

Can't remember who was so brave LOL :o Things aren't going so well here, more bad/not eating/throwing up days than not. Back to the vet today and judging from the daily log I've been keeping Danny was doing better when he was on meds three times a day, so we are going back to that. The extraordinary thing is that he isn't losing weight still weighing in at 5.4kgs. And no, there is never food left lying about that he can be sneaking LOL. I've been reading through the suggetions again and am going to try what Rural Pug suggested a while ago about mixing some of his favourite food with hot water and pouring that over his prescribed food. The only "favourite" is cat food, but that was making him sick, but maybe just a little bit mixed in water will do the trick. I had to go back to syringing, but he just kept throwing up. A few nights ago, I had boiled up a chicken and while I stripped off the meat, I kept feeding him pieces and he ate more than I've seen him eat in one sessions for weeks. But since then, he won't touch it, even warmed up and hand fed. He kept it all down, so he can't have associated being sick with it. I think he is having occasional incontinence as yesterday and today there was a wet spot on the couch where we'd been lying . -

Re the emboldened - no, SASH sends out to a company called Bovac. Thank you, VM. He isn't a well doggy and all this is taking its toll on my poor little man. He is much whiter on the muzzle that he was a few months ago.
