Pix of Bunter's wound. Not gruesome, just very big. When I commented on the number of stitches, the vet said: you should see those inside  GRRR --- I am getting so frustrated with my iMac. I can't find photos on it. They seem to be saved automatically in so many different places. I actually found the ones I took, but when I went to select them for this post, I can't find them anywhere. :mad

I think you have "one of those dogs" StressMagnet.  Ernie sounds a true delight and if what he is doing that is "naughty" doesn't really create real problems for you (although I do understand that having a shredded pillow decorating a house might be a problem), I think just rejoice in having such a fun dog. My "weapon" is a rolled up newspaper, taped around so it doesn't disintegrate, and which lives on top of the frig. I haven't used it in yonks, but my dogs are all getting old. All I'd do with that is to give it a good hard whack on the table or on the deck railing and dogs would stop whatever it was they were doing and come to me. Ernie sounds delicious

I don't even think of my purse anymore, LG. If I inadvertently do, I get a little bit hysterical so it is best to try not to.  Danny has had a little bit of a problem with his eyes for a few years and has been on drops for quite some time, but I blame something that happened when he first went into SASH for the problems with his left eye. First of all when he was discharged, he had a small gash on his eyelid, after that healed, he had a stye and then when that healed, the ulceration and crystalisation became worse. All of these were treated, but eventually, his left eye became too bad for what the vet was doing and needed surgical intervention. The surgeon actually did what my vet was doing, but more aggressively and with specialist equipment. As he was booked in for this operation on Wednesday, and I had a few days to prepare, I am very angry with myself that I didn't get onto getting another sort of cone immediately. Danny has a few more days of having to wear the plastic cone because of my lack of preparedness. :mad with myself. Bunter came to me with a small cyst on his tummy which, over the years, had grown to almost three times the size and has burst a couple of times. This time, it kept leaking from different places and I figured it would just keep happening and had it all cut away. The stuff that would come out of it was pretty gross and I should not be responding to your post while I am eating my lunch

Thanks, DobieMum. That is what I was originally asking about, but on closer inspection of them and watching what Danny actually does, I realised that that sort of cone wouldn't provide protection for his eye - that is he would be able to rub his face on it. He has a had a contact lens inserted in his eye where he had the debriding operation and my big worry is that he could flip it out if he rubs at all (which does happen). It is not just keeping his paws away from it, it is more the fact that he rubs his face on mats and bedding and I am pretty sure he would just use the soft cone as a rubbing mat. Having the lens dislodged must happen a lot as I was given some solution and a little bottle to put it in if that happens and I actually find it So far, the plastic cone is working, but it is an inconvenience to him.

Thank you.A bit hesitant to say things are going well, normally get smashed after I admit that :) We are good at jinxing ourselves You are giving those lovely dogs of yours such a great time.

Thanks, Coogie. I've ordered the Provisor with tinted plastic - LOL. Danny is not supposed to be exposed to heavy sunlight, so I thought that would be the way to go. I sent a photo of Danny to the chap and he thought that Danny would be Toy sized (I don't think so) and he said he would send me one of each toy and small and to give the one that didn't fit to my vet. How lovely is that. Danny is getting lots of pats and cuddles and I've told him that the latest are from you.
-
Aren't you sweet - thank you. You would have laughed earlier this evening. Danny actually ate a small NORMAL meal - the first one for ages. Actually ate it - he didn't just pick up pieces and drop them on the floor. I was so surprised and happy that my first thought was to post about it. So thank you for giving me the excuse LOL. :o I'm just back from the vet to bring Bunter home. OMG. The vet brought out his iPad to show me the photos of the operation. Bunter's wound is about 5 inches wide with a heap of stitches inside and out. However, he is his usual self: quiet, good natured and unperturbed. The vet didn't have a soft collar that would fit Danny, sadly, but he is being very stoic, too. The medications and ointments regime in this household has reached ridiculous proportions

I've ordered one - that you so much. If I'd had my wits about me I would have realised he would need protection for a while. He has been good with the cone though and eats and drinks without difficulty. Eats = laps his bone meal and goodies shake. LOL. Raineth, I'll ask my vets if they have the soft ones, because it will be Monday at the earliest before I get the Provizor. I didn't even think of that. Thank you both.

Does anyone know where I can buy one of these soft cones. I could easily buy one on the internet, but I wanted to see one before buying, as I am not sure they would fit the bill. My Danny Dog had an eye procedure yesterday and even before that he would rub his face and eye on beds and mats and I can't see that a soft cone would stop that. He isn't doing too badly with the normal plastic cone, but I would prefer something that could reduce his discomfort. He is almost blind in the eye so judging distances in terms of going through doors, etc is proving a bit bumpy for him. Ideas and experiences would be appreciated. :)

Thank you, ladies. I sure hope it is a turning point Beautiful sunshine day except I didn't get to see it until nearly 10am (Sydney time, not DOL time  ) although I when I woke up at 7am I leapt out of bed so I could give Dann his first lots of eyes drops X four. So time to get cracking. Have to wash the deck as Bunter and Tamar won't downstairs when it is raining:( Something is going on in Dan Dan's head - although I think it might be age related - because he has decided that the neighbourhood needs a good ticking off and he is going around the place (side pathways first, then front door and now the back yard) barking his head off. Maybe he is calling on someone to rescue him from this terrible woman who, as well as squeezing things into his eyes several times as day, and syringing horrible tasting stuff down his throat even more times a day, she has now compounded her iniquities by putting a plastic thing around his head stopping him from rolling and rubbing his face. Another day, another throw up. -

Danny is as bright as a button except for having to wear a cone to stop him rubbing his eye. He is on three different sorts of ointments/drops: two four times a day and one twice a day. Never was a little dog more medicated  More drama!! I was sitting at the table planning when to leave to collect Danny allowing for the rain and traffic when I saw Bunter scratching at his tummy, I turned him over and saw that he had burst his cyst again and gunk was leaking everywhere. So wrapped him in a towel and dropped him off at my vet and then drove down to collect Danny. After I'd collected Danny, I expected an inch by inch crawl back up the Pacific Highway to my vet for Bunter. Not so. Where had all the traffic gone? I just drove at a steady pace the whole way stopping only at traffic lights. Extraordinary. That morning in the pouring rain it had been solid bumper to bumper all the way down. Anyway, Bunter's vet confirmed what I was thinking and that is that they need to remove the cyst otherwise he will keep breaking it open. So he is staying there o/night and will have his operation tomorrow. So I am taking several valium and going to bed. Joking actually, I don't have any valium - just figuratively. -

My stomach has been in knots for the last couple of days leading up to Danny's eye operation. Although my appointment wasn't until 10am, I left home at 8.30am - pouring with rain, back to school travellers, Pacific Highway, etc etc. Danny slept the whole way on the back seat, bless him. So I arrived just before 10am expecting to met the specialist who would be performing the operation, only to be told, "Oh she doesn't come in until much later." So why was I told to be there at 10am to meet her? The specialist whom I saw on Friday, specifically said, be here at 10am and XXXX will come out to see you and you can tell her all about Danny's hernia, reflux, etc etc. I was seen by a couple of the nurses who would be assisting with Danny and while we were going through all his background, meds, etc etc, I noticed mistakes on his admission sheet. The worst one considering his age and frailness was that they had him down as one !! Admittedly you would only need to look at him to realise that was a mistake, but even so. Not a great start. However, I've now heard from the specialist who performed the operation and he has come through well, but, due to his history, she didn't put him under a full anaesthetic. She is hopeful (??) that the procedure she has carried out will be sufficient. I will be picking him up at 5pm this evening. -
Oh boy, is she having fun. Great photos. She looks a real personality girl.

Beautiful. I hope you and she have many many very happy years together.

Dog In Deep Grief; Any Ideas For Recover?
Loving my Oldies replied to suziwong66's topic in General Dog Discussion
How sad. I have found it very hard when you are dealing with you own grief and to know that a dog is grieving too. Really hits home the extent of the loss. I agree with the others. It can take time. -
Oh she is gorgeous. She has quite a lot of hair all over really, doesn't she. Totally scrumptious.

Oh no!!! That poor little darling. He must have been in so much pain and so sick. RIP little Merlin.

Ben and Jerry's ice cream and a good book. To hell with the costs - this is survival mode. X Ladies, ladies!! Ice cream is a dirty dirty word in this household. I was buying tubs of it hoping Danny would eat a little bit and guess who'd sit at the table scoffing the lot. I had managed to get down to 69.5kg and I am back up to 73kg. Thanks Shirra. My flurries are my family - what can you do   -

Forget about the gorgeous boy - what about his owner? Has it been hot? I've been inside all day in the air-conditioning watching the tennis. January and February are my do nothing months. And my electricity bills are horrendous.
