  1. good question myszka - I normally stop when I think I'm going to fall over but thats just me proving how unfit I am ;)
  2. you lost me! if he catches it - do I just drop the ball? also he's doing a sit/drop even when I dont ask it - like in the middle of spinning, he'll suddenly sit/drop. Should I keep spinning or reward him with the toy?
  3. how would you stop the spinning then if no sits/drops allowed?
  4. it's more of a toy question - we give them a toy to keep them quiet Is this wrong???
  5. Harley does the helicopter thing with the ball and the lead in his mouth. Eventually he gets annoyed and drops the lead first and then the ball. anyone wonder how these dogs dont get dizzy? They must think we're crazy!!
  6. when we're home I ignore the whining but we noticed (by accident) that when Harleys bored at home, he'll whine (he's outside) - then he'll start standing up against all the fences and look over at what the neighbours are doing. We're making the fences higher now - dont want any complaints from the neighbours
  7. my boy whines when he's bored... I'm awaiting words from the wise too myszka
  8. I must have missed that somehow - NO TOYS ;) He's home alone all day - wont he get bored
  9. I hate distractions!!!! Harley is fine as long as theres nothing (and I mean nothing) around.... Anyway got a training session booked in for him this weekend - a start in the right direction at least. Still I think one values a well behaved dog even more when you have the pleasure of living with a badly behaved dog!! (Note: I'm still blaming the owners - not the dog)
  10. I'm ok with "Beautiful" We've only been doing it for a few days now... his sits are not very fast though - how long before I can get a fast sit?
  11. I'm really happy for you... I have a little brat that wont listen at all when on a walk... maybe one day he'll be like Bella
  12. tell me about it.... I'm so buggered after "drive time" but Harley loves it
  13. will take pictures of him going after the ball over the weekend - he loves it ! Questions time please K9: After we spin and I say sit, he sits and then I throw the ball for him and he has a play but then as soon as I pick up the lead to helicopter him and he drops the toy and goes straight for the lead. He drops the lead as soon as he sees the toy in my hand though. Just not sure why he does this?? (He's done this the last two nights....) Thanks Gillian
  14. Almost the same thing here... I tried drive training the Sunday after Steves workshop in VIC and Harley loved it but we were so focussed on his "walking on a lead" issue that we put drive training on hold. Last night I thought maybe drive training would improve his focus on me (and maybe that would help him focus on me when outside too - eventually). So I decided to give drive training another go... I pulled our little ball and string toy out of its hiding place (Harley has seen it once, almost a month ago) and Harley went crazy... I couldnt believe that he actually remembered the toy!!! He absolutely loved it - he took a few times before he realised that he needed to sit when I asked to get the toy but he worked it out. The cheeky boy even tried turning in the opposite direction from me to get the toy!! When we do the heilcopter though he dropped the toy and then chewed on the lead (till he realised I had the toy and was ready to go again). Is this normal?? Once we were over I had the hardest time getting the toy inside - Harley was lunging for it and jumping up - I completely understand when people say drive training hurts!!!! - Gillian
  15. did they have on a prong collar? or was this happening on a flat collar??? Thanks Gillian
  16. hey we're going to need to organise another Melbourne workshop if Steve's got a new method of training that we're missing out on
  17. would it be right to say Steve, that the main thing (while useing other styles of training) is not to discourage the dog from being "in drive" when around you?? Seita - defnitely go to one of Steve's workshops... It will help you understand a lot of things... - Gillian
  18. ok for all those interested in how Harley and me went at the K9 Force workshop on Friday.... Steve worked with Harley for a few minutes.. first worked him on a check chain and he was alright but probably not the best... then Steve put him on a prong collar and I cant even beigin to tell you how wonderfully Harley walked on it. only problem now is that prong collars are illegal in Victoria... Cheers Gillian
  19. Hi all, Lablover sorry to hear the sad news about your mum... Fridays workshop was absolutely awsome... good to see other DOLers there too. Fido666 I was next to you on your left ;) I had the Dane that got sent home in the morning - but he came back after the workshop for Steve to have a look at him. Scope would love a copy of that DVD please.. Cheers Gillian
