Dog Hearing Tests, Where To Get Them Done In Brisbane?
jellybean replied to CollieLover1979's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had two White Boxer pups BAER tested at UQ about three years ago. They do a wonderful job and the process is fascinating. My two were both unilaterally deaf and went to lovely pet homes. It is very reasonably priced for the breeder, I think I paid only $25 per pup at 6 wks. -
Hi Gumnut My OH made me a trailer a couple of years ago. I really liked the Icecube trailers (made from cool room panelling) so he made one similar. The panelling was very reasonable, we purchesed it from Retracom here in Qld, and they will cut it to your specs even the door holes. It stays very cool and the dogs travel well in it.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Jane. Karen -
We have a Nissan Pathfinder and have found it a great size. It is a seven seater but you can fold everything down to have a huge space in the back but even with only the two rear seats down there is a lot of room in the back. I have found it very economical but my previous car was a Triton dual cab that was very thirsty

Mast Cell Tumour Without Chemo Treatment
jellybean replied to MolassesLass's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi molasseslass I had a Boxer that had a Grade II cutaneous mast cell tumour removed from her side at the age of six. She did have another removed from the thin skin between bone and tendon on her back leg approx a year later but I did not have this tested. The first one was 12mm in diameter and the excised skin measured 60 x 40 mm. Bonnie lived to the age of 13 and never had a recurrence. Cheers Karen -
Hi Malisa I'm glad to hear Mason is ok, what a scare for you and Craig!! I will try and catch up with Craig on Saturday. Cheers Karen

Hi Banjotheboxer Congratulations on your new addition  Did the vet check a stool sample when the pup was there? Worms should show up if he has them. He could also check for coccidiosis which I believe can cause symptoms like you have described and can be treated. Good Luck

On Friday I had to make a very hard decision to put to sleep my first Boxer, Bonnie. She was born on 22/05/1994. We had her for a wonderful 13 1/2 years. She was the perfect playmate, pillow and walking frame for my children and a special friend for me. I'm sorry it took me so long to let you go I miss you my Bonnie girl

Jack Had A Grade 3 Mast-cell Tumour
jellybean replied to Mooper's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Mooper My old Boxer girl (13 1/2 now) had a grade II mast cell tumour removed 10/03/2000 and another later that year. She is still with us and has never had any further treatment. I had a wonderful vet who was took good margins around the sites (5cm from memory). The report stated a pale tan mass 12mm in diameter was removed. The excision appeared complete and the tumour fell around the middle spectrum of malignancy. They gave a cautiously optimistic prognosis with periodical inspection of the surgical site due to the possibility of local recurrence. Hope this is of some help to you and wishing you all the best with Jack. Karen -
Thanks Malisa I might see you tonight if you are going to Durack. Karen

Hi MM No it wasn't Rogue, but she told me that she had met someone at obedience and I guessed it was you Staff'n'Toller (Mel) I am now thinking he has picked up a nasty virus and just happened to have a sore back(probably from playing too hard at puppy preschool) at the same time. He hasn't had any metacam since Wednesday morning and is back to his old self apparently. He will finish his course of antibiotics and hopefully that will be the end of it. Thank you for your help Karen
-
Thanks Mel I haven't heard of those conditions in Boxers before but will let the owner know of them. I spoke to the owner last night and he was much better. I just got home from work so I will give her a ring shortly and find out how he went overnight. I also suggested a specialist as it would be good to have a definate diagnosis. Cheers Karen

One of the pups from my last litter (4 months of age) was taken to the vets late yesterday. He was very stiff apparently and couldn't walk and had a temp of 41. On examination the vet found that an area on his spine, just in front of his hips, was sore. He was given a double dose of metacam and some antibiotics with a possible diagnosis of Discospondylitis. He has responded well to the treatment and has been walking around this morning but he is still quite weak and is resting a lot. He went to puppy preschool on Monday night and was playing and running around normally. On Tuesday morning he was quiet but by the afternoon had deteriorated. The owners were very worried by his condition. Has anyone experienced symtoms like these before or had a pup diagnosed with Discospondylitis? Thank You Karen

The compost cages are great I am using three joined together for my Boxer pups at the moment I got mine from Bunnings at Morayfield a few weeks ago.

I love the book The New Dog Owners Manual by Dr Karen Hedberg. She is an Australian vet and the book is my bible I got it from The Royal NSW Canine Council www.rnswcc.org.au

Another Vaccination Question
jellybean replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I won't ever use the nasal spray. I have heard of a lot of Boxers who develop a cough after the spray and two pups from my last litter were given the spray(against my advice) after they went to their new homes and both ended up with coughs and on antibiotics. -
Hi Molasseslass My old Boxer had this problem, she was desexed at six months and developed the problem at about 4 from memory( she is 13 now) The vet prescribed Stilboestrol(sp) can't remember the exact dosage but it was higher at the beginning then just as needed. I only used the drug a few times over the years and haven't used it now for approx 6 yrs. She still leaks occasionally but not like she did back then. I don't recall that it was very expensive but my memory is not that good. Karen

I use polaramine for my boxers

Hi Shellybeggs One of my Boxers had what sounds like the same thing. A vet did tell me at the time that if it is small and reducible (meaning able to be pushed back in ) that it would be ok. He also said to gently push it back in when you are playing to help it close over. I did this when she was little. She is now 4 and shows no sign of it.
