This is sort of what I envisioned. She is day 3 and they are a bit flirty. I think early next week we will seperate and then see what happens on friday, that should be day 9. I'm not prog testing so am relying on them. My girl is very unlikely to tell him to piss off as she is submissive and loves his attention. Even now she is all over him and her only way of saying no is to lie down bless her :)

Thanks Flatchat. That was what I was thinking but just wanted some confirmation. I'm a tad nervous :D

I am interested to know what breeders do when their bitch and dog live in the same house. This (if all goes to plan) will be my first litter. In the past, obviously, the dog and bitch have been seperated, but as I intend for them to mate, what protocols do you follow? Do you leave them together till she is receptive and then only allow conjugal visits? Do you leave them to it (with supervision) for the entire time? I imagine the latter would end up with exhausted dogs but I am interested to hear of what others do. Cheers

Congratulations! Looks like it was a fun day

I have only felt this way with 2 judges. The first one was because the judge showed absolutely no interest in my breed/dog at all and was more interested in watching the dogs in the next ring, totally disrespectful! The other judge I have blacklisted as they obviously had no idea of of our breed and put up a dog with such outstanding faults it was laughable and that was from a supposed experienced group judge.

Hey Ellz, did you order from Peperone's or somewhere local?

Big Dogs And Injuries/ Health Problems
Hounder replied to wantsapuppy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lilli I have Deerhounds. I know I did generalise my comment but in doing research over the years on my breed, I keep reading that all giant breeds can be prone to these issues. Funnily enough I don't think of Deerhounds as being a giant breed, more an XL :) but that is what they come under. -
Thanks guys. Won't stress about getting different colours then :)

Big Dogs And Injuries/ Health Problems
Hounder replied to wantsapuppy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a giant breed and the 3 main health issues apart from growth issues are Osteosarcoma, cardiomyopathy and bloat. These 3 main killers can be present in all giant breeds but that isn't to say that all dogs will get one of these, just that they are more prone to them. Breeders (I hope) do their best to try and breed away from these issues but sometimes they are just "there". -
I did a search on dry bed/vetbed and noticed that in some posts that there can be a difference in the texture of the dry bed as in that some said that it was soft and cosy and that others said that theirs were stiff and not as soft as expected. I was wondering if this may have anything to do with the different colours. I'm planning on buying some of the non rubber backed soon and apart from the original blue, I was looking at getting some different colours. Any opinions? Cheers

We do live on a sloping property so this might work well. Thanks Alyosha

Thanks Kaffy Magee. My bitch is around 38kg and my dog is 52kg. I was contemplating a fresh AI but it doesn't seem to take well with this breed.

Thank you for the replies. The breed is Deerhounds. My bitch is just shy of 30" and my boy is 35". I did ask our vet regarding his weight on top of her and he said that the dog will put most of his weight on his hind legs rather than on her. Thank you Dancinbcs for the info. I was told that they would produce a mixture rather than averaging out...shame.

Hi all, This may seem like a sily question but it is one that has been bugging me for some time. I am planning on mating my dog and bitch at her next season. My dog is a good 5 inches or so taller than the bitch. My concern is that when they tie, is this going to be a problem for either the dog or bitch? I know that there have been some weird and wonderful crosses with incredible size differences, but it is something that has been worrying me. Cheers

Not joking, just couldn't imagine it. Now my retinas are scarred for life What am I saying? My retinas are already scarred, hence my vision issues. This has just tripled the issue :D
