Hi Bindii, I have PM'ed you some details.
-
A show is different to an obedience trial. A show you put them in alphabetical order, obedience you put in height order for open and ud and dogs first bitches afterwards. As I said I personally do the UD and Open classes first and then the multiple entries. I then slot people in around everything else. How other clubs do it I couldn't tell you. If someone does put a note in I TRY to put them in first, put them in last, don't put them with this judge, put them with this judge. My last trial I ran I lost count of the notes put in with the entries. However if it is a valid one, eg "I have two passes with XX can you please put me in the other ring" or "just a note I'm handing this dog and this dog can you please put one first and one last" not a problem. A double that I'm talking about is AM Obedience trial and PM obedience trial and that its why if you are last in in the morning I try to put you first in in the afternoon. I think that is only fair. "If I fail I leave and dont stay for presentations." I always stay from presentations no matter if I pass or fail I feel its good sportsman ship and you show that you are supporting everyone that got a pass.

Speaking from a Trial Secretary point of view I always sort out UD and Open first as they are the ones with the heights and when possible I like to keep them in height order, either I go low to high or high to low. Then I move onto the muliple entries and put them in where they are less likely to clash for handlers and then I slot everyone else in. However as I run a double trial if your last in in the morning I try to make you first in in the morning. Trial Secretaries wouldn't have any idea what position you where in at any other trial. You say that its painful being there at 8am and not going into the ring until 11.30, what about the poor trial secretary and helpers that get there at 6/6:30 to set everything up and are still there way after everyone has left packing everything up and they quite often have their dog there trialling as well.... And personally shouldn't you be staying for presentations anyway??

Congratulations everyone. I have a small brag, no pass card however Bosco my airhead Golden Retriever had a great Novice Jumping run today. His first ever in a trial and almost got around the course. If it wasn't for that tunnel who knows!!

Just a small brag from me today. I had my young (well 3.5yrs) Golden entered in novice at our club's members comp today and walked out with a lovely heeling score of 34 out of 40. I was wrapped with this as heeling is something that I have been really working on with him. SO.. I've got from failing heeling very badly.. getting 8's and 10's to a 34 today. My next actual trial is June Queen's Birthday weekend so hopfully all my hard work will show in the ring.

I've got 4 dogs in my house and one dog gets different food to everyone else. The dogs don't care as long as they are getting fed. If it's better for your pup to be fed something different then I in my opinion that's what you should be doing. If it makes you feel better feed them in different areas.

I've finally got something to brag about. My two dogs last night trained wonderfully and are now not far off entering a jumping trial. Now they are even starting to listen to me and not do their own course. I was just thrilled with them!!

Contact Bernie Wilkinson. He is the one the makes them for quite a few clubs around victoria. I know that I get them for Werribee.

2009 Training/title Wish List
Eliteview Aussies replied to Ptolomy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
For Bosco I would love for him to put those brains to use in a ring and get his Novice Obedience Title. I would also like to get his AD and JD this year! For Summer who isn't my dog but who I train and trial in Agility I would like to get her JD and maybe her AD if I get time to work on those colours.... -
It has to be a Border Collie thing as my nan's border collie does it as well. Why do a drop stay if she can do a sit? She tells us she can see so much more sitting up!
-
My most hated exercise depends which dog I'm trialling. With my old girl (Border Collie) I hated the drop stay, apparently it was more fun to sit and watch everything that was going on. With my Golden I hate the heeling. He has never been a great one for heeling and is going through a bad patch atm.
-
I currently do COP in Novice as Bosco's dumbbell isn't 100% yet.
-
Not that I'm there yet but I have taught Bosco both and will most likely do change of position however will just see on the day when I get to the trial.
-
With my border collie I tended to lob it just far enough. She was one that would only go a short distance. With my goldie I'm teaching him that it doesn't matter how far I throw it he has to go get it so I'm hurling his dumbbell.
-
I've noticed with my young goldie who I've only just started to do dumbell with turns to the right and scoops it up while he is turning. Though last night he did manage to fall over in his hurry to turn grab the dumbell and get back to me all at the speed of light....
-
I've always taught our dogs to return over the solid jump no matter where the dumbell is. I find also it helps that because I do agility with my dogs they learn to jump the jump on an angle and not only straight on.
-
Nice retrieve dogdude. Do people prefer wooden or plastic dumbbells and why? I prefer a wooden one but thats only because I seem to be able to throw them better. However saying that both my dogs only really like the wooden ones.

Halti Vs Choke Chain
Eliteview Aussies replied to Peachy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I also use a martingale on my dogs. They don't seem to pull on it and I think its a better option then a halti or choke chain. -
New Puppy For A 2.5 Yr Old Border
Eliteview Aussies replied to bret's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I had the same sort of problem when we introduced a new puppy into our house and therefore into my border's life. For the first month if the puppy (a GR) came into a room my border collie would leave, if the GR came to close to me the border would have a little growl. I just had to wait until my border got use to the puppy. I agree with PF, don't tell your border off. She doesn't know what she is doing wrong and will start to think that you are telling her off because the puppy is around her. I always made sure when the GR was around the Border someone was there keeping on eye on things and if the GR got to annoying someone stepped in. The Border has learnt that the GR isn't that bad after all and now they play together all the time. -

What fantastic shots. I especially like the middle one with the windmill in it. -
