From a judges point of view - you can only choose ONE winner. So while you might think the judge did not like your dog.......that may not be true! You can only choose ONE BOB, ONE BIG, etc etc, so someone else has to be a looser. You can sometimes have to make many nice dogs loosers on the day. Does not mean you dont like them, or consider them "rubbish". That's just an old saying.

What Is The Best Brush/comb For Pug Coats?
Rysup replied to Bluefairy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep Furminator. Check out ebay, they are much cheaper than in stores. -
Very interesting read!

I show three breeds at times. Keeshonds & Lhasas are both in Group 7 or course, but we also have Amstaffs. It works ok at breed level (unless the groups are split) as Amstaffs are first up, and the others are normally closer to lunchtime. But if we win with the Amstaffs I often have trouble with groups clashing with breeds etc. So I dont tend to show the Amstaffs close to home, only when we go out to the smaller country shows.

Saw My First South African Boerboel Today!

I did the website for a Sydney breeder - lots of great info on the breed in there http://www.ataraxia.ozehosting.com/ -
Most of my bitches are 5 or more when they have their first and only litter. At 7 they would need to be extremely fit, healthy, sound and have had a reason for not being mated earlier. It's risky, but I dont think that much riskier than an earlier age. I've know Lhasa bitches to have their first litter older than that, so it really depends on the breed too.

I used to groom litter sister whippets. They were about 13 when the first one passed, the other followed a few short weeks later. If they have never been alone I would be wanting to introduce a new pack member at some stage so that if one passes there is someone else still there to fill that void.

Lhasa Apso, if they are strong, confidant people. If they are push overs, the Lhasa will take over the house! LOL

Our Amstaff sits on your feet, and my Lhasa girl Daisy is also a feet sitter (well she tries anyway!)
-
I've known of 2 Lhasa Apsos who were PTS at 24. My current oldies are 15 1/2 Lhasa, and a 14 year old Keeshond.

Comfortis user here too. I too hate using chemicals on my dogs, so I only use it over summer. Works the best. Frontline is next to useless, and I found Advantage stopped working last year too.

Have used sulphur a few times over the years. I keep a copy of an article on my website about it. http://www.rysup.com/thecure.html

How long have you had her? I would tell them that she needs a few months to settle in before she can see them again. And then yes, at a park, not at your home. It's not fair on the dog at all!

Ooh thanks Sway, might have to buy myself one

At 12 weeks, as long as you can clearly feel both, without having to dig to China, then I would not worry. They will drop down. If you cannot feel one of them, then there is a chance it wont come down on its own.

Mine was not my first choice either, but the "Ry" was in honour of my mentor who started me in the breed (Rymiska) and Rysup was just one of the choices we put on the list! It's grown on me over the years.

I will be starting my own venture into Boston's in the next 12 months, as I want a dog my son can take into handlers that doesnt have hair Good luck! My suggestion is to choose a breeder and make them your mentor - they will develop a relationship with you and be more likely to trust you with main registered stock.

Gayle I am so sorry to hear this news. RIP Benson

I am sure we have all heard of people who submitted 50 or 100 names and had them all rejected.

Nutro Natural Choice is what I use. I have tinned here but not checked those - assume they are also wheat free.

Ridiculous Quote For Puppy Transportation Or Not?
Rysup replied to suziwong66's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've always lodged the dogs with AAE myself. No trouble at all. -
Well done Fifi! How much to "buy" one for those of us who were unlucky?

I use a toolbox with compartments in the lid for the leads. I've had wooden grooming boxes, and Ive used a Pedigree cooler bag, but the toolbox is easiest. Its not too heavy, but its solid so the brushes and things in the top dont get damaged by heavy things on top of it.

Tricky one. Personally I would either be contacting a few local breeders (maybe your breeder can recommend some) with the same breed who might be able to puppy sit him while your partner is so sick. Or the other option for me would be to find a local elderly person/couple who do not have a dog, but might like to be "grandparents" to your puppy and take him in when you are away. I used to groom dogs for a lot of elderly people and they simply adore them. Many would not want a dog long term but might be more than happy to be grandparents. Just an idea. Hope your partner recovers soon!

Hd On A Pup Who Is Only 16 Weeks Old?
Rysup replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd rather be looking into the Stem Cell Therapy thing. From what I understand its cheaper, and works pretty well. I groom a Goldie who had it done and she has no problems as an older dog.
