  1. Definately swap to Advantage/Advantix. I read a report that said the vacuum kills fleas just as effectively as any chemical, so vacuum lots. And yep Capstar is a godsend, so keep some on hand at all times!
  2. I used to groom a CKCS who broke his tail and had to have it amputated Probably not a common thing though, I would hope.
  3. We had a huge flea outbreak here and the only thing that works is Advantage. We've sprayed the yards and all that, but that didnt really help, so now all the dogs are on Advantage, and I can always tell when its time to re-do it, because the fleas come back with a vengence! Good luck!
  4. I have 2 puppies left from my litter and they are 11 weeks now. They play very roughly at times, and its all a learning curve - they learn the boundaries, when to push, when not to push, and I would say its all play at 8 weeks. I can look terribly rough and sound awful, but its all "play" at that age. If you are having them both desexed I would not expect any trouble from having two bitches together. All sounds normal to me!
  5. Are you sure its not just coat changes making them scratch? Or a hayfever sort of thing? Advantage is the only one that works for me.
  6. I would go Advantix rather than Frontline, as your vet is correct, it does not work in Sydney anymore.
  7. Oh Pomquest I am so sorry to hear about Fairy Princess - I have been following your battle to save her. RIP little baby.
  8. thanks KitKat, I will try him on it - I have to order this months treatments so will upgrade him and see how it goes. Does it work the full month or does it wear off earlier?
  9. The dog in question has fear aggression issues with everyone except myself and my OH. I dont trust him around our son, and our son is just at that age where he has a fascination with getting into crates and trolleys. I just dont understand why he is the ONLY one to cop it.....
  10. Unfortunately that is not an option at this time.
  11. Sorry Pax, yes fly bitten, if he had maggots I think he would have no ears left.
  12. Thanks everyone! We have been doing Vaseline morning and night the last 2 days and its helping, but if it gets hot again I think we will have more trouble. We have fly traps, we spray the yards and kennels, but after the bad storms and then all this rain, the flies seem to be coming from nowhere. We have the purple spray to prevent infection, but yes his ears are already fly blown. It's nasty stuff let me tell you!
  13. We've done Vaseline ruthless, would only really work if I reapplied it 10 times a day, which just is not practical. He is the only dog in the yard they touch. Thanks sheree, I will get some and give it a try.
  14. Our first Amstaff's ears are being eaten off his head! Nothing we try seems to work and after this weekend, he is a real mess. I am sure we have tried everything, but has anyone got any suggestions for us to try?
  15. I just googled it, and you measure from the end of the finger rest (if you have one) to the tip of the blade, and that gives you the size. My scissors are Jaguar brand, made in Germany, cost me $100 about 15 years ago and I have not had them sharpened yet, though I dont use them as much as you would on a Poodle
  16. That does not look like flea dirt to me, and while Frontline might have an inhibitor in it, it does not work. I find Advantage much better.
  17. I agree with Sandra. If you dont mind the fact you may not win, go along to some shows, you never know you might really catch the bug and then you will do all the proper research and get a show quality puppy later on. Everyone has to start showing somewhere, and not everyone is lucky enough to start with a top winning dog.
  18. I have found Great Barko is good at putting the weight onto my Amstaffs.
  19. I would NEVER use the Pro Heart injection - so many dogs react to it, and I can only imagine what putting 12 months worth of drugs into the system would do!
  20. I would not worry about it - putting her under again could mean she does not wake up. Sounds like her time left is limited, and unless the growth starts to be major trouble I would leave it alone.
  21. I only ever used a #7 blade in all my years as a groomer, thats plenty short enough if you ask me.
  22. excellent news! Yeah I dont use conditioner on my Kees, just shampoo, often just woolwash.
  23. Peter is just lovely, and he is very very good. I know people rave about George, so he must have trained his son very well. Let us all know how you go Lynlovesdogs!
