I think if the infection is in the bone, then amputation may be the only way to stop it spreading.

I'd have the dog checked out by a chiro/muscle manipulator before I did too much.

Information About Parvo Outbreaks And Affected Areas
Rysup replied to Odette's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I vaccinate at 8 weeks and rehome at 10. And yes if you vaccinate before their maternal antibodies have gone, then you are wasting your time. -
She looks like a Shih Tzu to me. Its spelt Lhasa Apso by the way You need to set the house rules about the dog. Things like no table scraps or treats, so she will end up the size of a house. Maybe post them on the fridge or something. I would not force her on the older dog. Let them be - if he wants to stay away then so be it. If you push it you may make him more aggressive towards the puppy. As to the toileting thing........not sure I can help. Just take her out as much as possible and as soon as she does a poo, praise her like mad. Good luck!

I have a food stealer here - he is 4 months old!! He would eat until he burst, but then probably throw up and keep going!

I use #1 All Systems Whitening & Brightening Shampoo, it was really good. But I found with grooming, its not the shampoo you use, its how long you leave it on. The longer you leave it on, the better job it will do. So lather up and let Jedda sit for 10 minutes and you should have nice white bits again. And yes the Sards is good stuff too, I always had a bar of it in my grooming business.

If you are happy for them to sleep on the bed forever after, then no issues! If you are likely to change your mind any time in the near future, I would get them their own beds.

I have bitches who wee on their beds.....and I have caught them in the act so its not incontinence! I dont know why they do it.......but they do!

Pulling Out Tufts Of Fur By Hand
Rysup replied to samoyedman's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Very very very normal! It is the BEST therapy for me, to sit and hand pluck a Keeshond! LOL Once or twice a year they do it.......My guys normally start early December. I dont worry about stripping it too much, but when the undercoat has started to lift from the skin, then I give them a nice warm bath and blow dry. Just dont open your mouth when you are drying -
It should cover back over eventually. I have not had a dog permanently take the colour off their nose as yet.

I really think you have to take each case as it comes. Unfortunately a lot of my clients leave their dogs way too long, and they never put in any grooming time in between visits, which means a matted mess. A dog left until 12 months old with no grooming at home or from a groomer, will be a mess. I often dealt with them, it was like shearing a sheep. Ideally I would start puppies in for a bath, groom and trim, you can slowly get them used to the sights and sounds of being groomed, but in general I was never called in until the dog was dire.

I have some Eagle Pack here and that never even occured to me! LOL My dogs dont really like it much, so once this bag is gone I wont rush out and get it again. I only got it in an attempt to tempt a fussy bitch who was feeding puppies. Didnt work!

Mortal Combat (on The Flea Population)

Frontline does not work here for me, Advantage does. Currently testing Advantix. -
EP? Eukanuba Puppy is all I can think of LOL Sorry no help!

Lordy me, imagine a poodle after a year of no clipping? I think you are better to start early than to have to deal with a 12 month old who has NO experience with being groomed and clipped. I have never seen a coat turned to crap by starting hair cuts early.

I would imagine it is to save having another major op later on. Having had my own emergency caeser, I can say without doubt that if they had to desex me Id want it done at the same time, because its not a fun thing to go through!

Best Shampoo For Use In Hydrobath ? (rinsing Off)
Rysup replied to Strolinthparkarse's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use a few different things - last wash day I used a bottle of Aldi shampoo I often use wool wash. I have a dual tank, but we lost the plug that joined the two some time ago and I have not been able to find one the right size to replace it, so its being used as a single tank. I just shampoo and wash, then depending on the breed, either hose them off or use a bucket of water. -
We have one dog here who is attacked mercilously by the flies, and we have resorted to crating him indoors during the day. Its been the ONLY way to get his ears to start to heal. If I am late getting him inside in the mornings, the flies undo all the good healing we have done, in a matter of an hour. We are using paw paw cream on his ears when he is indoors, and vaseline, aeroguard, centragen......on him when he is out. I have just bought some Advantix to try instead of Advantage, to see if that helps keep the flies off him. He is the ONLY one out of 13 dogs here at present, who has any trouble with flies on his ears. They were a real mess, nasty, nasty stuff, and the paw paw cream has seen some impressive healing, but they are still not there yet. And I can tell you these flies BITE and they HURT!

I have an old dog here, just turned 12, who would have you think he is in agony when he is being groomed. He first started it about 5 years ago. But I have since worked out, he is just trying to bluff me, because he HATES the clippers. But if I dont let him put me off, he gives up on being a sooky la-la and lets me get it done. When he was a young boy and being shown, he did the same thing with having his nails cut. Carry on like nothing else. A friend took him aside, and made him do it, and since then he accepts it, just. I have groomed lazy, fat, sore dogs before and found the easiest way was to use a strap to hold them up, muzzle them if need be while doing the sore bits, and get it done as quick as you can. Best of luck!

The Raid spray we can no longer buy here in Sydney. Used to use it all the time, now the supermarkets dont stock it.
-
I'd do it myself, if it looked clean and not infected. One of my dogs cut their pad very deeply, had to be stitched, and we cut the stitches out ourselves

Well I was going to say Vasleline....however maybe try Paw Paw cream? It is doing brilliant things on our dogs flybite wounds in a matter of days.
