Drier Woes With 15 Week Old Pup .... Help
Rysup replied to NoodleNut's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you want to "practice" see if your vacuum can go in reverse......and use that on her. Its not as hot as a normal dryer, but still has the blow and noise. I just tend to hold the pup with one hand, and the nozzle of the dryer in the other and worry about any grooming once they are dry. They eventually learn to settle. My current baby hides his head over my shoulder, but thats fine, I just keep at it, and he has slowly started to just sit down and accept it all. My best dogs to blow dry are the ones who I bathed every week for the first 6 -12 months. The ones who I didnt bath every weekend, are no where near as good! -
Unless you are pretty good with an SLR I would just go with a high-end Compact. Thats what I did - ended up getting a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ 50 and I love it so far. I can use it like an SLR, but it can also do it all itself.

Drier Woes With 15 Week Old Pup .... Help
Rysup replied to NoodleNut's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I find it takes ages for young puppies to get used to the big dryer. I start early and use it very regularly. My pups are almost 6 months old and are only now starting to accept it. I have been bathing and drying them regularly since about 12 weeks old. Patience & perserverance is what it is all about! -
I feed Great Barko/Uncle Albers these days - costs me $30 a week to feed 13 dogs! I used to feed Coprice, but much prefer the Barko/Albers!!

Sharing Advantix Between Animals
Rysup replied to HigginsCrew's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I used to do it with Frontline, but have not tried with Advantage/Advantix. I used a syringe and would suck it all into that to measure it out properly. -
First Season, How Can I Make It Easier For Her?
Rysup replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Some bitches just go to pieces when they are in season and all you can do is leave them at home, I'm afraid. -
I have used Proban on a bitch, but not for flea or tick control, and I cannot say I noticed any side effects.

I learnt this from having a baby. Dry poo does NOT mean constipation. It means dry poo. As others have said, decrease the bone content and it should settle down and not be so dry and crumbly.

My Dogs Keep Jumping The Fence
Rysup replied to lovebug's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would be crating the dogs at night to start. Wont take them long to learn to hold it. I have just crate trained our 5 month old Amstaff who has had to be crated due to injury. After two weeks he is fantastic and only wants to go out twice each day. At first he wanted to go out 10 times a day! If you can afford it, I would buy a portable kennel run with a ROOF on it. Wont affect the house or resale value or anything, you can take it with you where ever you go. -
OMG Sammy I am so sorry to hear about Fergus. RIP little man

I used Pantene on my gold Lhasa's. On my black bitch she was best in #1 All Systems. For good drape I used LaserLites Silk, mixed with a little All Systems conditioner - gave a fantastic finish to the coat, made it drape beautifully. Unfortunately its all trial and error as every coat type needs a different approach.

Another Hydrobath Question ....
Rysup replied to Crits'N'Bits's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Why are you washing them every week? If I am showing every weekend, then yes they get a bath, but I dont use anything harsh. And when there are no shows, no baths unless they get particularly stinky. -
Hydrobaths, Double/single Tanks And Auto Fill
Rysup replied to cass_06's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
ok a double tank is generally used with one tank for washing water and the other for rinse water. If you are having it plumbed in with hot/cold water access available, then a single tank should suffice. If you wont have hot water nearby, then a double tank is good, so you can wash and rinse without having to refill the tank in between. Auto fill means that when you empty a tank, it refills on its own. Something that can be very handy. Does that help any? I have a double tank, but no auto refill and my heater died a few years ago, so we have to fill it with the hose and then add buckets of hot water. Pain in the butt let me tell you! I am saving for a new one, one day! -
When Do You Switch From Puppy Food To Adult Food?
Rysup replied to cassie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I took my puppies off puppy food around 9-10 weeks old. My amstaff baby who has massive bone and substance, has never had puppy food. Ever. -
Sydney here - changed to Advantage and its working brilliantly. We tried sprays for dogs, sprays for yard, Frontline spot on and spray etc. Nothing was working. They were in plague proportions. I gave everyone a capstar, a bath and Advantage and NO MORE FLEAS! If I see a flea, its usually around the end of the month, but as time goes on, I am finding it lasts longer. Maybe the fleas in the environment are dying off though?

Not really.....sorry! Though I guess I could say that two of my guys can go through a 5 litre bowl in a day, without too much worry.
-
Why would you want to revaccinate such a young puppy? I would wait until his 16 week vacc and leave it at that until 1 year. After that I dont re-vacc at all.

I am getting great results with Great Barko & Uncle Albers

Vets In Northmead/baulkham Hills - Sydney
Rysup replied to pennyw74's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I used to go to Chelsea Vet Clinic on Windsor Rd, Baulkham Hills. There is a new vet there now and I have no experience with them, but it was a great practice when I went there. -
Survey: How Long Does A Bag Of Dog Food Last You?
Rysup replied to jaegertheweim's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Breed and age: 7 Keeshonds (11 yrs thru to 4 mths), 3 Lhasa Apsos (12 yrs through to 3 yrs) & 3 Amstaffs (4 yrs through to 5 months) Product name, size and cost: Uncle Albers OR Great Barko 22 kgs $29.95 Daily amount fed: Kees get roughly 1.5 cups each, Amstaffs 2 cups, Lhasas get to graze How long does the bag last: 1 week Average cost of feeding/week: $30.00 not bad for 13 dogs, thats about $2.40 each dog per week. Anything to add: Dont often feed extras, except the Kees babies are getting a soft food & milk meal, which I have not included as I have no clue what that costs me! -

I am assuming his nails are black? Ok if you can, take a good look at them, turn them over. The under side has like a core that runs through them. When they get a bit long, that core near the end dries out, you can normally dig a little out. Dig out the dead stuff, it should just flake away. You can normally safely cut up to where that core ends, beyond that the quick is fresh and will bleed. I used this method to teach myself how much I could cut. Now days I dont even check, I just chop, but if you are unsure this is an easy way to train your eye. If you cant get that core to loosen, then just snip off the tip, about 1/2 - 1/4 of a CM, the tip grows down to the ground, so you can cut the upper part, if that makes sense.
