  1. I got our Amstaffs some "smoked shank bones" Im not sure how they treat them, but they smell much like a pigs ear, but last a fair bit longer. I also got my young boy a Cuz squeaky toy and he has yet to chew any bits off.
  2. I've had a dog that cut his pad so badly the whole pad was hanging on by a flap of skin. He had many stitches! I'd do the superglue too - Ive never had it irritate a dog as yet.
  3. I have only personally dealt with Demodectic, but a friend had Sarcoptic some years ago and nothing they did helped the bitch and in the end she had to be PTS! Anyway I would definitely quarantine or you risk it spreading. And I would keep them apart until its all healed and clear by skin scraping.
  4. Sorry but my desexed males have NEVER gone crazy over a bitch in season - that is WHY people desex their males. I have even desexed a 10 year old and after that he could run with the girls all year round without any stress at all.
  5. I ended up buying a Panasonic Lumix DC-FX50. Has all the features you use on a DSLR except for the lenses. I LOVE it. Still learning how to use it other than on auto, but I am getting there!
  6. Wash the bedding in HOT water, cold water wont kill them. Fleas cannot survive a trip through the vacuum either. As everyone else said the Advocate will take a bit of time to work, but if you are really worried, buy some Capstar, they kill fleas within 20 minutes, and lasts for 24 hours.
  7. I am not sure, but I cannot tell you what a hookworm looks like. I've only ever seen tapeworms come out of the dog before worming.
  8. My dominant bitches mark, and lift their legs to do so. Not sure how you can stop it, sorry!
  9. Depends who you ask. It is recommended you worm them every 3 months, and not all worms will show up in the dogs poo.......so you would have to get a sample checked at the vets to be sure.
  10. I do all the except the tepid water thing - if I used coolish water this time of year the dogs would be up and out of the bath in 3 seconds flat. But I also use the hydrobath and so there are no fingers involved LOL
  11. OH Amstaffs are like that. At the moment he is still working with the young boy to get him to walk nicely on the lead, so he takes him alone. Our bitch goes ape, cries and whines and whinges and sooks, and I am home with her! But he walks them of an afternoon, so I try to ignore her carry on for fear of reinforcing it! But I can sympathise with you totally!
  12. Keeshonds are chronic paddlers and sometimes it gets so bad I resort to dripper bottles! Try raising the bowl so its at her mouth level, too high to paddle in comfortably. But make sure its very stable, dont want her knocking it off! Also try filling the bowl (not sure how big it is) with bricks or large clean rocks so that she can still drink, but there is no depth to the water. Or if you are home, just put the water down for a few minutes at a time. Let her drink, then remove it. Or get a lot of towels to lay down on the floor around the bowl! LOL
  13. None of our dogs have coats, unless the Lhasa's are due for a clip, then I will put a coat on them, because they have to endure a sudden change. But the Amstaffs never get coats and the Kees never need them, they grow their own!
  14. First thing I would do is get Kyzer seen to by a good chiro or muscle manipulator. Sounds to me like his back is out. If that does not help then a full work up at the vets.
  15. Hmm ok interesting. What do you feed? It might be cheaper for you to get those canines removed rather than repositioned. Just a thought. Would be interested to hear what the orthodontist says! Good luck!
  16. I just cannot fathom what sort of bad bite this dog would have that he would NEED braces. Dogs with reverse scissor bites can eat just was well as dogs with normal scissor bites can. Undershot bites can eat and survive fine, as can overshot. A few misaligned teeth do not affect a pet dogs ability to lead a normal life, so why would someone suggest a PET dog have orthodontic work? If it was for the show ring, where a misaligned tooth would affect the dogs ability, then maybe, but a pet? I just cannot think of anything that would need this sort of work done. It's not like the dog is going to be catching and killing his own dinner, is it?
  17. I use a shower hose - you know the ones you use in the shower for a hand held thingy.....unscrew the laundry tap and screw the hose on, and pop it out the window. ETA - sorry its not more technical lol
  18. If he is a pet only then WHY would he need braces??? What is wrong with his bite that would mean he NEEDS braces?
  19. I would not be without my hydrobath. You could always hire it out to friends and relo's on a DIY basis too. They can come use your bath for $20 or something like that. I will never wash another dog in the bath again. The hydrobath distributes the shampoo beautifully and even hard to wet down coats are a breeze. Mine is old and falling to bits, so the two tanks dont work properly, so I use it like a single tank, which means rinsing via hose or buckets. We are saving up for a new one! They are not cheap :D
  20. Just too costly with multiple dogs, so I have never considered it. If there was a generic cover, which didnt worry which dog I used it on, then I might, but they dont exist as far as I am aware.
  21. I worm 10 days before due date.......which often ends up closer to whelping but thats what we aim for.
  22. I found a bit of sunshine useful for filling in noses here. My Amstaff boy was a bit slow to fill in, but he is good now, and he is 9 months old next week.
  23. Yes the CUZ is Fantastic!! I bought one for my Amstaff boy, who eats squeeky toys in about 5 minutes. He has had his Cuz for over 2 weeks and its not showing ANY signs of destruction. I got a Good Cuz, but you can get Bad Cuz too, they are very cute balls with legs LOL There was another thread about this somewhere but I cant find it!
  24. I have a purpose made grooming box (wooden) but its too heavy, so I have gone back to a Toolbox from Bunnings ;) At home, I have one of those three draw plastic numbers, all the at home stuff stays in there.
