  1. Some dogs just like to chew! There could be other issues that make her slow to eat. I would get her mouth checked out at the vets, she might have an issue you are unaware of.
  2. There is a fairly similar vain article on the net somewhere but from a cattle breeders perspective. I have no idea if it is true or not, but it is very scary. My only dealings with the RSPCA was years ago when I neighbour made a complaint that our dogs were in tiny pens. But it was a deceptive angle and the inspector who came out laughed and said her dogs were in a smaller area. I think though, that the tide IS turning, especially with this debarking thing going on in Victoria, and seeming to be starting up here in NSW. It is a BIG worry, and I think we have to try very hard to stay squeaky clean.
  3. I got one too. The theory of the emails being on RSPCA databases is flawed - the email I provide on microchips is not the same one I was emailed on with this bit of hysteria.
  4. You are welcome to come visit my herd any time Lynlovesdogs. They are FAR from aloof . Or if we do organise a meet I can go to, then I will bring a couple out for the day. I think Kees are the best breed, but I am biased, but no more than anyone else who is trying to convince you that Sammies or Lappies are the way to go!
  5. A friend with British Bulldogs feeds this stuff, she swears by it.
  6. I love World 4 Pets at Vineyard. I use Petbarn at Castle Hill because its my closest one. The first time my son met Ned, he screamed the place down. He doesnt like dogs being in his personal space, and Ned was right up there in his face. He was terrified of him!
  7. Not something I would undertake lightly. We rent from family so we manage. If this ever dries up we will be in serious trouble. We tried getting rentals a long while back, but with 8 or 9 dogs at any one time, no one wants to know you!
  8. He would be better off does not equal "I am going to". Sorry. I dont see that at all.
  9. I dont think Corvus would go anywhere without her dogs, she was referring to her rabbit & hare. And I am sure she did not mean she would just release the hare into the wild. She is much more intelligent than that. I had a dog I bred returned to me with the "having a baby" excuse. I rehomed him to a lovely family where he spent the next 15 years of his life raising their daughter, who was born after they got him. I have also had a young puppy returned after a week, because the daughter was "allergic". I think daughter might have been allergic to the gallons of flea powder that was on this puppy!
  10. Amstaffs should NOT be bigger, but often they are. Seems most breeders think bigger is better. Does not say that in the standard though!
  11. Ive used Eagle Pack Holistic, Artemis Maximal, Artemis Adult Fresh Mix, and have finally settled my boy on Nutro Lamb & Rice. Its the first food he has been able to eat and not have chronic diarrhea. I've come to the conclusion he is allergic to wheat AND chicken. He also LOVES it, unlike the others. He likes to try and steal the Coprice that the rest of the gang here are on, but he isnt allowed to have that, it goes straight through him.
  12. We have a few worm farms for the dog poo. They sure do work, but we have more dogs than our worms can handle at the moment. You can normally find more on www.thewormman.com but the site appears to be down for some reason, but google worm farm dogs and you should get some info on how to set them up.
  13. For years it was just our neighbours Dobe who howled at sirens. Then she passed and it was quiet here for a bit. Then our young Amstaff boy started. He is trying to teach the Keeshonds & Lhasa's but they just dont have the right stuff - they have this funny little yip yip yip thing going. So it goes like this "Yip yip yip, HOWWWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL, siren". And we are on a main road, and even at 3am when there are no cars on the roads, the local siren users think its good fun to tear down the main drag with the sirens blarring. Who they are trying to move I have no idea. So we might have howling here 4 to 5 times every day. Fun!
  14. I got a large version of this http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/driza-bone...ool-lined-coat/ for my Amstaff. What a bargain! At Petbarn they are $90.00!!!!!!
  15. I've never had a dog get sick from eating a poisoned rodent....and they have managed to snaffle a few before I could get to them. My vet nurse sister assured me at the time that once it is digested the poison wont hurt the dogs. So either she was wrong, or telling me porkies, or not? I dont know. The roof residents tend to live and die up there. The house ones, well the just disappear.
  16. We have to put baits in the roof cavity twice a year here. Never had a problem with that. I will also throw a bait cube behind or under the fridge in the kitchen.
  17. I've owned entire dogs & bitches for the last 18 years. I have never had testicular cancer in a dog, never had mammary cancer in a bitch, and only had one case of pyometra in a bitch (who had never had a litter). My dogs are entire from the day they are born to the day they die. My eldest here at the moment is a 14 year old dog, and a 13 year old bitch. I believe that the average pet should be desexed. I have no opinion on age, but it should be done whenever is the best for that dogs owner. Some people cannot handle a bitch in season, in which case I totally agree that they should have her done before her first season. I dont think that desexing a dog early makes up for poor training. If you dont put any work into a dog, it will still turn out feral, testicles or not.
  18. I prefer the one with heat I can turn off. On very cold and/or damp days, you need a bit of heat to help the drying process along. But I like to be able to turn it off once it has heated up. My none heated dryer still warms up, but it takes quite a while before its got that warmth to it.
  19. I am in Castle Hill and can offer our Amstaff up for a donation if it is still needed. So long as they dont shave his hair off, he has a show on the weekend
  20. Up until recently I was of the belief that we could debark provided we gave the vets a stat dec saying that this was an alternative to euthanasia. In my eyes, it has just been this year 2010 that the law has changed. However I know of vets still doing debarkings. How can someone who had their dogs debarked 4 years ago be in trouble for it now? Just get them to do a stat dec saying they provided a stat dec at the time of the procedure, and that it was the last resort. This dog ownership thing is becoming a big giant joke.
  21. Looks pure bred Amstaff to me. You can get tri-colour in the breed.
