I am sure their legs can go to sleep like ours. I would see if he repeats the behaviour before you panic.

I had one of my dogs get KC before where it must have been from a dog walking past the house. As none of the dogs had gone anywhere at the time.

Of All The Cheaper Dry Dogfoods Which Is The Best?
Rysup replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I swap back and forth between Coprice (Family - mine dont like the Working Dog ones) and Great Barko. I prefer Great Barko to Uncle Albers, no real reason LOL I find the dogs have a slight preference for the Barko, but they generally eat anything with gusto the first few days. I have one allergy dog who can only have Nutro Lamb & Rice, and thats not a cheap one! -
Thanks Bindii. It still hurts. After 20 years of having show dogs, this was my first PTS. I really hope its my last.

Sorry gremlins

I had to have one of my furbabies PTS last Wednesday. Have not gotten anything from the vet as yet It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life.

I try and match lead to outfit, or just colours I like. From a judging perspective - I cannot recall one single lead from my judging last weekend. I am so focused on the dog, I dont see the lead or the handler.

Its a hard choice Lyn! Although I like the look of the Lappie, for me, being a show person, they have a long way to come before I'd want one. And they are probably a bit too active for me. The Kees fit me well. Hey guess what, Brie is coming into season! -
Yesterday I had to make the decision we all dread, and I gave Lexie her wings. She had been unwell for about 2 weeks, and just went downhill so fast. Lexie, I still remember going to pick you up as a tiny black ball of fluff just 10 years ago. It's not fair that you were taken from me first, you were the 2nd Lhasa I bought, and such a lovely little girl. You did so well under specialist judges. You helped me raise my son who simply adored you. I have not told him you are gone yet. RIP lovely lady, you are not in pain anymore, and I am glad I could be with you at the very end.

I have had an accidental litter, and an accidental mating. The mating I heard happen, and took care of, as the bitch was too young. But the litter (of 1) was a TOTAL surprise. Did not know until the morning the puppy was on the bed waiting for me. In that case the bitch was too old to be having a litter, and she didnt want the little mite, so my mum hand raised her and she lives with my uncle. But of course the two bitches I WANT to mate, wont fall. Sometimes you can just have shitty luck

I use a spare room, which is directly off the lounge room, with a baby gate across the door, and another door that goes out to the garage (which is the kennels). Tiled floor. Whelping box home made, marine ply and aluminium. Heat lamp and heating pads. I generally just put a bit of newspaper on the tiles once they start escaping the box, and I find that they become very sure footed on the tiles. That litter is now 2 1/2 and are extremely sure footed on tiles. The dogs who were raised on carpet or other rough surfaces, slip and slide when they come in on the tiles. A few photos

Mine are kenneled in the garage of a night. I have 4 runs, and they are either single or paired up. The Lhasa's get their own crate each.

Yes you can judge a dog you bred (NSW). You cannot have owned it for a certain period of time, which varies from state to state. BUT most people would not put their breeder in a position such as that. I would expect my show puppy buyers to have better morals than to show under me.

The extension can "explain" it away all you like, its STILL in the standard. Standards CAN be changed. If you want to allow blues, change the standard.
-
The Amstaff standard clearly states that dogs must have black pigment. Blue's do not have black pigment, no matter which way you try to argue it. If they breed a blue with black pigment, then good on them!
-
Amstaffs just seem to attract owners for the wrong sorts of reasons, and then they decide they might like to try showing, and then breeding and suddenly the show ring is full of these giant dogs. I have watched it happen. Now a correct "to the standard" sized Amstaff looks like a dwarf in comparison. It is a big worry. The breed should not have a massive stafford-like head, it should not be 24 inches at the shoulder, it should not be blue. I have had a long association with the breed, and have owned them for a quite a few years now, and am very close friends with a lovely, ethical breeder. But still, I cannot be convinced to get into breeding, because the market is flooded with "registered" pets, and I do not want to be seen to be adding to this population explosion. I will show my current boy to his title and then that will be it for me. At least until my friend talks me into showing another one for her

I have a lot of bitches that get along fine, and some who dont. I really think its an individual thing. And you just wont know until you try it.
-
I have not read all the replies. When I pick a puppy at 8 or 9 weeks, I then close my eyes, and do not look again until the dog is 18 months old. Many, many, many nice dogs go "off" somewhere in the middle, and its just not fair on yourself or the dog to pick them apart until they have finished growing. I would never throw out a 6 month old puppy. Leave them at home to grow up some, sure, but time can often bring things right. If they get to 18 months old and still no signs of improvement, then yes I would find the dog a pet home and try again.
-
Totally agree with you. I am very worried that the breed is doomed.

Well looks like its a date! LOL With the date TBA. ;) -
Well the one I am thinking of is Vineyard Vet Hospital. I find them quite accommodating. There is definitely a ramp (I just checked their website, there is a photo at the bottom http://www.vineyardvet.com.au/home/index.cfm ). They let you take as long as you need in your consult. And I am pretty sure they take pet insurance, they have Pro Sure on their website. Is that too far out? I forget when people say west it doesnt always extend this far out! LOL

Does one smallish step count as wheelchair access? I know they have a ramp up from the path to the verandah, but I think there is a small step over the threshold....Hmm you have me thinking now.

Debarking saves lives and sanity. People who condemn it simply cannot appreciate the misery a barking dog can cause.
