if you start favouring one dog as the dominant one and you are wrong then you can cause problems as the rightly dominant dog tries to assert his authority and will feel he needs to become more forceful...i think you should treat the dogs as equal and let them sort pecking order out amongst themselves. (i've heard that that the dominant dog position can alter between dogs throughout each day)

I don't know about the golf kit version, but the Multipro I got from Mitre 10 for $114 with an extra little case with additional bits. However you can get a Multipro for just under $100 without the extra bits and just add to it yourself. The thing I like about the Multipro is that you can use it for just about anything you can think of - drilling, sanding, polishing, cutting, grinding - they are so much fun to use too. Probably a bit more expensive than the other models you can buy, but I think it is worth every cent - that's if you are going to use it for more than just trimming a dog's nails. ETA: it also comes with a 5 year warranty.

Yea thanks Badbyz, I have come across that site before which is why I asked this question (it is a great site, isn't it!!!) I mainly want to know if anyone has been able to use 10000rpm on their dogs nails without discomfort. Although she suggests a speed slightly slower I wasn't sure whether it is enough to make that much difference. And yeah i might give it a try as you suggest, might just try it on some wood and see how quickly it heats the wood up to give me a bit of an idea how long i can hold it there for... wish me luck!!!

I absolutely love my dremel and originally bought it for my jewellery making...but last night i had a brain wave while i was trying to clip Ellie's nails....maybe i could find yet another use for my mighty dremel.... Yes this is what i was worried about, was it because it spun too fast, creating too much heat? Or because it wasn't good quality? I wasn't too sure which sandpaper to use on her claws, so thanks for that Poodle wrangler. lol....i wont have that problem...i am a chronic nail biter, so they are well and truly out of the way. I have to say tho, I can understand his fascination...I am ADDICTED to my dremel!!

Hi, I recently got myself a wonderful Dremel Multipro and I thought i might try it on Ellie's nails as clippers just don't seem to do the job very well (or maybe i just don't know how to use them!!) I've read up on the process and I have also read thru some of the previous threads on this topic, so I am all set to go except for one small (okay, BIG) concern... I have the Dremel Multipro 395VW which has variable speeds. On the box it says the minimum speed it does is 10,000rpm. Before I attempt to butcher my dog, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether they think this speed would get her nail too hot, causing her pain? lol i remember those teething days, god those little teeth can HURT . I tried everything with my gril..the whole swapping for a chew toy, clamping the mouth shut, yelping...EVERYTHING, lol but the best remedy i found is patience...unfortunately i just had to wait for her to grow up..but gosh my fingers suffered in the meantime lol

i will never fly my dog again. she has been fully traumitised by it all in the past and i dont think she will ever get over it. i dont know what happened to her but when she came off at the other end she was a wreck. :laugh:

hey i know nothing about showing, but have a question, it might sound naive so please bear with me... I thought showing a dog was done with the hope of breeding from them in the future, amoung other reasons? If that is the case, why would you be bothering continuing to show a dog who does not seem to have very solid nerves? Sorry my question might be way off the mark, as i said i know nothing about showing or about your dogs nerves. But cant this trait be inherited by her pups if she has them? Or is it only appearance that matters to be good breeding stock?

oh thanks everyone. it means a lot. Steve is being way too modest in my opinion. The thing is, if i didn't have absolute trust and faith in what he was saying, there is no way i would have followed thru. Ellie and I were never set up to fail as steve was always very honest and forward with what she could and could not cope with. In the beginning, there were times when i didn't follow the program 100% or i had changed a bit here and a bit there...i quickly learned not to do this...i also quickly learned that the difference between success and failure is often in the small details. When i realised that, Ellie progressed much faster. The relationship between Ellie and I has changed dramatically. I was only thinking to myself last night that i finally have the dog i always wanted. She is obedient, she is affectionate and she is sociable. I was laying down with her last night and she chose to come and lay beside me for a cuddle. For many, this might not seem like much, but not that long ago if i even sat down near her, she would get up and move straight away. There is no way i could have cuddled her before. This is the change that i love the most....she finally trusts me!! here is a photo at steve's house...i'm sure you can see how happy i am lol

Oh and JayGee, i have read Jeddah's story on K9's website (about 10 times lol) and it is a wonderful story.

thanks for the comments guys, i really appreciate it!! i am still stoked from saturday. i am amazed at how far she has come and how quickly it has happened. she really is making me very proud It was not that long ago when i wouldn't let ellie out of the yard for fear of her acting aggressively. Now she can come almost anywhere with me and is a positive addition to the family. I hate to think what her quality of life would've been like if we hadn't met steve. We still have work to do, but i would say we are almost there. And yes, i dont think that anyone will be surprised to hear that Kane was a perfect gentleman...although, i think he might be just a little 'over' meeting random dogs lol.

When i took my shepherd to see steve, she was pretty out of control. she had (in my opinion) severe people and dog aggression...I went to see steve as i was at my wits end...i was even contemplating having my girl PTS because i thought she was unfixable. I was worried she would hurt a person or get into a severe dog fight one day soon. Luckily before it was too late for Ellie and I, we went to see steve. It is the best money i have ever spent, and the best money i continue to spend. I can remember one of the questions steve asked me on my first visit..."what are you willing to do?" - my reply..."anything i have to do!!" And i have to tell you, it did not get fixed over night. It has been 6 months since i first visited steve. Slowly but surely my dog has began to trust me and we now have a strong relationship which continues to get better each day. I had a lesson with steve today, and i just wanted to share with you a moment that i will remember for a long time.....here is Ellie, the dog aggressive german shepherd.... I just wanted to say thank you so much steve, words can not say how much your help has meant to me. edited to update pic file link

i use one of those clamshell pool things for my girl. I had the same problem as you, but this has worked a treat, and she can stand in it to cool off on hot days. It is too heavy and flat to be tipped over.

Lab and Poodle, why on earth would he want to do free research for you? If i remember correctly, it was not very long ago that you were criticizing K9's methods and calling them: Yet now you criticize other posters for making personal attacks? Yet when asked if you were interested in attending a training workshop, your response was this: Doesn't sound like you are really very interested in incorporating other methods into your training, or even learning about them before judging. Just sounds like a lot of contradicting statements to me.

yep i would go to k9 too...if you love your doggies (which you must!) then got to k9, he gives the best value for money and his information is priceless...might be a little drive for you, but i travel all the way from newcastle to see him and imo it is worth every second of travel. he never makes you feel stupid or evil lol but most of all, his methods work!!

why on earth didnt you erect a fence in the first place?? i'm sorry but i think it is pretty obvious what you should do. why get a dog..let alone two, if you didnt have a secure fence in the first place? letting a dog wander is simply irresponsible.
