Hi, I'm about to order the 50mm lens for a Nikon D600, just to double check before I order one online, does the 'd' mean it will auto focus on this camera? Or do I need to go with a 'g' lens ? I've just moved up to a full frame and the weight of the 70-200 mm is killing me! So gonna get me a nice little prime lens :D

Ink fx printing is good.

New cameras and new lenses are the Best!!!! Enjoy your new toy. Always a fan of your dog pictures

Love them, this lens really rocks on a cropped sensor!
-
Amazing photos! I think I'm nearly sold on this lens too!

Ok I'm going to join in mid way~ Better late than never! I'm no pro, have a very basic dslr but enjoy photography and the joy it brings others. You guys inspire me a lot to keep plugging along, I will try and get something out every week! So here is 2 to get me started :)

On photos that have been, well shot not real well!!! I usually have a play around with the sliders. But it does depend on the image and what look your after. I find if I'm going to play with WB I custom my own to how I remember it looking. Really depends on how you want your photo to finish up looking. I run most photos through PS and do my usual tweaks- humans, remove red from faces etc.... dogs, clone out eye gunk, rego tags (for example) etc... The more you take photos and process them through RAW the more you will learn what works in camera which eventually will cut down processing time. Hope that makes sense. Thats how I see it anyways :)

I love these, and they look SOOC to me. The 1st pic would look great framed!
-
great 1st shots, I just bought my 1st sigma lens and I must say I'm impressed. I never use my kit lens anymore. My 1st prime was a 35mm 1.8 and it barely leaves my camera unless I'm using my 70-200 2.8 siggie. Once you get used to RAW you won't think twice when using it and if you nail it in camera there isn't really much to do in RAW anyways. Keep the pics coming

Umm..... Awesome 1st shots, the look great on my computer screen. I went and had a play with this lens at my local camera shop and then looked at prices on the net, where to buy from... but the sigma is the brand I was thinking and I'm sold now after seeing what it can do!

I like looking at everyone's photos but don't get on here all that often anymore, but hey I'm more of a stalker than anything! I do really wish I'd started the photo challenge this year (and every other year!) You guys are passionate about your photography and your dogs and thats what matters to me. Huga I love your 'dirty' b&w to me it's your own style.

Gapvic And Anyone Else Heres A Few Of My Creations!

Hi Kritta, These are great shots! I am having a similar dilemma atm with wanting somehting a bit more wider than my Canon 50mm 1.8. Not sure if should get wider prime or a 2.8 24-70 zoom which would give me wide but ability to get more distance from subject if needed. Your examples are the type of shots that I am wanting to achieve Excuse my ignorance but is this 35mm 1.4 by Canon? Greg Thanks everyone, Slowly learning how to ge tthe most out of my prime! It's been alot of practice and experiment but I've just kept chipping away and slowly getting a good idea for what I need to do :) Hi Greg It's a Nikon 35mm 1.8 just a cheapy lens! but IMO great value for what I have been using it for. My camera body is just a D3100. So nothing special! I was thinking my next lens could be a 24-70 or then I was wondering if I should go the next one up for more zoom, haha decisions..... decisions...... $ could be the deciding factor, unless there is something a little cheaper out there that may do something simular? -

And a few more! -
Hi everyone, I can't even remember the last time I posted a photo, would have been quite a few years ago!! After some great advise from some of you and trying out the 35 and the 50mm lenses I bought the 35 and haven't looked back! thinking about buying a nice zoom to go with it! but that's a little way away at the mo! Hope these work! and the quality hasn't dropped to much....

Wow the photos are so sharp, looking at adding another lens but was dreaming about a 70-200 2.8! dreaming!! but maybe I should keep my eye open for a 2nd hand 70-300 like yours and keep on saving for the dream lens!
-
I will I'll just read up on how to post a pic! It's been years since I've put one up!!! So happy with this lens, kicks but over my kit lens!!
-
Just an update! I ended up with the 35mm 1.8 and love it! I went and tried both the 50 and the 35 but was liking how the 35 gave me more room indoors. Thinking I will get a 50 in the near future though :) Looking at zooms now !!!!!
-
Beautiful photos Gapvic. Is the 70-300mm you used a f/4.5-5?
-
Oh geez Huga and Kuma, I thought I was all decided on the 1.4 but.....I've been reading peoples reviews and looking at photos taken with the 50mm 1.8 and I must say I'm swaying towards the 1.8 again! Thinking if I go the 1.8 then I can buy myself a spare battery and another memory card with the money I save myself! Thanks for the link and advise, I can't believe how much cheaper they are on that site compared with local prices I have been given. Once again Cheers for the help :)
-
Thanks Huga, Auto focus is a must for me! Thinking I will save some more coin and get the 1.4 anyways that way I won't need to upgrade in the future. Cheers everyone for your help :) I don't often post but I love your photos they inspire me to keep on plugging away at my own photos!
-
Sorry yes I have a Nikon camera 3100. Cheers Elsie and Hudson will check it out and get back to you if I decide to go the 1.8 thinking maybe I should go 1.4 though..... Arrrr decisions.....decisions.... Thanks for the comments guys :)
-
Total beginner here! I know a few of you shoot with the 50mm lens. I guess my question is, would this be ok or is it a cheap and nasty one. What does the D mean behind the f/stop, I've noticed other (more expensive lenses have a different letter behind them. This particular lens I'm looking at is $135- on amazon. I just want to get away from my kit lens and do some nice portrait photos. Will this be a good entry lens or should I give it a miss and keep trying to save my pennies!

Glad your pup is ok F11.

This is an all to common thing walking your dog along the streets. Last dog that latched onto my pup got a good kick in the guts that sent it flying. I was really annoyed that it had happened.... I growled at the dog as I neared it told it to get home and it took of around me and sunk it's teeth into the flank of my pup, I saw red.... Thats my rant. Grrrrrrr.......
