Thank you We travel and camp on private properties and in state forests that allow dogs we have been out to the Flinders Ranges all through Tasmania / Victoria/ Queensland and South Australia with my families two other dogs and there was plenty of dog friendly accommodations and other families with furry friends staying there too. We aren't reckless and follow all the rules.

You might have attended on General Specials (Finals) day where at least one of each breed entered will be present. This year that is Monday 21 April. But depending on time of day and how the pavilion is set up, people may not have time to talk to you.
-
Thankyou everyone for your help its much appreciated. Ive decided not to attend. The whole point of me wanting to go was to meet the kbd in person and bonus if they had mals and other spitz on the same day like the old days when each day they had the room with different breeds to view and the breeders would be there happy to answer any questions. I wonder why they stopped doing that daily and only have one day now.

Tips for Managing My Dog's Separation Anxiety
Dogsfevr replied to michaelcarlos's topic in General Dog Discussion
Whilst im not a go onto meds pusher i do believe at times doing a course for a transition plan works so much more successful than letting the problem fester more & more to the point its harder to retrain & meds then often end up being used . I would sooner be proactive 6 months earlier than 6 months later -
It would actually be easier if you listed breeds of interest . You havent said indoor dog /otdoor dog,grooming/no grooming ,what kind of terrain walks, what kind of dog sports interest you .How many km of walkiing would be normal
-
Why do you say this? It’s illegal in national parks but not in state forests
-
You can't/shouldn't do wilderness activities with dogs.

I am sorry you have been through this experience. But I am even more sorry Cosmo has because he is the one who doesn't understand what has happened. While it is true that dogs are legally 'property' that we can do with what we want, their needs are much more complex than any other property we own. You have now had the experience of owning and losing a pet. It hurts but he has been gone for weeks now and to be honest what has truly changed at your house since he has been gone besides your feelings? You can't hedge all your bets on your mother in law that her simply being there will fix any problems he had. You surrendered him for a reason that still exists. I feel that is something you just have to accept now. If you choose to get a pet again then you now have more knowledge to choose the right breed for your home or to have other strategies in place to give it the attention and care it needs if you are all living busy lives (dog walkers and doggy day care also exists for this reason). Don't choose a dog based on looks and cuteness. It has to fit in with your expectations and lifestyle or you will have Cosmo 2.0. In relation to the rescue - rescues deal with surrenders day in and day out for a myriad of reasons. Some are very sad and some are total BS. I only know of one person who surrendered out of desperation one day (her dog had difficult behaviours) and she changed her mind the next day. After much discussion and consideration her dog was returned and remained with her into old age. She actually became my friend and once she had the support for the breed she needed, her commitment to her doggo was strong. It was a unique and genuine situation at the time. But you are relying on yet another person coming into your house to 'fix things'. You and your family are not planning to do anything differently for a dog you supposedly love. Can you see how that doesn't look like a solution for Cosmo? The rescue cares only about him at this point because he has already been let down by his owners and they are trying to pick up the pieces. A hard lesson learned by you of course but I feel you need to let him get on with his life now. He's been through enough change. If you purchase or adopt in the future please do so with more consideration of how that specific dog blends with your household so that all your collective needs will be met. Plenty of working people have pets remember - it's what you do to meet their needs when noone is home that is as important as the love you shower upon them when you are all together. Please take some time to accept how you got into this situation and learn from it. Cosmo is on his own new journey now.

Hello Friends I was a member of this forum for many years however it was many years ago and misplaced my details so have created a new account. I always considered this site the best source of information and opinion in relation to our furry little friends. Anyway I don't want to be too long winded and I'll try to wrap this up as neatly as I can. Our dear Kara passed away last July after 16 wonderful years (a terrier blend who came to us after a failed first home) and we are now looking to invite a new family member into our home. A little bit about us.. We own our own home, have 6ft fences down two sides and I think 5.5 across the back.. (it's a a little shorter) all colour bond and quite large for a suburban yard. We have a four year old cat Nixon who is a little darling but may need some acclimation after almost a year without a dog in the house. My partner and I can offer a stable forever home and we have a 17 year old son who has good animal sense. We aren't particularly in any hurry to get a new furry friend and are more interested in making the right choice and the right connection for a successful future. We road trip extensively cross country at least once a year with my mums rotti/lab blend and my uncles bull arab and spend a weekend most months 4x4, hiking, and doing general wilderness activities, we understand the commitment particularly with a young dog of the need for regular exercise and are prepared for that. Our family has always considered our dogs as integral family members and any new addition will be treated as such. I personally am also interested in the potential for dog sports and would be interested to listen to any advice for complete newcomers. We do work full time however because of the cross over in family activity times the maximum amount of time our dog would be unattended would be 6 hours 4 days per week however initially or potentially long term I could come home during the middle of those days albeit briefly to attend as I work very close to where I live. Size isn't important however something that is robust enough to hike with my family dogs would be crucial. I welcome any opinions about breed suggestions.

Tips for Managing My Dog's Separation Anxiety

Is your reaction contributing? Are you stressed, trying to console her before leaving and comforting her when you return? Is she training you to respond to her requests for attention? Does she get whatever she wants without having to earn it by responding to a command? The more information you can give the rescue and the vet the better they can advise you. -

If she's from a rescue, please reach out to them. It'll also be helpful if she has a bit of history they can fill you in on. For example - if she was in foster care with other dogs and quite happy, that would be good to know. -

Just checked again, KBD judged Sunday 20 April. Different judge for morning and afternoon judging. No time slots (unless it has changed), just a start time. Morning judging "not before 8:30 am" and "judging times on the glass doors [of] the administration office".
-
There is one male KBD entry in the Non-Sporting Group. It is not one of the two in the breed pages here. You would have to phone the RAS dog section and ask the day it is judged. That group classification is judged in the morning, the FCI (=international) breeds are judged in the afternoon of the same day. It may have a different group classification under that system. [Edit: Group 5 Spitz and Primitive Breeds] Which breeds attend the breed stall day depends on clubs and volunteers deciding to attend. It is not compulsory.

Rescue groups are usually volunteers, giving up their time to rehome pets. Sounds like they put a lot of work into this for you to find a home for Cosmo. You had him for 13 months, until you decided you didn't want him any more. Why didn't you get him desexed in that time? I am sure he is desexed by now as that would have been part of the adoption process. Pets are not objects to be handed around to the next person. I suggest you should have put a lot more thought into whether you wanted to rehome him before asking for a rescue group to assist you. The new family doesn't need you harrassing them about you wanting their pet. I am sure this didn't happen suddenly so that you had no time to think about it. Better for you if you move on. You rehomed him thinking you were doing the right thing by him. You did. I am sure Cosmo is now perfectly happy with his new family who I am sure loves him very much. Hopefully they've groomed him so that he can see, looks like he badly needs a groom in some of those photos of him! I am sorry, but I don't buy the "he was a cherished member of our family" and we now miss him. You should have thought about that while you had the cherished member of your family with you.

Have you asked the rescue you got her from? Was she fostered in a home? Speak to your vet and ask about meds that can help her settle. -
What group are the kbd in? Every breed is named initially but does not mean they have an entry. If they are not in the catalogue there isn't an entry.
-
Do they not do the thing anymore where each day its different dog breeds in the room? On the 'meet the breed day' do you know what breeds are there? Thankyou @Mairead for letting me know about the events page. Thankyou @Boroniafor the link i can see one day has the kbd but dosnt say the date

Tips for Managing My Dog's Separation Anxiety
michaelcarlos posted a topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi everyone, I’m reaching out for some advice on managing my dog’s separation anxiety. I recently adopted a 2-year-old rescue, and while she’s settled in well at home, I’ve noticed she gets extremely anxious whenever I leave the house, even if it’s just for a short period. She starts barking, howling, and sometimes even chews on furniture. I’ve tried a few things, like leaving her with puzzle toys and ensuring she’s exercised before I leave, but I’m not seeing much improvement. I’m concerned about the stress she’s experiencing, and I really want to make sure I’m doing the right things to help her feel more comfortable when I’m not around. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? What methods or training techniques have worked for you in reducing separation anxiety? Any advice on how to create a more relaxing environment for her while I’m gone would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to hearing your experiences! Thanks in advance! -
When you decide you want the dog gone today they either go into kennels or too a foster where they will be assessed for home suitability thats just common sense . Desexing will be for the sale not the taking in . Im sorry but your supposed reason for rehome doesnt make any sense at all. If the dog was happy & brought you much joy & laugher then suddenly deciding being home alone for that time period was wrong to lets get rid off the dog doesnt marry up . Who did you speak too about these concerns before even thinking this was the right choice ??Its unfortunate even for the dog that alot more thought didnt go into it after all the dog didnt sign up for this either & at the end of the day the dog will be the one feeling the biggest confusion & i think im all your wording its all about the humans but very little about we screwed up bigtime & have let our dog down even more . You could have placed the dog in boarding kennels for a week & seen what life was like without the dog & made the serious choice You have legally surrendered your dog with concerns you couldnt provide it with a fulfilling life . Rescue orgs arent about offering second chances when people decide dont want it anymore they deal with all sorts of sob stories & crap as it is plus the dog . Reading there form i gather you paid the $150 surrender fee & the form was very clear about foster, kennels or can you keep it until a foster is available or work with them.
